Our leaked Rune tutor Dwarf has finally entered the battlefield, pulled something that isn't a Rune of Flight... and they're all lackluster, as expected.
The fact they cantrip and work in auras, equipment and somewhat vehicles for WR is nifty but yeah otherwise lack luster. Hopefully we see more of this explored in returns/core sets/ect.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Ok, so Runed Crown is a guaranteed cantrip that grants your choice of lifelink, flying, deathtouch, haste, or trample and up to +2/+2. That's... actually kinda good? Like, each individual mode is weak, but that flexibility makes the card. Now, is it worth running 2+ runes?
Please, mill me. Mill my important cards. Mill my lands. Mill it all. Because I will still deal 20 damage before you can mill 45 cards most every time.
The runes aren't too bad actually so the dwarf could be tested
oh by the way I just accured to me, runes could appear in strixhaven as well since it’s based on hog warts potentionally there were runes in the stories
The fact that the Crown and the Champion can both fetch these from anywhere (library or graveyard) definitely goes a long way to making the runes better. The fact they can be attached to any permanent isn't terrible either. There are some non-creature permanents that can become creatures too which means they benefit from the ability.
Could also find a lot of room with making a rune for each evergreen mechanic and color shift ones while still staying at this lowest power for other cards to work with/abuse.

Each of these drawing a card goes a long way toward making them all decent, and the tutor dwarf kinda sweet. Not busted or anything, but could be playable.
Will be swapping RoM for ST in my Pioneer Bogles deck.

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
man... this is a stupid parasitic mechanic....
I mean, just 5 runes, and like 2 cards that mention them? why even bother, really?
we had less support for cartouche/trial in amonkhet and yet the red/white cartouche were actually fairly important in standard and hugely important in limited. To judge a card/cycle from "your format" - be it standard, edh or whatever is a very limited view. I doubt it will really find a spot - but the doom foretold decks are presently running lithoform blight for the cantrip aspect - and these could perform a similar function. I think these will actually do some heavy lifting honestly - we just have to see how the meta settles after the release.

Its only parasitic if they don't print more.
In an alternate reality, Flying was only used in the early sets of MTG but Wizards preferred Horsemanship. In a similar yet different alternate reality, Shadow instead of Flying. Just like how equipment (Mirrodin / Darksteel / Fifth Dawn) or vehicles (Kaladesh / Aether Revolt) could have been parasitic because they were only printed then and Wizards instead ran with the idea of Splice and Arcane.
curses are definitely more interesting than this trash, simply because enchant player is so rare. Also curses are tied thickly into Egyptian and witch lore
Could have been good if they pushed the sinergy with vehicle harder. But like this they are only limited trash

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I like that they basically cycle if you just want to target a land or whatever.
Yeah, people are underrating this aspect. A 2 mana "draw a card" that sticks around to be sacrificed to doom foretold or something else, and/or that activates your enchantment/constellation synergies is alone enough to maybe be worth it in some cases.
I expect that b/w doom foretold would at least want to experiment with running a runeforge champion and an on-color rune or two.
