Another message from the source of "some more filler" and "some more filler III". I believe he has the whole spoiler, or at least most of it... but is either scared to post it this early, or doesn't believe it's a good idea. Either way, we're getting info, so I'm not gonna email bomb him or anything.
Nightguard Patrol - 2W
Creature - Human Soldier (C)
First strike, vigilance
2/1
Obviously not as bad as some "filler" could be. Definitely a solid pick in limited, as you don't mind attacking wrecklessly with this boy, since he can take down anything with less than 3 toughness and live, plus stand back and block... or be used for Convoking. Splashable, good creature type. Solid.
Vedalken Dismisser - 5U
Creature - Vedalken Wizard (C)
When Vedalken Dismisser comes into play, put target creature on top of its owner's library.
2/2
Unhappy.
Sewerdreg - 3BB
Creature - Spirit (C)
Swampwalk
Sacrifice Sewerdreg: Remove target card in a graveyard from the game.
3/3
Probably not as "filler" as the source seems to think IMO. For more than the price of a Hill Giant, you're getting Swampwalk (probably pretty useful in a multicoloured environment - and one with dual lands that count as Swamps) plus it's a Spirit (another attempt by R&D to frantically get people to see spiritcraft as a useful theme) and it sacrifices to get rid of opposing dredge spells and reanimation targets. Quite a high draft pick, I'd say. Also works nicely with Savra Queen of the Golgari because it's black and sacrifices itself on command.
Viashino Fangtail - 2RR
Creature - Viashino Warrior (C)
: Viashino Fangtail deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
3/3
Wow, speaking of Hill Giants... that's strong. Taking care of Saproling hordes keeps those Convokers in their place, I say! Probably a first or second pick, depending on any other bombs appearing in the pack. Pingers aren't usually constructed worthy, though, which is probably why this is considered filler.
Elvish Skysweeper - G
Creature - Elf Warrior (C) 4G, Sacrifice a creature: Destroy target creature with flying.
1/1
That ability looks pretty expensive, but I guess what can you expect on a 1/1 for with a good creature type, anyway? If this is the worst filler in the set, bring it on, bring it on.
Dimir Infiltrator - UB
Creature - Spirit (C)
Dimir Infiltrator is unblockable.
Transmute 1UB(1UB, Discard this card: Search your library for a card with the same converted mana cost as this card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. Play only as a sorcery.)
1/3
Seems like you get a lot for 2 mana these days, geez. Is it just me, or does this plane contain more Spirits than any other... except for the one which coincidentally was featured in the block before it? :slant:
Golgari Guildmage -
Creature - Elf Shaman (U) (:symbg: can be paid with either or :symg:.) 4B, Sacrifice a creature: Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand. 4G: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
2/2
This does lots of good things - Raise Deads stuff, sacrifices to power other effects, pumps your army. You pay for what you get, though. Limited bomb (just like all the other guildmages). Playable in constructed in the right kind of deck.
Glass Golem - 5
Artifact Creature - Golem (U)
6/2
YES! Definitely! It's got flavour, check. Vanilla creatures are sweet, check. Panther Warriors in monoblue decks? Check!
Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion
Land (U)
: Add 1 to your mana pool. 2RW, : Target creature gains double strike until end of turn.
I think the red/white weenie decks are going to be pretty tight with mana, and might not want a colourless producing land.
nice find, and allthough most of the commons are pretty baisic, at least they are innovateive, i still say that eveything about this set is shapeing up to be realy nice.
Thanks a bunch RE

