Any new developments in the last few months? I notice there's a lot of difference between SBs, even with extremely similar MDs. Is there a consensus SB for this build yet?

I hear ya, and it's sad that one of the strongest decks being played right now {winning damn lotus ect}...........doesn't have any followers on this site:facepalm:.
Now I have seen some changes from the chicago winners maindeck/SB, and jeff even posted he had to much ichorid hate, and the flux I believe could be dropped down to 3.
When my 2 other Stifles arrive here soon I'm going to rehaul the whole deck and try to maindeck 4. I'm not out to give a mules end about storm or other triggered effects. I've been playing way to long to hear someone tell me they'll just get duress'd.......I want to make sure they don't have a land to duress me with. Just a project I'll be posting soon.
What I would like to add is my BuG deck is on hold right now after pulling a mini GOLDBERG {you can almost hear his theme music lol} going 12-1, and yes I play against the big guys {tezz, TPS, GRIMLONG, Noblefish, MurderStax......no I Murdered stax lol}
I really like this deck, and I've been working on it ever since GLIX {The respected former vintage mod} posted a simular deck well over a year ago.

I like that counter fairey, but the Predator is beyound good seeing he's a carpet cleaner sweeping the board of opposing arts.
The Trygon also gives you a swift kick to any stax player with a grin on his face prematch.
I've been a faithful fan of the Trygon Predator since his stock was printed, and if you check some of ther other TUNA decks out there.........his stock is raising.
Sold on Clinque for if only one {reason} because of lastnights game!
My opp has me locked and I'm awaiting his storm to arrive.
He has his 10 spells, and I flash out the Clinque.........he bottoms the the tendrils, draws a land, and I win.
I am just kidding. Not really though. I hate the card.
I do find Trygon Predator to be brutal against me since I am a stax player. However, I wonder if it's really that good for fish decks. It's 3 casting cost and against deck's like Stax, sphere of resistance makes it really hard to cast, plus it's two colors.
It does have a few things going for it. It is U/ and it can be pitched to Force of Will. It gets around Chalice of the Void set to two, it can fly and is a 2/3.
I know you hate this damn fairey bud lol!
Could we make a few cuts to drop the fairey altogether, and squeeze in the Avenmind Censor {is white possible without going NOBLE}?

Well in my (albeit somewhat limited) testing, I've found both Trygon Predator and Clique to be pretty good.
Predator destroys STAX, but is also quite handy against opposing Moxen, Mana Crypt/Vaults, Time Vault/ Voltaic Key, and even SDT to force the opponent to bounce it back up every turn.
Clique is pretty good as well for disarming your opponent's hand. I need to test more with this one though.

Yeeh, that seems awful... especially since this deck doesn't play white (BuGa? ;)). I really like Clique and Trygon. The 3CC seems to benefit them more than it does draw them back.

