It doesn't seem like a great solution. Shops almost exclusively wins via its own creatures. So you need to have a creature in play already to do something with this. And you're then left with your one creature versus (likely) their Monastery Mentor. And if they can remove your creature, they can easily make a token that then stops you from playing other creatures, locking you out.
Like sure, it's great if you've got two creatures in play plus like a chalice on one so they can't Bolt/Swords your dudes, but at that point does it matter what else you've got?
If you;re this concerned about Mentor, maybe try Grim Poppet? It's a Triskelion for one mana more, only it ends up as a 4/4 after expending its removal, and it can make sure two activations is enough to keep Mentor off the board even if they can prowess it in response, plus it mops up one of the tokens as well, leaving behind a body that eats the other tokens.

I was considering Triskelion, but was unenthused... Grim Poppet doesn't seem to bring a ton more to the table, but I suppose it's better. Ratchet Bomb is something I didn't consider, and it probably is a better choice for my build than Engineered Explosives.

Like I said, Poppet offers a few advantages Trike doesn't. A cunning player can save their Mentor from Triskelion with instant speed prowess triggers, forcing you to spend all three counters or even waste them. With Poppet, two counters is guaranteed to kill at the end of the turn, and the third counter will guaranteed kill a token. And then you're left with a 4/4, who can stave off any tokens that survived the onslaught.
Ratchet Bomb/Engineered Explosives are fine, but they only really deal with the tokens themselves, and just once. Unless you have a way to kill the mentor as well, they're just going to make more and eventually overrun you.

This seems like a potential sideboard solution for Monastery Mentor, given the difficulty for MUD to race Mentor, at least some of the time.
I like it. The version of shops I play has the full grip of Tangle Wire so that helps at least. Every little does.

StaffDoesn't work as well in Shops though. The only reason Portcullis and similar are viable as options is because of Mishra's Workshop.