Thanks again to our source, and R_E... damn you guys are doing good!
These are about what I'd expect for fillers, but I'm already a fan of Sunhome... Doublestrike on command is nothing to be sneezed at, especially in Limited, but especially uncounterable doublestriking goodness. GO Boros Legion weenie horde GO!
I can't wait to see the art on the Golgari Guildmage, with the Black through Green bleed. It's a nice wee card too, and about on par with our friend the Selesnya Guildmage.
Awesome! Here's to having the Spoiler done by Belgareth's Birthday! (September 9th!)
Ravnica... I'm feelin' it baby! but wait...
Damn it, will you all quit with the first/second crap!!!!! It's pissin' everyone off man!
I'm really starting to be turned off by all the spirits in this set. It seems like a really clumsy way of connecting Rav to CHK. I hope in the future they can come up with more subtle interactions, like how ONS had cycling and the fetchlands after ODY's Threshold mechanic.
Mmmm mmmm....Glass Golem's so flavorful, it's like a perfect creature in terms of flavor. As for everything else, I'm getting happier with what white's getting. That soldier's plain solid, and with that new white enchantment, RW's looking better than ever!

At most there are 18 spirits in Ravnica. That isn't very many in a large expansion, so relax will ya.
Why are you acting as though inter block synergy is a bad thing, its actually a good way to stimulate better deck design and as far as im concerned it dosent matter what creature types theyve got in this set as long as its not hommerid...

about the spirit thing: in the book ghosts inhabit the plane. so its completely possible that some of the spirits aren't so much "kamigawa-esque" spirits as pre-kamigawa spirits
Slapping a bunch of spirits into the middle of a city setting is out of place, that's all. I'd just like to see something a little less tacked on next time.
Damn....these are pretty sweet fillers......this set is becoming so useful.....I hope it never makes other sets like nothing you know.......ohwell.....

If you break down the Vedalken Dismisser...you get a 2/2 for three, which is fairly usual for blue. You also get a Time Ebb, which costs three as well. If you look it at it that way, it's not quite so bad.

Nightguard Patrol - 2W
Creature - Human Soldier (C)
First strike, vigilance
2/1
First strike and vigilance definitely makes it a good pick for limited, allows for convoking and brings down anything weaker than 3-butt, but dies easily to pingers like Viashino Fangtail.
Vedalken Dismisser - 5U
Creature - Vedalken Wizard (C)
When Vedalken Dismisser comes into play, put target creature on top of its owner's library.
2/2
Meh. Chaff that's definitely gonna exist. Could be remotely useful in getting rid of big fat threats and delaying their draws for a turn, but I doubt its usefulness. Maybe a 2/4 body could have justified its overcosted-ness.
Sewerdreg - 3BB
Creature - Spirit (C)
Swampwalk
Sacrifice Sewerdreg: Remove target card in a graveyard from the game.
3/3
Ability's crap, but swampwalk justifies its existance in a metagame where 2 of the 4 guilds have B in it. A 3-head makes it an okay beatstick with unblockability.
Viashino Fangtail - 2RR
Creature - Viashino Warrior (C) T : Viashino Fangtail deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
3/3
Hill-giant pinger. Not much to say, except that it's definitely better than Frostwielder for its cost-p/t ratio. Could be a mid-high pick in limited depending on the proliferation of 1-toughness creatures.
Elvish Skysweeper - G
Creature - Elf Warrior (C) 4G, Sacrifice a creature: Destroy target creature with flying.
1/1
The last time we saw a G-creature with an activated ability against flying that involved sacrificing was Viridian Scout. 2 more to totally kill the flier with an added choice of using other creatures makes it slightly better than the Scout. Could see limited play, but definitely not constructed-worthy.
1/3
Another 2-cc Transmuter on legs, Neo-Finkel lacks the card advantage that its predecessor brought about, but unblockability could prove useful depending on what equipment Ravnica brings us. A 3-butt could possible prove useful in blocking anything with a 2-head and less.
Golgari Guildmage - :symbg::symbg:
Creature - Elf Shaman (U) (:symbg: can be paid with either or :symg:.) 4B, Sacrifice a creature: Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand. 4G: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
2/2
Malevolent Awakening and Battlegrowth on legs seems good, but the abilities seems a tad bit pricey, perhaps too pricey for it to be of any good use. The nature of this card makes it combo with Savra, Queen of the Golgari, but 4B:symbg::symbg: ( 7 ) may be a little too much for a Death Pact effect.
Glass Golem - 5
Artifact Creature - Golem (U)
6/2
What can I say? A little vanilla here and there is okay, give it some form of regeneration or evasion and we're talking! Better than Leashling in my opinion.
Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion
Land (U) T : Add 1 to your mana pool. 2RW, T : Target creature gains double strike until end of turn.
The second revealed in the cycle of uncommon guildhomes. Double-strike is good, and the 4-mana investment makes it okay for giving fatties double-striking goodness. Overall a balanced card, though I doubt it will see play in a RWweenie deck due to its mana-intensive cost. (to them, anyway.)