It was a horrible idea, and yeah the Trygon+Clinque are what they're.....I'm keeping them in.
Now to the topic of stifle. There has been several bug builds that have gone to the 4 deep slot with them. I'm for the idea, and not for the storm fear, but for a total tempo shift at sneeky speed {fetches, other ect}.
I've also tossed in one shadow of doubt in SB, and even as a sole copy has been very productive against some of my matchups games 2-3.
What's the house opinion on stifle MD? and why?
S.M.
Hm, Stifle does seem like a good option to me since it's never a dead card and that paired up with Daze and Wasteland should give us massive tempo advantage.
I might cut Null Rods for them, but that's only because they never work well for me and I'm insane.
I don't think we can cut the rods bud:isthatso:, but your thoughts on stifle are Valid........they're never a dead card, and with the whole trilogy of Sweetwaste/Daze/stifle could prove viable.
I really like the idea of Stifle. Heck, against some decks, Stifle on the fetch can be an amazing tempo shift.
What are your thoughts on the different counter-heavy versions of these decks, versus the midrange (seemingly the list that won the lotus) and the Dark Rit lists? There are so many versions, it's seems hard to separate them all and figure out whats really the best.
Oh, and I'm sincerely considering cutting Trygon Predator. I know he's good. I love him like my son, lol. However, in the decks he's good against, he never lands. I played nearly 20 games of Vintage yesterday, and I was able to play Trygon Predator 1 time. The only time I played him, he was of no consequence to game state. Thoughts?
Yeah, the problem with that... is he's not, lol. Like I said, landed once in 20 games, and didn't make a difference when he did.
The problem with your statement is it doesn't make much sense. Predator is really good against STAX, and if you cast it it will always resolve there.
How many times did you cast Trygon Predator in your games?
And if they're so scared about losing their Moxen that they need to use FoW + another card, you say that's fine and proceed to beat face with Goyf.
See I can understand someone like case.....well kinda. He hates the CliqFaiery, and I don't know why he does, but that creature is a creature you can toy around with.....trygon Predator isn't one of those creatures.
You can pitch to a force
Cast pretty easly
Destroy board tempo {even if it's a mox.......it's 250 down the drain}
Now if you're not seeing him hit play as often as you like then main 4, or Mully down as I've down dozens of times.
See that's the best part about this game! Members all have their opinions on which cards are good {FLUX lol.......what I had to:D} and which ones suck. But the one thing to never forget while you're playing someone else's archtype is to understand why they chose the cards they did and understand the "WHY"........or they wouldn't be in the MD.
For that matter if you attempted to cast the Predator 20 times, and he hits the board only 2 times.......but he's getting counter 16 out of those times {follow}, then he's doing his job with just knowing you have them main.
Now if you want to view a deck that's pretty fun, and oh yes competitive then check out the develope area {Vintage} of this website and VIEW DarkTheft. Cutpurses are main, the deck is rather smooth while delivering the BOOT.

Yeah, I definitely see your point. It just got to the point of annoyance, and probably redirected it at the card, instead of the caster, lol.

I know this is just a meta thing, but I've done some changes from Jeff's build.
my new SB is just more consistant with my matche ups.
Extripate has beed deadly of late against ANT, TeZZ, and UWGNoble. Please know that this isn't a overkill, because I don't even bring them in against Ichorid.........haven't had to yet :grin3:.
So, -1 Tormod's Crypt & -2 Pithing Needle and +3 Extirpate? Seems good, especially against crap like Oath. Turn 1 Mox Jet, Sea, Duress targeting Oath, Extirpate. Oath scoops. When it happens, it's freaking awesome.

