What is MUD I've heard mentions of this deck, what is it? What does it play?

Mud is an older Workshop-type deck that relied on Welder. It's closer to what would be called "Workshop Aggro" these days. It gives up a lot of the lock components of Stax for efficient artifact creatures like Juggernaut. It also frequently includes some draw accelerating artifacts like Memory Jar.

Metalworker was a defining card for the early versions, yes. It slowly got phased out over time once people realized Metalworker encouraged you to not play good stuff on turn 1, thereby artificially slowing the deck.
