Magic the Gathering: F2P (Wizards of the Coast): The world’s most beloved collectible card game goes free-to-play! It will make its console debut first on Xbox one
Enter the world’s most popular strategy game with Magic Duels™ Origins, an all-new, free-to-play digital experience. Build powerful decks from an ever-growing collection of earnable cards, and sharpen your skills in a variety of unique solo and multiplayer modes. Begin your adventure here!
Does this mean DotP becomes a constantly upgrading game instead of a once-per-year-then-start-over thing? It would make sense for them to go after that Hearthstone style. I'd personally love it if it constantly had updates from new blocks. I'd even be happy if the updates were well beyond their main cash cow, MTGO. That said, maybe they'll finally make their non-MTGO products align with the rest of their marketing.
There have been some twitter updates about it, too:
I think they'll be transitioning to making it as accessible as it can possibly be, since MaRo recently said that a big part of Magic's recent success is due to DotP. Heck, I got back into the game after a 13 year hiatus because of DotP 2013.

Same here. It got me thinking about magic again, and how much I missed it.

No idea because my favorite decks keep getting banned or having the rules changed against them
Man I hate that they've abandoned Sony consoles. No DotP 2015 on PS and now this. DotP 2013 on PS3 is what brought me back to the game as well. Exclusivity seems at odds with the product's goal--reaching as many new players as possible.
So instead of buying an account, you pay $60 for a copy of the game...and then spend all your money on digital cards.
You know what "F2P" means right? And that you can download software (sometimes free, even!) on dem consoles?
I mean, I'm sure it's still a money trap, but...
I do, actually! But thanks for your concern, pedantic stranger on the internet. It means a lot to me! In fact, I think you might actually my best friend.
Just like MTGO, I imagine this is going to have an initial cost to entry, and a lot of real-world transactions, but no subscription fee.
If they have a feature where you can buy physical cards, especially precons, you can input the code and use it in the game, that would make me want to buy an Xbox One just for this game, that is, if they don't release this game on any other platforms.
I like Pokemon TCG Online's model. You buy physical cards and you get to use them online. Not MTGO though. Spent all your cash on your paper MTG collection? Spend it again on the online version. I don't mind if MTGO has this kind of model, but I do wish that this game is going to have a feature where Magic Origins packs have a code inside that you can give to someone else, or keep for yourself, that enables you to "buy" a virtual booster in the game for free. Same thing with precons, which allows you to "buy" that exact precon in the game for free.
I'm under the impression that the Wii U will never get this game. Mobile and PC, along with the PS$, should be getting this game eventually. This was probably affected by Microsoft's policy of wanting multiplats being available on its system first unless additional content is added.
1) Wizards' kowtowing to Microsoft is incredible. Even though Sony's console has a huge audience and is more global, we're probably gonna see fans get denied MTG games because Microsoft gave wizards a little more cash.
2) F2P is 99% cash-grab garbage. Great to know Wizards sees its fanbase as a bunch of 10 year olds with mommy's credit card.
So...what's the difference between this and MTGO? Is this like MTGO lite or something?
MTGO simulates paper MTG and you have to pay for everything in the same way. The casual scene is pretty dry, but it lets you draft and deckbrew and test and play semi-competitively or competitively.
This is most likely a casual game/learning tool from a limited pool of cards/prebuilt decks like other DotP games to introduce people to Magic or for people who want to get out of the hot seat.
lol what is Wizards thinking? The Xbone's sales have been ABYSMAL compared to PS4. This must be a timed exclusive that other consoles will get eventually because Micro***** has to have "exclusives" that are only exclusive for a certain amount of time.
I'm pretty sure this will be very similar to the current DOTP, essentially free to play but with the unlockable content / in game purchases.
I think I paid around $10 on the current DOTP to unlock the main campaign (maybe a bit more for the expansion) everything else was unlocked by play. I will be
shocked if it's an x-box exclusive as each version has been on more and more devices.

While PS4 is certainly far out ahead, Xbox One isn't behind Wii U at all...
Given last year's DotP wasn't on sony either, it's possible the studio that makes these games for WotC just doesn't feel they can do all console platforms at once. The first DotP came out about a year early on xbox, so the studio may just feel they are better at working with the xbox first. Microsoft is also likely helping to fund the development.

Both seem to confirm that it'll be full F2P and not have an entry fee.

It seems to be called Magic Duels Origins.
What makes you think it is $60? Past DotP games have all been $10-$15.

Will this game be released on mobile devices?
Will this game be released on Sony's consoles?
Will this game be released on Xbox 360?
I think it is still too soon to abandon the previous generation consoles. I know I don't own a PS4 or Xbone.
