Not entirely sure if this refers to movie right or the game itself, but it has to be big. The blurb indicates that it might have just been movie rights, or the other way around:
"20th Century Fox has closed a deal to acquire the hugely popular fantasy card game from Hasbro and will develop the property with an eye to launch a massive franchise on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings."
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
Would they start with the Brothers' War and progress from there to make it like harry potter and LotR? Several movies and going form there. They can go all the way to Mirran. Oh what could be what could be... they are going to bomb it aren't they?
The biggest question to me would be whether it would be set on one plane or be an interplanar journey with a bunch of planeswalkers. I wouldn't mind two or three, but anything beyond that...
It's already enough to ask filmgoers to accept a whole new fantasy world, but even beyond that, I doubt they could flesh out onscreen the scale and complexity to more than two planes. I think a movie like "Thor: The Dark World" would be the best reference in terms of tone and scope.
Also, the most cinematic aspects of magic don't correlate to how it is played. Who wants to see a bunch of creatures being summoned all the time when you could see fireballs and stuff?

They wouldn't make a movie of a plotline so far removed from any modern Magic storyline. If this movie actually gets into production (not a guarantee) it would certainly revolve around the current stable of planeswalker characters, Jace and Chandra and co.
Oh please, everyone shut up. We all know everyone here is going to watch it twice regardless of how good or bad the trailer is. This is Star Wars Episode 2 all over again.

No chance. It'll most likely be about Jace and Chandra and Elspeth and Garruk and the rest of our motley gang of Planeswalkers.
I'd personally like to see Elspeth, Tamiyo, Sorin, and Koth on screen. They probably will end up making a Jace/Chandra romance or a Garruk/Liliana fight movie (which I really wouldn't mind) but those are the ones I'd like to explore the most.

No, I'd imagine that they'd start with the Lorwyn 5 and track their respective progressions. The Brothers may be The Hobbit to the Lorwyn 5's Lord of the Rings.

Right. Here's what's really going to happen.
They're going to pit a dwarf, a barbarian and a CGI goblin who always screws up against a red dragon that plans to rule the world. At the 1-hour mark, if you're attentive, you'll catch a throwaway reference to the barbarian having a small 'converted mana cost', but the dialogue will move on so quickly that the non-gamer 99% of the audience won't be confused. That will be the only connection to the game we know in the entire movie. The movie ends with the dragon impaled on a spear and a post-credits scene where a yeti rises from a mound of snow and roars into the camera.

All original characters similar to IDW and Dak Fayden I would bet. If I was Magic creative I would not want to let any Hollywood anything touch my MAIN characters. I mean, what if they needed to kill 1 to make the movie better? Killing off main characters cheaply is a go to for easy tension these days.
No, this will not be a Jace, Garruk, Lilliana etc. movie.
Also, I would be anything pre-mending is off the table for creative reasons as well. I.E., no Brothers War (They sold that to someone else anyway if I recall).

I don't think that will happen either. But you are probably pretty close.
I am certain of a planeswalker, beyond that it's anyones guess.
So no Urza T-T thats what i would love to see. Then the Phyrexians. Wrath and Serra Sanctum. It could be amazing... karn and stuff... one movie per block lol
Now that they have planeswalkers as huge storyline focal points, this makes sense. I hope it doesn't bomb or make Magic seem stupid. (If indeed there is a MtG movie coming.)
I wonder what walkers are going to be featured. Wild guess: JACE.
Sure, there are more chances they screw it up than not, but a good MTG movie(s) would be a boon for the franchise and is definitely something I would love to see! If it's bad, people will just forget about it or joke about how silly it was, nothing dramatic by any means.

That would be my assumption.
The time to make a movie of The Brothers' War would have been when the Brothers' War still had any relevance to the Magic storyline. It's been a long, long time since that's been true in any appreciable way.

WHAT!!! NO WAY!!! who, why? was there an idea for a movie or graphic novel? that would be so cool lol

The lore will probably be shoddy and disappoint me, but it's something I've been waiting for.