This card could have been so cool, or at least fun. But instead of costing the raise dead ability at 2B, or even 3B to fit in with two of the other guild mages, they put those ability costs into the stratosphere.
This card could have been played, I know I would've played it with Savra, but as it is now, it is strictly a limited card.

WotC: you should've kept the same team that designed Ravnica - they had some sense of creativity. The Guildpact team appears to have the combined resourcefulness of three baboons, a plunger, and a broken coconut. Go team!
Since I'm getting so much flak from the fanboys at the slightest criticism of the set, let me explain exactely what I mean...
Cycling and the fetchlands did something useful by themselves. Having the creature-type spirit does nothing on it's own. Aside from being out of flavor for the block, (which you may disagree with, that's fine) it adds nothing mechanically by itself. It is what it obviously is: an after thought glued on to the set for the purpose of fulfilling Wizard's promise of more interaction between blocks.
They could have done other things to tie Rav to CHK. For example, RAV probably won't have much equipment, but CHK does. They could have given the Boros a mechanic interacts with equipment. Or they could have brought back Buyback to interact with the Wisdom mechanic. That's just two ideas off the top of my head. They could have come up with something less forced and more subtle than a bunch of spirits.
I wouldn't underestimate the expensive Vedalken guy -- I think he's playable in Limited. I've always been a fan of Fallow Earth or Time Ebb like effects, and this guy is basically a Gray Ogre with a Time Ebb attached. It's always a big tempo play -- it denies a draw, removes a blocker for a turn, and makes them replay their creature.
I'm happy with all of these cards for Limited -- they're all great.

I don't see how you can say that, seeing as how we really only have vague ideas about what the flavor of the Dimir guild will be (which seems to be where the majority of the spirits are coming from). Having the creature type Spirit may not do anything on its own, but it doesn't take away anything either... and if done correctly, it'll actually make for very cool flavor. I wouldn't say it's an "elegant" solution but it's not inelegant either, and I certainly don't think its anything to complain about.
Six for a 2/2??
God,thats as bad as the mix card, two blue to counter two spells??

Dude the dismisser costs 6. If it did cost 3 we would have an upgraded manowar, and ill be jumping for joy.
Unfortunately he costs double what you thought, so he does suck....
He was breaking the card down into component cost. BTW - even at even cost, it's a loss. Needs to be more efficient (for being so restrictive.) You tend to see ALOT of this crap in blue filler - one of the reasons why Blue Creature Decks don't exist on a regular basis.
Nightguard Patrol - 2/1 - shiny. First Strike is my FAVORITE combat ability, ever. This guy is nice.

Elvish Skysweeper - WOW. shoulda cost more and made the ability affordable. I hear 1/1 for 1 aren't too good without haste or a good, cheap ability. Limited Sideboard.
Dimir Infiltrator - Interesting - a 1/2 would have been unplayable, but this guy is neat. Also has transmute, but what do you want to find 2CC for 3 at sorcery speed?
Golgari Guildmage - Uninspired, but really good in limited. Turns early dorks into finishers, and brings back finishers. Yay. (Removal MAGNET)
Glass Golem - 6/2? Who are we fooling - make it a 6/1 and have it cost 1 less.
Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion - Owww... Doublestriking Fatties are the stuff of nightmares. Good thing this will likelo not see the light of day. Oh. by the way - guess what happens when you stack the ability-sharing ability, and activate this? Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww......
