I really like aspects of both Tezzeret Control and Stax decks. However, I also like Mycosynth Lattice as its a great card that can really annoy your opponents. Here's what I was thinking of running in the deck so far:
There are 59 cards in total listed up there. There are some combos if I may that I'd like to explain and their purpose for being there.
1) Painter's Servant = Good blocker + Make all cards blue in addition to pitch whatever I want for Force of Will and counter/destroy anything with Red Elemental Blast for 1 mana.
2) Why am I trying to run Mycosynth Lattice? = Well there are a number of combinations that it serves. For example, it makes Tezzeret's final ability much more powerful. Also, Hurkyl's Recall becomes much more effective and return's all opponent's permanents instead of just their artifacts. There's a number of other things I could consider running with Lattice in here such as - Null Rod to lock the board after obtaining a creature and swinging for the win or Darksteel Forge + Nevinnyral's Disk to continuosly and permanently board wipe my opponent's permanents until I'm able to win.
Some things however I'm beginning to question if it should be here like the Time Vault + Voltaic Key. It's a great combo but is it win or win more? I have it in here as an alt. win condition if something were to happen to either Mycosynth Lattice or Tezzeret.
Any suggestions on what to add/drop from my decklist in making it better? I'm trying to keep original yet competitive and I view Mycosynth Lattice as truly an annoying card to deal with.
If you're running Painter's Servant, why would you not run Grindstone? It says you win.
Cutting Time Vault + Key is insane since it is by far the best, easiest combo in vintage. That's what you want to do with Tezzeret, not trying to overrun them. It's just much easier.
Mycosynth Lattice is a 6 CMC card that, by itself, does nothing. It doesn't have a place here.
You're trying to mash together too many decks, and worst of all you're leaving out their best parts. STAX without Spheres? Painter without Grindstone?
I appreciate your drive and originality but Vintage may not be the place for you to try to express your creativity. It's a pretty stable format and good new decks don't come around all that often. Most of the good ideas have already been had.
I see your point. And I also respect your opinion, however that doesn't mean I'm not open to other options. I could say drop Painter's Servant but then I'd be dropping Force of Will + Red Elemental Blast and without any counterspells, I feel somewhat helpless.
So how about Grindstone? As you said it automatically wins. And you're right, with Painter's Servant it does. But then why not then build a damn Grindstone deck? Well that's not my intentions.
Mycosynth Lattice is indeed 6 mana and on its own, it does very little. But combining it is what my intentions are for this deck whether it be with Tezzeret, Darksteel Forge/Nevinnyral's Disk, Hurkyl's Recall (To gain an extra turn) and of course, Null Rod. But there are many ways that I can easily get the 6 drop artifact out into play. I could:
a) Have 2 Mishra's Workshops on the field and put it out on turn 2.
b) Get into the graveyard and just use Goblin Welder to weld it into play.
c) I could Tinker for it seeing how ATM I don't have a big creature yet to tinker for (but I'm considering either Darksteel or Inkwell to take the role)
So I have a number of ways in getting it out into play. I think I've clearly explained my reasons and the purpose of running Mycosynth Lattice in a competitive deck build.
I think I want to add Null Rod to the MD as a possible 2 of. Maybe even add 1 more Mycosynth Lattice as well. And again, I think having a big beater such as Darksteel or Inkwell may work nicely, especially when I lock the field with Lattice + Null Rod.
I may just go ahead and ditch the Red Elemental Blasts, but I'm not too sure as of yet on what to do about that.
Also I've had some problems in drawing cards. Would anyone like to recommend some useful draw cards that could work here?
