I do like the parallel of how in both sets the big festivities where interrupted by werewolves and in the big moment Arlinn gets to swoop in and ruin Olivia's wedding in a similar way Olivia ruined the harvesttide ritual.

I overall liked this set better than the previous one. I think it's got better and/or more interesting cards. Overall nice artwork throughout it too.
I concur. This set was far, far superior to the last by a significant margin.
I really admire Serpentine Ambush. I can respond to my Whelming Wave or Slinn Voda to preserve an online Thassa for example. Or save it for combat tricks. Sea monsters are acquiring some slippery strategies lately
Love the art on Gift of Fangs - very Seb, but still in its own unique manner
Not sure why not everyone (except PWs) are German in appearance on Innistrad, unless like Toshiro Umezawa, there have been some PWs or extraplanar entities that have mated with the population, so perhaps that's why there is a Kamigawa-like individual in the art. Who knows, Night's Reach may very well have visited Innistrad, it seems like her kind of plane after all
Yes, I agree - this set is much more interesting than the last one (except for the werewolves, which continue to be boring). There are quite a few cards that I want for Commander, and Limited looks kind of fun, especially the WU Spirits/Auras and UB Zombies/Exploit archetypes.
As far as art goes, from the last batch I really like Desperate Farmer and Gift of Fangs. Dominik Mayer is definitely the artist of the set for me. It's always nice to see more unique and not-quite-straightforward styles.
I love the reference (?) on Hookhand Mariner (not quite sure if it's intentional, but it does make me think of "man door hand hook car door") and Nurturing Presence is a nice nod to upcoming Kamigawa.
Seb McKinnon seems to be taking a break from Magic. I don't recall seeing any illustrations from him in MID or VOW. I hope it's really just a break and he's not pulling a Rebecca Guay.

Every plane's population has the same structure as a big American coastal city in the late 2010s. It's company policy.
Aim for the Head artwork is hilarious. "I used to be a zombie like you, but then I took an arrow to the head."
And Bleed Dry is a great common. For just 1 more than Murder, this takes out anything indestructible, a far larger number of creatures than the very small number of gigantic ones (e.g., Autochthon Wurm, Charix, the Raging Isle) that Murder kills but this doesn't. It's pretty funny to think of a very thirsty young vampire sucking the likes of Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre or Blightsteel Colossus empty.

The set certainly does feature some high quality art this time around.
In addition to Gift of Fangs that I pointed out earlier, I really admire Bryan Sola myself and would love to see him paint the next Jace card, or Cosper Lowe, when he receives a card. A note on Cosper Lowe - that is my one disappointment with the set. Three visits to Innistrad and no card for the guard stalked by a vampire, in the vampire oriented set?
Another artist I noticed is Lars Grant-West, who contributed Bramble Wurm's art. Exceptional. I'd love to see them paint the next Kraken in that style.
Ekaterina Burmak's borderless Chandra is absolutely exquisite. She also has my blessing to paint the next borderless Jace that Bryan Sola is welcome to paint as well
Dave Kendall (Diver Skaab), E. M. Gist (Headless Rider), Justyna Gil (Kindly Ancestor), Caroline Gariba (Wedding Invitation) are all a few select examples of the detailed, traditional and Moeller-style art I really admire and have been missing
Sam Guay also has a unique style, reminiscent of, uh oh, Rebecca Guay. How appropriate
Set is brimming with high quality art, like Theros Beyond Death. Last set left me rather disappointed

Honestly it does feel like after Midnight Hunt someone turned to the Development team and told them do it again but properly this time.
Kind of does make me wish they would do this more often of two sets on the same plane back to back.
For a long time it was overdone and I certainly don't want them to do it all the time (2 new Zendikar's would have been too much) but I do think we are better seeing it here and there.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Cause Germany isn't totally white? And not like Innistrad didn't have non-white people on it, you had cards like Grizzy Outcasts and Snapcaster Mage in the original and we been told there are other continents than the main one we have been too.

I believe he was working on one of his films at this time, so he had to take a few sets off.

I mean, first and foremost, this is a fantasy world that isn't trying very hard to replicate any exact culture, region, or time period. So at a certain point, who cares about accuracy? But secondly, I need you to understand that black and asian people have lived in or visited Europe for centuries. Ethnic diversity might be greater in the modern day with globalisation, but it's been around for a long time. Let it be.

I like the creative for the Blood Servitor. Very cool when otherwise meh cards get memorable, unique creative treatments that make the whole set feel more alive.

I'd say an average between that and a populace of the respective culture they are appropriating. This is how Kaladesh can be more Indian than Innistrad, but still show off ethnic diversity as per policy.
I personally consider this an improvement for a lot of world building, because e. g. for the Innistrad example we have already received word of other regions of the plane featuring different cultures and different lycanthropes. It is not too unexpected for these cultures to mix in through trade etc. even if we never get to explore these far of shores in an expansion.
That's not too different from meeting people of a variety of ethnicities in actual Germany.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
This set's artwork has totally blown me away. It reeks of flavour and I think they did a good job at letting us leave Innistrad with a good impression for who knows long it will be until we come back to it.
I'm particularly drawn to the female depictions in it but overall I love the feel and look of it. Good job What-See.

To be honest it's not a point that really bothers me or that I want to harp on about. I just like to poke fun at it every once in a while.

Yes, but Earth does not exist as distinct planes. That's why I suggested PWs could be responsible for ethnic diversity in the multiverse. For example, Elspeth and Daxos are from different planes and are a couple. At least I hope they still are, I really love the idea of a PW visiting their plane-bound lover between trips, instead of strictly PWs being couples with each other.

Aren't most planes roughly Earth sized?Making a lack of ethnic diversity on a plane stranger than its presence? Aside the fact that Innistrad's had non-European looking people from the beginning, the natural development of humanity on a large plane ought to result in diversity.
Also, Ral and Tomik are a couple that just has one planeswalker.

TMK Dominaria is 2x the size of Earth. Ravnica is tiny (Moon-sized I think). Theros is flat and wide (kinda like my body). Lorwyn is rumoured to be a cylinder. Mirrodin New Phyrexia is small too if I'm not mistaken.
So they're comparable to earth but not in terms of size from what I've read anyway.
