Here's the deck that's showing its face now {5th place, 7th place ect}, and I'm starting to peice this together.
Any comments are welcome, and I can provide the source if needed.
Looks like a plain and simple deck list. Im not sure why the deck splashes blue and not include Ancestral Recall tho.. I'd cut a Hymn for a Recall.
Also, I wouldn't feel too secure without the trusted Diabolic Edicts in the main in case of DC and IL.
I think the deck can afford to cut down 1 or 2 of its lands or mana sources. The deck only got 4x card that costs over 2cc which is the cutpurse and the rest are 2cc and 1cc + you got a full compliment of mox/lotus and Dark Rituals.
There was 3 Diabolic Edicts main'd {just forgot them in the post}, and I toyed around with this deck last night via marker and lands.
I don't understand why the recall isn't in here either, but in a few more games and I'll probably cut something to add it.
S.M.
To me, this is the ideal deck for Consultation. Lots of 4-ofs, including all of the win conditions. The reason it's not in Tezz or TPS is that they run 1-of their win conditions and are mostly highlander decks.
Why does the deck play the off-color Moxen? You can't really do anything with them, and you're not trying to accelerate into Mind Twist or anything. I don't see the purpose, so I'd cut those. It especially doesn't make sense since you're running all 4 Null Rods (I think I would cut at least 1 as well).
As everyone has noted, Recall should be in there somewhere.
Dimir Cutpurse vs Shadowmage Infiltrator is interesting. I guess it really depends on the meta. If there's a lot of Fish, Infiltrator would probably better because it can hold off guys with the 3 toughness, and can get in for a card through non-black guys. If there's not too much Fish, Cutpurse is good because of the discard and extra power.

Glad to see this deck is getting some heat.
I'm posting right now to just address one comment, and it's to the member that shared Energy Flux isn't that great against staxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Now I don't want to flame {I really got to read your views on this since you just posted that without any backup to your statement}, but if you can just explain how you come to this conclusion then maybe I might see the light on that topic.
I run them in BuG, and I will repeat they MURDER staxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, so what's the difference with this deck other then the Flux comes out faster?
They drop half their hand {stax players},
there's no way to fight the {tangle} the flux causes during their upkeep, they lose board. Considering a strong stax deck can board in Rods........but chokes on flux's I just don't get that one.
Yep, S.M. is completely right.
Energy Flux is the sole reason my Ad Nauseam deck beats STAX.
Perhaps you've missed that they can't pay for it with Mishra's Workshop. Once you get Energy Flux out they might be able to save 2-3 of their artifacts the first turn, but then it'll go down to only 1 as they are forced to sacrifice their mana sources.
I've had a chance to use the cutpurse with result being like this;
They discard something useful like lets say a Delta, or mystic ect... they're at risk from losing all copies in their deck via Extripates maindeck. I know it seems a little harsh but bare with me, with them md the cutpurse's ability really made my bro ponder on which cards he was willing to drop.... some cards he surely paid the price when I used my early duress's/seize's!
So my verdict is Shadowmage was a killer creature for his day {notice how I said his day?} and the Dimir Cutpurse is the now. There were some situations that his effect became more taxin for my bro then I had picture it being before testing.....were the shadowmage it just a creature with a robe;).
My new version will stay in the bounds of this current build, but I do know this current one I started the post with surely needed some changes. So now that we're all back to this deck here's my current build open for the floor.
I think the deck looks a lot better now. Personally, I might have gone with 4 Duress, 4 Thoughtseize instead of the current cut. But this is just minor personal preferences. I don't think they make too much differences. With Cutpurse, Duress and Seize, you really got enough cover concerning hand-disrupting your opponent.
Only thing I miss now, is Necropotence, this card is just too good not to include. It can just randomly pop on turn one and spell (GG). Another Idea could be to add Life from the Loam as well to have some recurring Waste/Strips. This may be overkill tho.
Will the necro just doens't feel right because there's no combo in the deck, but I do like the life from the loam idea.........yep I'm sold that needs to be in here.
Playing right now, but will include it after our next {pearl}.

you might want to try Sensei's diving top. it helps to keep what you need coming to you a turn earlier and can chop some life loss from Dark confident.