Dark Confidant
Night's Whisper
Skeletal Scrying
Brainstorm
Thirst for Knowledge
Intuition/Accumulated Knowledge
Solemn Simulacrum (with Welder)
Can all be used for draw. Really, to make your deck competitive you should either drop the Painters, Vault, Key & Mycosynth Lattice and play a real Workshop list, drop Mycosynth Lattice, Painters, Welders, Workshop & Crucibles and play Tezz, or drop the Mycosynth Lattice, Workshops & Crucibles and play Painter. Mycosynth Lattice is unplayable in Vintage. It is too slow, does basically nothing, and is one of the least effective things I can think of to cheat into play with Welder. I think you come up with lots of cool ideas like the Lattice, Erayo, etc. but they will not work in today's competitive environment. They would be great for casual though.
I just want to find something that isn't already used by everyone else. I'm sick of playing with a deck that I didn't have any part in building.
It gives me that feeling of "I shouldn't be playing it because it isn't mine" type of deal.
There's gotta be something that isn't used very much that works really well.
Thank you for being honest Doomsday. You know how hard I try to make something original work as you've seen from other posts.
The only real reason I gave up on Erayo is because of that new card from Zendikar that practically kills Storm decks and Erayo requires 4 spells played in a turn so I know it will be a card run in SB for Storm decks.
I will see what I can do with Mycosynth Lattice before I give up on it.
I'm going to do some more research and see what I can do to make the deck flow smoother.
There's gotta be something that isn't used very much that works really well.
The problem is that you have thousands of players and deckbuilders in a field that doesn't change. If something worked really well, it would be used a lot.
The only real reason I gave up on Erayo is because of that new card from Zendikar that practically kills Storm decks and Erayo requires 4 spells played in a turn so I know it will be a card run in SB for Storm decks.
You do know that even if a spell is countered it still counts as being played, right? So Mindbreak Trap doesn't kill your combo at all, and Erayo will still flip. That's no reason not to pursue Erayo further.
So then Erayo currently still has a shot at being a competitive deck?
If you have any thoughts on Erayo, I have a thread below and would appreciate it if you could go there and maybe leave me a post, maybe make some suggestions on what I should and/or shouldn't run in the deck.
why do you care about the new card from zendikar? exiled or not, they're still cast and will still flip erayo. that said, you should probably be packing it yourself so you don't die to drain tendrils lists, which you will if you don't get a lab down.
that said, you've got a 60th spot. can't hurt to toss in one darksteel colossus or inkwell leviathan as another tinker target. it might be overdone, but it works. there's nothing wrong with using a little old tech with your new. I'm certainly not one to reinvent the wheel, though i too enjoy playing my own decks. A good example is my old howling burn deck, but that is neither here nor there. you really should be packing a thirst for knowledge. card draw is good and this card is one of the better. lots of artifacts...no tolarian academy? it's good for your mana at least. also, sideboard some grindstones to go with the painters servants...no reason not to have a transformational board for some hilarity.
I actually forgot to put down Tolarian Academy. I do have it MD, I just couldn't remember the 60th Card.
Thirst for Knowledge is great and so is another Tinker target. And that's not a bad idea to at least have Grindstone in the SB to switch it up a bit and confuse the opponent. That's the one thing I love about this deck right now. People I've played with are unsure of what to hold that counter spell for against me lol.
I'm thinking of cutting away Red Elemental Blast. Or at least pushing it over to the SB because I was thinking of how powerful Mycosynth + Null Rod is, especially after tinkering for a Darksteel or Inkwell.
Ok, I did some thinking about this deck and thought about including some creatures that have "Affinity for artifacts" and get enough artifacts out before playing Mycosynth Lattice + Null Rod. However, I'd like to keep in the deck Tezzeret/Time Vault/Voltaic Key for an alt. win condition because of how well Tezzeret combos with Mycosynth Lattice. So here's a bit of a different approach to this deck.
I figured I would try to put a bit more focus in the deck, focusing more on the Lattice + Null Rod lock as it is very powerful. But I love the fact that this deck can have more than just one or two ways to win. There are a number of ways it can win.
If there are any suggestions you guys may have, please leave your posts.
Thank you.

I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that the reason you think it doesn't work doesn't actually make it not work.
