I feel like most of the time you are only getting 50% of the value of this card but that is generally good enough and every now and then you'll get both abilities and that's just lovely.

True but there's a plus side if you lose the creature target it doesn't fizzle.

Oh for sure, and I have no problem with a thoughtseize for WB in standard or even just pitch this for WB to give a creature +1/+1 when you draw it late game as there's plenty of times that thoughtseize is a dead draw. Of course this will be a dead draw too sometimes, just less often.
