Generally, I would opt for Duress, because if you're playing Bob + FOW etc. You're already killing yourself a lot.
However, depending on the meta, it is nice to be able to get rid of their creatures as well. You have to see how much pain you can give yourself and still be able to take some from your opponent without taking too much risk of giving your opponent a one turn faster kill.
If you can't decide, try 2 of each, or 3 Duress + 1 Thoughtseize etc.
I completely agree on this matter! Duress effects are just too good these days, and I'm a huge fan of Thoughtseize so either way making room for 4 will improve the control aspect.

Hi there, long time... I just wanted to let you know that I'm currently playing a different version of the deck, and I have to tell you it works amazingly faster than the previous one...
It looks like this (I don't own P9, so bare with me on that)
Here's a complete build of the deck ShaneMora "namesake" comes from the founder of this archtype who started building around Mystic Remora the common from Ice age.
For new players interested in this build and Mystic Remora he're my thoughts and comments:,
For 1 Blue you get a enchantment that in most cases replace's itself or delays your opp from doing much of anything for the sake you don't gain card advantage. The simple fact is Remora will give you the time needed for mana placement/and or huge card tempo pending on your match-up.
I now have had the chance to build and test this deck, and believe if the pilot has keen foresight and ofcourse is a season'd player the build will show them some strong results.
Coming soon is my match-up reports....

I really like Mystic Remora, I think that it's a powerful card indeed... I'll give it a test...
About the length of the games, it really depends on the decks you are playing, combo decks usually go off turn 1-3 and control decks usually 6-7 I think...
I've jumped over to this side of the bandwagon these days. Since the restriction of Thirst for Knowledge, my previous deck of choice (Control Slaver) is pretty much out of the picture for serious competitive vintage play. So I figured I would try something new. I'm not really a combo player, and I decided that I definitely would not play vault/key.dec as I'm kind of opposed to it being so ridiculously good.
I don't have a list of what I currently play, but I does include 3x Repeal, 3x Mystic Remora, full set of Dark Confidant and Mana Drains ++ I like how it plays out and building for the storm. But my time with the deck is limited at the moment. If this doesn't work out, I'll revert to the Neo-Grow deck I've been developing lately.
I added some Q&A in the first post on this thead, and I had some wonderful results while playing this the other night. I figured since it has been dormat for awhile I might as well shock the group by putting it togther again.
me VS Tezz 2-0
I just kept my buddy at bay with the counter control {he was duressing key peices though} until I ofcourse pulled off the late game WILLs. Overall the matchup I feel was in my favor from the start, and it didn't show me any signs of true strength throughout our matchup.
I have notes on the one, but I'll just say in my flavor I feel so it's not really worth commenting.
me VS Steel City Vault 2-1
Game one I was hosed from the start, but I didn't keep the optimal hand to go first {I won the flip} so in retrospect I deserve to lose it.
Game 2 I was sure to keep a game with GY hate, and I was lucky enough to only go down to 6 to get it. I ended up Ravenous trapping him through mid turn taking all hopes away {only had to force once}. From there he scooped.
Game 3 was a total joke having 2 Forces in hand with a recall {the rest I can't remember}, and I won after a counter war leaving him on the top draw. I pushed out my GY hate and took a late game WIN. He never had a chance to activate the Vault one time...I made a funny, because it would have taken only once. There was to much pounce to maintain his board.
I'll do some more test games later, but I must say I was happy with how my games went. I do miss the old days!

I have a question for you that I can't seem to solve by myself or playtesting...
If you had 4 slots for Duress/Thoughtseize, what would you choose and why?
