It's a U/W O-ring that exiles all permanents with the same name as the permanent that you target.

Enchantment Rare
When Detention Sphere enters the battlefield, you may exile target nonland permanent not named Detention Sphere and all other permanents with the same name as that permanent.
When Detention Sphere leaves the battlefield, return the exiled cards to the battlefield under their owner's control.
This card seems so good to me now that I think about it. It hoses tokens, can answer most of the good zombies, it's aggressively costed. Good card is good. It's also worth noting that it says "you may" so you can't get blown out the way you can if they unsummon their guy in response to you playing your o-ring etc.
it dies to abrupt decay, but that's not too bad i guess.
So, take away 1, add a U, make it a rare, and you get ALL permanents of that name? Seems about right. I like this card a lot. I cannot wait to name Sol Ring in Commander (assuming I don't have one out ;))

Amazing Avy & Sig by mchief111 @ Rising Studios [4/22/11]
Against black deck's this is pretty much a perfect answer to anything they have. Crawlers, messengers all of them just go away forever. Unless those decks are packing green in some capacity (which they just might for golgari zombies) then they have literally no outs. Very good piece of removal
10/1/2007: If there are no nonland permanents on the battlefield other than an Oblivion Ring, and the card it exiled was another Oblivion Ring, casting a third Oblivion Ring will result in an involuntary infinite loop that will end the game in a draw (unless someone chooses to break it by putting another nonland permanent onto the battlefield or destroying one of the Oblivion Rings, for example).
There are things you can add to make it win the game as opposed to forcing a draw.
This card removes that potential by not being able to remove a card with the same name.
This will do good things for control. Same weaknesses as O-ring except it can't target other Detention Spheres. Guarantees 3-4 abrupt decays in lots of decks now. If nothing else, it's a great stall card.

On a more serious note, this card is very interesting. It is essentially an O-Ring with upside, and that is saying a lot. However, I'm not entirely sure how relevant this type of effect will be in the upcoming standard environment. The removal spoiled so far is very efficient and less susceptible to causing blowouts, so we will have to see what kind of role this card plays. Maybe in some kind of UWR midrange deck?

Oh, so you have 3 Gravecrawlers eh?
I'm disappointed that they took out the most fun part of Oring — the infinite combo potential. I'm also a bit disappointed that it's a rare.

There are a lot of good utility cards in this set at rare.
The only bad part about this card is that it is destroyed by Abrupt Decay.
Thanks to Rivenor of Miraculous Recovery Signatures!

there's an infinite combo involving oring?
this card is ridiculously awesome. i approve.
Explain the combo!
Also, the art has a smiley face. You will never unsee that.
What's to hate about it? Killing an entire field of tokens for 3 still seems good, no?
i have a blog. i drink. i draft. misplays ensue.

And just before token players thought they are free from MBS block hosers.

Except that no other color's removal is easily reversible.
Dies to Abrupt Decay.
