"What is the Planechase mode like? Will it use the old Planechase , or the new Planechase 2012 ?"
"Planechase 2012 . If you liked Planechase in paper, then you're going to love it in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 ."
"Last year players who purchased Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 could receive a promo card. The game also featured cards from the Magic 2012 Core Set , along with in-game advertisements for the Magic Celebration ."
"There's going to be a similar promotion this year too. Players will see a lot of cards from the Magic 2013 Core Set in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 so that when they walk into a brick and mortar store for Friday Night Magic or the Magic Celebration they'll recognize many of the cards they see in person."
"I noticed that Nicol Bolas is everywhere. Why?"
"Nicol Bolas is the face of Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 and he's going to be in the Magic 2013 Core Set ."
"Wow! What made R&D decide to bring multicolored cards to the core set?"
"That's something Mark Rosewater and our other R&D members will be discussing later in their articles on DailyMTG.com."
Very nice to have confirmation of this stuff. I'm still a bit conflicted on the inclusion of Bolas in the core set, though; it depends on if he's the only gold card in the set or not.
Nicol Bolas needs a snidely whiplash mustache to twirl, pasted on top of his cardboard cutout writing, complete lack of motive, non-retconned-every-time schemes and character development. Hopefully the D13 will include a comic relief segment where you need to rescue Liliana after he ties her to a railroad track
Gotta love breaking the rules when it comes to core sets, as core sets are the sets I least enjoy. All I hope is that I'm able to draft grixis control after I P1P1 Nicol Bolas, PW.
Also wonder what the art will look like, although the original nicol bolas PW art is fantastic.
Nicol Bolas being in probably has to do with foreshadowing the next block's theme, as ravnica is a multicolor block.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I suddenly have a mental image of a united Planeswalker group on Ravnica backed by the guilds under Niv Mizzet slaying Nico Bolas through some long winded plot in the next couple sets.
Hopefully it'll be the same Bolas from Grixis so my friend can finally put the couple of Bolas cards to good use.
Multicolour is nice to have in a core set. I hope its not a one of like legends in 10th

Dear kbx41,
You have received a warning at MTG Salvation Forums.

Saying that you sometimes wish people (in this case the implication is the staff) would fall down a well and get AIDS is hardly appropriate for the forum.
Nicol Bolas is on a fruitless quest to regain old planeswalker powers.... its not like he can change back Magic rules. He is boring.
Although as a card, he is indeed a great finisher.. especially now he will be playable in a multicolor RTR standard.
Pretty sure whatever he did with the Maelstrom gave him his oldwalker status back. But i think a Draconic 'walker Duel to the Death would be awesome. Even if Niv is at a bit of a disadvantage :S
So if Core 2013 is gonna be pushing Multicolor (probably with the aim to help support RTR) then is it likely we'll be seeing reprints of the Shocklands in the Core Set?
If it's PW Bolas, I guess I can nix the chances of a full Elder Dragon cycle reprint?
I'm lukewarm on the idea of multicolor cards in general for being in a core set, but there's time to change my mind yet.
If people want them bad enough, wizards might reprint the Elder Dragons.
It was only a matter of time for them to include multicolored cards in a core set. Outside of Nicol Bolas, I'm interested to see what cards they bring into the core set, since there's plenty of potential reprints that they can bring in that I think demonstrate simple interactions of colors between multicolored cards, such as Lightning Helix.
Well, if this does bring multicolor to Core set, then let me say this:
FINALLY!!!
Seriously. It was fine when they bring legendary for Xth, but then they jumped straight to planeswalker, which is not only new but also more complicated, before introducing multicolor. And they have been putting dual lands for YEARS in core set without a single multicolor card.
mechanics that force you to take damage are very disliked by begginner players, that's why we don't have painlands anymore, i don't think it's very likely to see shocklands taking into account that basic land types on nonbasic is confusing as well.
nice to see them use multicolor in the core set, since the next expert expansion is going to feature probably even hybrid at some point, it should help create buzz in the players that haven't experienced the alara block, the little multicolor hints in innistrad help for that as well. There will be some really flavorful and or powerful cards just like in ISD block to hype the multicolor mechanic.
i wouldnt expect many multicolored commons or non rare enemy colored cards if any at all. wotc said the problem with multicolor and core sets wasnt that players didnt understand theconcept, but rather that they had problems with making a proper mana base to support them.
This is fantastic news! Bolas is a great villian and I'm glad there getting back to him after several blocks away, with somewhat bland villains (Eldrazi = Cuthulu, forever ruined by Munchkin) having filled the void. This makes me even more excited for RTR if their willing to push multicolour in core sets.
It would be cool if we saw a different Nicol Bolas PW card, just to have something new. However, I won't hold my breath nor will I be disappointed to see his original PW form.

The card image originally shown appears to be Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker with his Conflux art and updated set symbol.
It really was just a matter of time before it happened. The core is just driven by the next block. Since Return to Ravnica is looking like more gold cards, it is nice to have M10 and Innistrad duals. Probably not getting back shocklands on top of those since we will presumably have a dual for each color pair.

Nicol Bolas has a perfectly valid motive: He wants to regain his immortality, at any cost.
Oh, and as a bonus, here are the motives for the other three main villains of Wotc's MTG rogues gallery:
Liliana: Kill the demons who own her soul, at any cost.
Phyrexians: "Perfect" the entire multiverse.
Eldrazi: Eat everything.
A villain does not need to have a complex motive to be a good villain, and Bolas is decent villain with an understandable goal.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
now that they have multi color in core we need to have dual lands downgraded to uncommon. Everybody wants to play more than 2 colors in a realistic and efficient fashion.
Rare lands screw up limited, make them more expansive than necessary and is all around bad design. With the reserve list debacle, they could put an end to this nonsense with a mythic triple (or quintuple) land already...

This is easily the most plausible explanation; they're revisiting Ravnica and need to ease new players into the idea of mutli-colored costs. Though to be frank, if an new player can figure out how Planeswalkers work, I'm pretty sure they're advanced enough to understand how to tap the right color lands for a gold card.
I think the bigger issue is one of limited; learning how many lands you need to support a splash color can be really tricky, as lots of new players struggle with land composition already. I'm going to guess that we're going to be sticking with allied color combinations in M13.
