So I'm going to a vintage tournament next month, and I am totally in love with Doomsday. It's unsettling. So i want to play it. Here is what I'm working with right now.
The sideboard is a bit scattered because the meta is entirely unknown. I'm expecting a variety of netdecks and homebrews. It's a proxy tourney; decks will be fully powered.
Now I'm sure you're all wondering why there is only one gush and no fastbond. The answer is because I really don't like the engine and think it is overrated. However, I am considering siding out the wheel of fortune in favor of a second gush, since it's great for drawing into your deck remnants after doomsday. Wheel is fun but I'm not sure it's the best use of space.
My main question is this: how much stax hate do you think should be maindecked if I'm going into an unknown meta? I don't want to dilute the deck with too much hate, but I need enough to have game against stax game 1. Should I consider Sol Ring to help me play around the sphere effects? It was in before but I replaced it with the Ruby.
Secondly, Any suggestions? The core of the deck is pretty well set, there's just 2-3 slots I'm playing around with. (namely wheel and the steel sabotage and spell pierce slots. I'm not sure how many sabotages is a good idea, or if maybe I should run some thoughtsiezes or duress maindeck.
How is Timetwister working out for you? It seems good against Dredge decks, but otherwise giving your opponent 7 cards just seems too risky.
You may want to consider running Flusterstorm in the event of facing opposing Flusterstorms, which are common in Vintage.
Also, moved to Ritual-Based Combo Decks.
Thanks for moving it. I'd meant to put it that sub-forum.
The Twister has proven to be pretty good actually, you can do crazy things with it after casting doomsday. I've used it to recur the doomsday in my yard and tendrils kill with storm counts approaching 20 after casting doomsday twice. And occasionally the deck will go off like Long after a draw7. But it can be risky. I'm not totally sold on it, but i think it has, on the whole, been more helpful than harmful.
Flusterstorm is a good idea, i might swap the spell pierces for flusterstorms.