I pulled out the Vendilion {even for just a short time} to test Cosi's Trickster. I had some pretty good games, it's not the same as for what the Vendilion brings to the table.......but that little one drop was always a 3/3 with race promise taking in what Goyf is already going to do.
It was interesting never-the-less, and I was wondering if this new creature has what it takes to be a Force of Will Target?.....counter him I get my rod online, don't and he pounds you.
Here's the the lastest victory BuG grabbed! Just a few SB changes and ofcourse the use of Vendilion was key to its victory with what I had the chance to hear about from a friend. I'm still kind of holding on to my old build as of late, but I'm going to adjust my deck and do some testing later this week. I'm just glad BuG took another victory placing it even higher on my decks of choice!
Until next time;
S.M.
Don't get me wrong, playing Dredge is one of my guilty pleasures, along with eating chunky monkey ice cream and watching my Gilmore Girls DVDs in my underpants, but it's pretty much, in my opinion, the very last deck that I'd want anyone to start a career in Vintage with.
I did bring the full heat on you, and I have almost 4-6 months of testing and EX playing this deck. I didn't even bother testing anything in that time period....BuG will forever be my fav with regards to the TUNA builds.....if you're still thirsty so to speak I have alot more to serve you young apprentice;).
S.M.
I removed the 3 spellstutter sprites for 2 Spell pierce and 1 Thada. I also removed a basic forest for a bayou. The sb changes I made were I replaced the krosan grips with Nature's Claim and as the original one was missing a card, I added in a crypt to have more hate against dredge.
The main reason I removed the sprites is I didn't feel like they did enough later in the game, whereas Spell Pierce is an excellent spell against all sizes of opposing cards. I also put in a thada just to try her out, see if she is good enough. I changed the Grips for Claims because I was expecting a good staxx showing and just because it seems better.
This is my report based mostly on memory, as I didn't take notes.
Round 1 vs. Painters Servant
Game one I keep a reasonably agressive 7 that has a first turn thoughsieze. I look and see that he's playing painter's servant. I hit him a few times, he tinkers for a Colossus and I manage to flip diabolic edict off of bob and he scoops.
Game 2 was very fun for me. I turn 1 lotus in to thada and play a wasteland. He plays a land, I take his grindstone, next turn I take painter and name red (so he can't blast either). He timetwisters for an answer and fines none, so I mill him out.
1-0
Round 2 vs. UGW fish.
Game 1 I keep a 1 lander with thoughtsieze, goyf, bob, vamp and a few other cards. I keep expecting to seize him, vamp for a lotus or other such mana source and play bob and draw in to lands. unfortunately for me, when I seize him, I see strip mine, wasteland and a few other things. I can't take either land denial land, and take something inconsiquentional, as he wastes my land, strips my next one, and from there I just die to an attacking aven mindsencor.
Game 2 starts of well, I turn 1 clique off of lotus and see 2 plateus and a hand full of gw cards. I take his path and play a wasteland. I keep swinging, wasting both of his lands. eventually he finds a swords before I find a force and stabilizes at 5. This is the game where my lack of basic forest bite me. I fetch up a trop to play my first goyf, and he wastes the trop. I can't get my second goyf out until he has a commanding board position and die.
1-1
Round 3 BG darkdepths
Game 1 I fetch, double thoughtsieze and bob after a lotus. After that I play a second bob and the game begins to go south. I start losing alot of life of of both bobs and he gets depths hexmage in to play. Fortunately for me, he dosn't understand the wasteland dd interaction and I vamp for a waste after a bob trigger. once I play the waste land, and prevent his dd I begin killing him. I get down to 4 off of confidants bring him to 7, and time walk with 7 damage on the board, he concedes before seeing if I die to confidants, I didn't check to see if I would.
Game 2 this was pretty simple. I turn 1 thought sieze and take 1 of his 2 goyfs. Then I force his goyf. He has nothing but lands for the rest of the game and I kill him with bob then goyf
2-1
Round 4 vs. Rich Shay with Oath
Rich is a grad student at my school, so I've drafted with him a few times, and he was the one that told me about this vintage tournament. He has his own report at themanadrain, I would recommend checking it out.
Game 1: I know he has vault key in his deck, so I keep my hand that allows a turn 2 thada to take it and race even if he gets a turn 2 oath. He gets a turn 2 oath and just never plays an island. Then his terrastadon wrecks my mana. I miss an oath trigger for me, but looking at my deck, it would not have mattered
Game 2: I mull to 5 and have a hand for wasteland, force, force, trop and a non blue card. He plays oath on turn 2 I force, he spell pierces, I lose shortly after
2-2
Round 5 vs. good artifact stuff?
I don't really know what deck this guy is playing, but one of my friends played him last round, so I know he has lots of artifacts and goblin welder.
Game 1 I double thoughtseize him, then clique him and that goes all the way.
Since I know he has artifacts I bring in my nature's claims.
Game 2. He keeps a pretty bad hand, and thoughtsieze away his force, then beat him down with bobs. I nearly die to my own bob, but I vamp after the first 1 for a land and beat him at 1.
Quarterfinals vs. RU Fish
I'm against another one of the guys I draft with he goes on the to the finals
Game 1 I land a turn 1 clique and take his recall. Unfortunately he gets a magus of the moon down on turn 3 and we start racing. He gets his fire before I get more basics, and I die after hitting him down to 10.
Game 2: He forces my turn 1 bitterblossom then I double thoughtseize him and beat him down with a very large goyf thanks to my tribal enchantment
Game 3:
He turn 1 goes land mox mox time walk. Turn 2 mox tinker, I say ok. I go for a diabolic edict, but he has the force, and I die.
3-3
I got 7th and a badlands for my trouble.
Overall I like the deck, most of my losses came to keeping poor hands. Especially against oath, I didn't have any counter magic in my opener, and game 2 I finally had some, but not enough. Furthermore, I realized how awkward the mana is and the need for a basic forest. Thada was excelent whenever she came out, but I don't think main is the right place for her. On the other hand, I always wanted to see a turn 1/2 bitterblossom, even thought I never saw any staxx deck. It's also amazing against fish. Also, due to the meta, there were only 3 decks I wanted null rod against, but I think them being in the sb would be fine for me at least. I'm going to keep messing around with this and see how more bitterblossoms and null rods in the side work.