I stand by Energy Flux not being great vs Stax. A lot of others have this same experience, for instance if you check out TMD people will say the same thing.

I was testing BuG last night on MWS and I played a match against STAX. Game 1 I lost and I sided in Energy Flux of course. Both times when I dropped it down he conceded within 2 turns.
This is how it always goes when I play Energy Flux in my experience.
What kind of Stax players are scooping to Energy Flux though? (No offense to whoever you were playing against). Had you already dropped a few creatures and had them on a fast clock so they were going to die anyway? Were they somehow not playing with Welders and tutors? Did they keep a very bad hand? Sorry for so many questions I'm just trying to figure out what they were thinking.
Energy Flux is terrible in the decks that I play compared to mass bounce, but maybe in a deck like this with a slower clock it's better.
Also I'm still not sure of the rationale of leaving Demonic Consultation out. 9/10 it's better than Vampiric Tutor in this deck, it puts the card in your hand at instant speed, does not cause card disadvantage, doesn't cost life, and you have multiple copies of everything you'd want to tutor for except Lotus. Also you don't need to worry about it removing your win conditions because you have so many beaters.
Both games in the turns after I played Flux his permanent count went from 6 to 2 to 1 or something like that. It's real hard for someone to do something against that :S
I think Flux gets better if you can prevent your opponent from leaving you too far behind on mana. If you shut down most of his mana source, then drop a Flux before he can pull himself back, your opponent will probably not be too happy to see Flux coming down against him. However, if you're on a one way ticket to game loss. And you're top deck sollution to turn the tides around is Flux, you might think that next year, you want a Rebuild or H-Recall for xmas instead.
I really like the debate, but again you have not given any reasons to believe your statement is solid.
So again let review {TMD is not important} just the facts for should do for this matter bud.
A solid {meaning VIntage STRONG} staxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx deck can board in RODs {we'll all agree on that one right?}, and truely doesn't really feel the pinch.
While if a flux hits {did you take the time to review the deck list that's posted here, and if you did then you must have noticed the MD is chalk full of "you can't do anything disruption"}
With that in mind a stax player drops his hand fast {check}
the flux requires a 2 upkeep {check}
How the hell can they keep their board {I'll let you uncheck that one}
......when they can't pay for it.
Now the bottom line!
Vintage pro's can see the flux murders stax...........the math is clean and simple {in a fun light to this topic is like a goblin player trying to swing with 5 creatures.....all while a Propaganda is on board....5 creatures down to 2.........5 artifacts down to 2}, and that bounce you speak of........probably means nothing in the end result {we're talking about staxxxx}........ or that's what jeff said I believe once he Boon'd 3 version in the 95 man tourney in chicago......with FLux being the main threat games 2-3.
I rest my comments on this topic, I tried.
So now has anyone put together a version, then this one that's posted yet?
pretty damn fun deck...

I agree with S.M., and D3@D I gotta say I completely disagree. I would much rather topdeck Energy Flux than Rebuild or Hurkyl's Recall.
What happens if you play Recall? They just play out their hand the next turn. You haven't accomplished anything.
However once you play Energy Flux their artifacts are gone and you don't have to deal with them again.

I'm not sure how this Rebuild/Recall thing would work in practice with a Fish deck. However, when playing Drain Tendrils or TPS or even Tez, you build up your hand, wait for an opening to play Rebuild/Recall then win.
With Flux, you have to wait a turn or two before you see the result, which may or may not spell GG for your opponent. But I see that Rebuild/Recall plan is a lot weaker when you're not playing combo. So, I will probably agree with you on that Flux > Rebuild.
I don't know if I agree. Energy Flux isn't as hard to deal with as people think. We have soo much mana at our disposal that I would prefer to see an Energy Flux than I would prefer to see a rebuild. For example:
My board is:
[CARD]
Mox Emerald
Mox Ruby
Mox Jet
Mana Crypt
Sol Ring
Sphere of Resistance
Smokestack
Crucible of Worlds
Tangle Wire
Mishra's Workshop
Ancient Tomb
City of Traitors
Volcanic Island[/CARD]
Regardless of what is on your board, I can pay to keep stack alive, keep you tapped down, etc.
I think before we get ahead of ourselves on this conversation, we should preface that Energy Flux vs. Rebuild is situational.
