One alternate-art, premium foil double-faced card from Ixalan;
Two premium foil basic lands;
Four rare or mythic rare cards from Standard-legal sets; and
Two premium foil cards from any Standard-legal set.
I am a sucker for alternate art and these look really cool. I am not sure they are necessarily "better" than the originals but the map aesthetic really makes these stand out to me. I will probably end up upgrading my current playset of Searches to these and I am glad I waited on getting Growing Rites of Itlimoc. Depending on how well Spitfire Bastion does in my EDH deck, I might have to change that one out for his new art as well.
Just another money vacuum. As much as I they are cool; I'd rather get a few copies on Puca Trade since the site has gotten much healthier as of late- I do not seeing there being too much trouble getting a couple (as least).
Very cool idea - I like this a lot. It's not enough to get me to buy another box since I have all the other cards I want from the set. But, if I hadn't bought a box yet, this would be awesome!
I think these are great, but with all the different products being released at once this season you have to wonder where people will put there money towards. Iconic masters is coming out along with from the vault, a new duel deck to hook new and retired players along with a new alternate game mode with explorers of Ixalan. Then there is the un-set parked in December. This is making the summer of sets look tame. Oh, and wave 2 of commander 2017.
I think they may be trying to ride the wave of dissent coming from the video game industry over using multi-player gambling systems along with quality control issues and drm.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

idk... duel decks are here already (?) massively available, at a lower price point. the un-set is going to be unappealing (especially as a box buy) for a huge amount of players as you can't use the cards aside from the basic lands outside of that environment, and while that'll be a selling point (the lands) its not going to drive as many people to buy boxes over singles probably. ftv is limited release thats generally gone the day its out. explorer's isn't going to be popular among players who don't already have an interest in it or want to gut the decks for cards i guess... so idk, this really gives incentive to buy a standard legal set, especially for those that might've been on the fence about doing so, or already planned to.
i really doubt it has anything to do with the video games market
edit: basically this pushes the sale of something that might see diminished sales during the holiday season, i don't think its going to take sales from any other products offered because those products are so niche

Existing duel decks don't matter: Only new stuff does. People forget about the old stuff in about a month and honestly unless a spotlight is shown on the product constantly it gets forgotten faster than yesterdays lunch given Wizards rapid fire release schedule these days. As a whole in the gaming industry there is more growth right now in hobby games and board games like Magic the Gathering and various kickstarter projects than in the AAA video game industry, which is getting worn out by companies like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision due to their own practices. They also are garnering a lot of ill will with closing perfectly good developer studios due to insane expectations and overuse of generic multiplayer components such as loot boxes instead of doing something more integrated like Monster Hunter.
Ixalan will continue to be bought up and opened regardless of what is going on, I'm just thinking that they are adding the promos in to try and encourage people to buy a box or two while they are picking up pre-ordered FTV Transforms, Explorers of Ixalan, Commander decks, etc.

I wonder if anybody will get all 10 and just try to form the map?
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
