I'm basically thinking out loud here, but hopefully this idea has some potential.
As others have noted, the interaction between Empty the Warrens and Shared Discovery seems really interesting. Empty the Warrens can be a kill condition all on its own, and with the help of a lotus, Ancient Tomb, tier 2 artifact mana, or a handfull'o'mox, activates Shared Discovery right out of the gate.
Since I'm thinking about running a playset of the Warrens, it makes sense to go for a storm kill. Since I'm thinking about running a playset of Shared Discovery, I want to maximize my creature base to avoid having it sit as a dead card.
The only creature-based storm deck I can think of off the top of my head would be a hide tide - cloud of fairies - snap combo deck. But perhaps blended with some fish-type creature disruption to increase resliency and keep Shared Discovery active. Spellstutter Sprite seems like a good fishy addition, since it compliments the counterspell plan while also fueling Shared Discovery and benefiting from Cloud of Fairies.
So, with that in mind, here's what I've come up with so far.
What I'm going for is a turn 3-4 combo, slower than the Team Meandeck high tide deck of a few years ago, protected by typical fish disruption until then. Ideally, you'd either get an early Empty the Warrens or delay for the first few turns, building up to having some creatures on the board, and then hopefully start to go off. Additional Warrens while going off might keep Discovery fueled while Snap-Cloud does its thing.
I could see making the deck more draw-dedicated, perhaps by adding medidate/wheel/twister and cutting shaman. But, ideally, even a fizzled attempt to go off will leave you with a board full of 1/1s, like Elfball, and then you can aggro for a few turns to win.
Any suggestions, thoughts, improvements? I know I'm not the only one tinkering with Discovery and Warrens.
Have you considered Kobolds for the Shared Discovery interaction? I've run them in a BG shell with tutors, rituals, and {Glimpse of Nature} to power out a turn 4-5 {Tendrils of Despair}, but a UR shell with {Shared Discovery} and {Empty the Warrens} to complement the {Skullclamp} engine could be very effective. And with good fixing and duals, you could still play the Glimpse for added draw. Just a thought.
Elves! is another good place for this card, although I'm not sure adding Blue will make it any faster or more resilient.
Wouldn't you rather focus on making one Empty the Warrens hit 10+ dudes as opposed to drawing 3 with a smaller one?
Well one is supposed to help with the other. I mean, ideally what you're doing is something like this. Assume you are able to assemble at least two lands, an empty the warrens, snap, high tide, and cloud of faeries. A god draw on turn 1, not super unlikely in the first part of the game though.
T1 : Volc Island (maybe an artifact accellerant)
T2 or so :
High Tide,
Cloud of Faeries, (tap 1xR, 3xU),
snap, (tap 2xR, 5xU),
re-play Cloud of Faeries, (tap 2xR 7xU),
Empty the Warrens at Storm 5, (1xR, 4xU floating)....
Then use your blue draw spells, including to hopefully keep going as long as possible. If you have more draw you can potentially hit another Empty the Warrens for even more critters.
Even if you only draw some artifact mana it should be easy to Empty for at least Storm 2 or 3 by turn 2 or so, turning on all of your Shared Discoveries and making it easier to assemble the rest of the combo.
an interesting card to consider would be the common kicker guy from zendikar that kicks for +1/0 and haste..., maybe 2 is all you would need, but he'd wreck face in a deck like this.
