Sweetness! I think 4 is the perfect number, this way each set release has a PT attached to it, and since the PT names won't be city names anymore, it will be much easier to remember when someone talks about PT gatecrash, or PT 2014, since we can much easier reference the time period that it occured.

I think its important to mention in OP that first pro tour after rotation will be standard and the core set pro tour will also be standard. Modern and Block are still formats for PT.
As Grand Prix's dotation is one of the two last motivation quoted by GP attendants (according to studies quoted by AaFo), it's really unlikely it will happens.
That's a tricky thing to measure because you're polling how people feel about the way things are with limited ability to gauge the response to how things could be. If there's a history of prizes not being very good, of course the playerbase will not demand great prizes, because the playerbase has been sculpted to not care much about prizes otherwise they wouldn't play. But if prizes were great already, who knows how high players in that universe would list that as their motivation.
Of course, what you can take away from such studies is that WotC is doing just fine with the status quo. Could they do better? Hard to tell.
The other big news coming during Day Two of the Pro Tour was the announcement of a fourth Pro Tour being added to the 2013-14 schedule. It will be run in conjunction with the summer Core Set, and further details will be posted Monday on DailyMTG.com.
I'm happy about this. I'm not likely to qualify for any of the pro tours, but I will be able to play in lots more PTQs. I plan on grinding ptqs to qualify for the M14 PT as I'm a standard player by nature.
They really need to move back to old naming conventions...Pro Tour Magic 2014 sounds even more awful than Pro Tour Gatecrash...
The current naming conventions does remove some of the ambiguity of the old naming convention. Saying "Pro Tour Chicago" isn't as meaningful when there have been multiple Pro Tours in Chicago.
(Rich) "Did you consider Legacy as the format?"
(Helen) "We did, but whilst there is a strong following, it's not popular enough. Standard is the most played format by miles."
Great, when I read this I just died a little inside. Why, WotC, why?!?!?!
At least we're getting the 4th pro tour back though. Hopefully they'll bump it up to 5 in the future and we might get a legacy PT, because that would be great in my eyes. Legacy deserves a PT.
Wonder what the club changes will be for platinum level and such. Hopefully they'll be better than what we currently have.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Being I have friends that are quite into Legacy, I wish there were more events for them; However, Standard is already expensive to keep up with without the cost of entry for getting a real competitive deck put together for Legacy. Frankly, if various events here didn't allow proxies, I don't think even my friends who love Legacy would be able to play.
Simply put, Legacy is dying. Rapidly. How are you supposed to build a deck when your mana-base costs you $1,000, and people simply aren't willing to trade stuff, even if it is of value?
This is definitely an issue. As someone who just recently decided to get into the format, it was a long, slow process... almost to the point of being infuriating (and I still haven't been able to trade for key pieces of my deck). If you're a newer player or like me and natural disaster struck so you lost any Legacy worthy cards you once had, and you're trying to keep up with newer formats like Standard and Modern, most of your trade and value is going to be in newer cards. In trying to trade for cards for Legacy, I either get turned away, or they trade their cards at a rather ridiculous premium because they're used in Legacy.
So, it comes down to: Do I want to trade all in to play in a dying format? Or do I want to keep playing the two most supported formats for the foreseeable future? Well, I certainly can't justify the former when it's only life line is the SCG Open Series, and in the end those players wanting to trade their cards at a premium are only damning the format. The irony of a dead Legacy is that the value of the cards they're trying to put a premium on is going to plummet. Wizards can't give them more support, because they won't let players enter into their elite club so the format will grow. Legacy is on the path that lead Vintage to being where it's at, now, and the Legacy players are the largely driving force behind that.

Cost of entering the format is pretty expensive. But it is still a lot cheaper than standard overall.

Dear kbx41,

Flaming or Other Forms of Misbehavior
Saying that you sometimes wish people (in this case the implication is the staff) would fall down a well and get AIDS is hardly appropriate for the forum.
I can see why they don't want legacy and I'm glad PTs are now a mix of constructed and limited, but you would think they could do something better than just have standard twice.
Even if it were the last PT being modern and standard.
Definitely feels like a good fit. A Pro Tour linked with every new set. Not sure how adding more would fit in. Not sure how they use to do it, but would have to break the set tie-in.
PT Friends changing to Standard means that we will have no Modern PT this year, right? This makes me sad =\
Nope, friends will still be modern. I think that these changes will not take effect until 2014. Does anyone know what format the " core set pro tour" qualifiers will be?

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
1. Autumn large set PT - Standard
2. Winter set PT - Modern
3. Spring set PT - Block Constructed
4. NEW: Core set PT - Standard (again)
That's a good setup, I was finding it pretty weird that the only Standard PTs the last two years have been in the middle of the blocks with only two of the sets released.
It's not impossible to reprint the staples. And even if they do - it doesn't need to be all at once. Reprinting them slowly card by card or card sets would be fine as well for the card pool as well for the market.
Also given the fact that FTV : Twenty is supposed to feature 20 card each for every one year of magics existence. I hardly doubt that it will have 10 dual lands. You probably didn't mean it serious any way.
But reprinting all than ABU Duals somewhere - even in a few to several limited print commander product would be LEGEN-wait for it-DARY !!! Only the ABU Duals and the cards from Legends are cards with extreme short supply. And even some of the cards from Legends did get reprinted in some way Judge Promo Karakas!
The reserved list means that ABU duals will never be reprinted.
I do like the changes to adding the fourth PT and corresponding PTQ season. Mostly because this means more chances for large tournaments in the area, and therefore more chances for me to get product to trade in for Legacy cards. But in all honesty, I think having a fourth PTQ season to eliminate the "dead" quarter of the year is really good for making sure there are tournaments at all times of the year. Also relevant that since dead season is during the summer and a lot of players/judges (myself included) are in high school or college, we have an easier time making tournaments during the summer, when we don't have to worry about classes and homework. Also, there being slightly fewer PTQ's per week is probably good for the grinders in that direction as well.
However, this is MTGS, and therefore, I am obligated going to lodge one issue: Another limited PTQ season? I shudder to think how that's going to work out if they're going to Core Set limited PTQ season - those tend to be incredibly dull, stale, and of correspondingly low turnout. I think the best way for them to do it (I know they don't read this, but hopefully) is to do Limited for the PTQ season for the large fall set, and then for the third set in the spring. Modern will be during the winter small set, and then Standard for the Core Set season. But that brings a problem because it'll be Standard PTQ's feeding into Standard PT. But I think Rotation makes that less of an issue than it otherwise would be.

Although it's awkward to have back to back Standard pro tours, they're definitely the two times you actually want them- immediately post-rotation, and when the format is as big as possible.
