I never expected the dinosaur set to also be the pirate set. "Lush jungles and blue oceans" + the name also hint at being the Mesoamerican set. That's a lot of birds with one stone.... I hope it resonates better than Amonkhet and Kaladesh
Does anyone else find it odd how they kept on emphasizing "future" during the Ixalan bit?? Do you think there could be time shifted cards? We are going back to Dominaria after Ixalan...
I'm getting a very Uncharted-esque feel to this idea with the whole looking for a legendary lost city and stuff. And I love Uncharted, so this could be very interesting.
So as a actual paleontologist...this set leaves me a little too excited. Now here is hoping for RG dinosaur legendary for EDH.
Also hopefully a "Road to El Dorado" esque will be announced. I had this idea about having 8 expedition-level lands that work like Maze's End that once they are all down they fetch "El Dorado" and you get the auto win. Sure pain in the neck not to fetch but fun. This or a gold themed curse that's like King Macar but makes zombies for gold. Pirates of the Caribbean memed.
At the very least it can be adventure set, like pre-Eldrazi Zendikar.
Though I don't really like the idea of mixing three worlds from short list into one - at the first glance it feels like mash up, you know, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and so. But it can be better than expected - less specific stereotype worlds, more original ones.

Pirates and jungle tribes are real world linked, so that should fit perfectly fine. Dinosaurs makes sense for a tropical adventure and exploration world. It's less of a mashup than it might seem and more of a world of different aspects.
I AM SO EXCITED! This was fantastic news - I've tried so many times to make a dinosaur deck and they're always terrible. That's okay though because I like the flavor but my friends always crack the joke that I don't have any dinosaurs in my dinosaur deck which kills it! This is fantastic news!
So they are mixing Pirates with Dinosaurs? Pirates mounting Dinosaurs???!! Best set ever
Sea-dweling Dinosaur used as a pirate ship. Please Wizards, Please!
Just to step back to this comment a bit: I love the idea of a ship made from an elasmosaur or similar, but "sea animal" and "dinosaur" are a contradiction in terms.

So... pirates, scientifically accurate Dinosaurs, explorers and legendary cities. So... it's basically Road to Eldorado: The Block? I dig it.

I'd be perfectly okay with something like 'saurian' instead, but either way a new type is probably warranted.
As a big fan of paleobiology, I am a big fan of realistic dinosaurs. I also like how they fit with a tropical mesoamerica based setting.

My sentiments exactly. The weirdo flavor elements all sort of work perfectly together.

Can't wait to see just what they do with it.
You did see a flyer; I'm guessing it's their version of the Archaeopteryx.

The girl (guy?) on the far right looks like she's got tiny T-Rex arms too.
