Cogwork Librarian (4)

Draft Cogwork Librarian face up. As you draft a card you may draft an additional card from that booster pack. If you do, put Cogwork Librarian into that booster pack.

Magister of Worth opened at a BNG pre-release
14252042672 is printed on the back of the card
Calling 14252042672 leads to a WOTC number with an encrypted message
The decryted message is Cogwork Librarian
some really cool marketing. kind of bittersweet that it only took plugging into some decryption website. if only they had made a multi card scavenger hunt or something. Maybe there will be more found this weekend as more packs are opened.
Useless for anything else but I would totally pick it up (obviously if there was nothing better) because a colorless hillgiant is far from horrible in limited but the idea of having it for pack 2 or 3 would be amazing if you open a rare bomb + great uncommon or foil or so on. Between this and the magister, I'm super psyched to see this conspiracy set, but if its the new fall set shouldn't it have the new frames? If so that magister that was pulled would be rare as hell. Super jealous, wish I could have amazing stuff like that happen to me. I wonder if he got to play the angel in the pre-re lol

Oh my God. As soon as I read "Draft Cogwork Librarian face up" I lost my freaking mind. I don't know anything else about this product, and already I desperately want Wizards to take all my money.
Could this be the "Buy-a-Cube" thing that some people have posed interest in? An alternate game mode, combined in to a cube experience could actually be pretty awesome.
I really like the idea of a buy-a-cube, but Magister of Worth is number *28/210. 210 seems a little small for an 8 man cube.

Do you think there's any way Cogwork Librarian could work on MTGO, v3 or v4? I don't see how it could work in v3, which suggests to me that Conspiracy won't make it online (unless v3 goes dark first).

Maybe this could be a third Un set? Still kinda new to magic and that is my guess. Unglued, Unhinged, and now Unraveled because we have to unravel this message!

The angel is not silver bordered, art doesn't break the frame, not doing anything you can't do in a regular Magic set. Not Un.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but:
1) Un-sets have a silly flavor to the cards. This card is not jokey.
2) Un-sets are silver-bordered. This one isn't.
3) We know for a fact Conspiracy is a product that Wizards are putting out around this time.
4) The clue gotten from the phone number on the back of this card has the word "Conspiracy" on it
Doubt it just because that would be weird. I think the most likely thing is a set, sold in booster packs, that's meant to be drafted. Like Modern Masters, but with a focus on the types of cards that appeal to Planechase, Commander, and Archenemy fans.

Basically anything it could be would be weird, based on the information we have.
If it is in fact a five-person multiplayer cube, that would make some more sense as a casual product than a full eight-person one, as it's easier to get five people to play, and it works better for a multiplayer setup than a huge eight-person free-for-all.
The main problem with the booster pack scenario is the small card pool for the set. Even with cards like the Librarian that are made specifically for drafting, the format would not be as deep or robust compared to expansions with a larger pool.

That's what makes me believe this is intended both to be a draftable set & a cube supplement. The Librarian is going to end up in a huge number of cubes & that's easily the effect WotC wants with it.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):

Additionally, 210 is a very strange number of cards for a cube. Obviously, you can add and drop some of your own, but most cubes are a multiple of 45 (since that's the number of cards drafted by a single player).
Still, I'm excited by the idea of a casual multiplayer format that can be drafted but doesn't require you to build a whole cube from the ground up. This is the first time that a card has ever specifically mentioned the draft process, so I have high hopes that we see more effects along these lines.

there's actually a rule in place that says anything you crack that isn't supposed to be in the set can't be played. Totally worth it, as that exact card is going to be worth tons of loot after all of this.

A full sized Cube product would have to have a pretty high price point, and to be satisfying would probably need to reprint some pretty powerful and high-profile stuff. I like the idea of this being a "mini-cube" with interesting draft mechanics, that can be played on its own, but which is meant to ultimately be a supplement or seed for a full-fledged, personalized cube.

It could be an impure cube where there are repeats of commons. Or it could be a framework cube where you add your own cards in to customize.

This is a Conspiracy card, not an un-set card.
It looks like it will be a 5 or 7-person cube.
