Hey everyone. This is my decklist for T1. I can't tell you my metagame as I'm going to my first tourney tomorrow, but let me know if there's any better cards I could be using, maybe how to sideboard (plus this, minus this vs. Oath)... anything would be appreciated, really.
I played against a guy that used Pygmy Hippo in his deck and he really hosed some decks that use the end of turn ability. If you are playing blue/green, you may want to give this card a try in place of Flying men.
I know it may be a stretch on the C.C. but trygon predator would probly be realy good in a type 1 U/G fish deck. A never ending naturalize owns 8/10 type 1 players
I've seen a number of WTF decks have been using the predator. I have mixed feelings about it. It costs a lot, welder weakens it, and is pretty useless in a some matchups (ichorid, goblins, most mirror, nearly all combo decks, etc). The only time I've seen the predator be really useful is in a WTF mirror where one side is dependent on umezawa's jitte (before it has counters) or aether vial, or if by some miracle it manages to come into play before Oath of Druids does (which is game).
I was thinking about the predator, yes. I think a lot of people are playing Tendrils decks, there's a bad Oath build, and maybe a dragon. Also a fully powered stax.
Should I cut the root mazes for three maindeck stifles?
Yes, unless your meta dictates otherwise. Stifle is more potent against combo, and maze only is good against combo and control, and is counter-productive against Ichorid and Stax.
Not sure about the predator. It does have a very powerful ability, and pitches to will, but I would say no because hes a drain target in an otherwise un-drainable deck, he costs 3 making him quite slow, and he simply doesn't do enough, imo.
Also, you should look into some sort of means by which to not roll over and die to SSS. Drake and chains just won't cut it anymore with that guy running aground.
Alright, my first tournament went quite well... All the good players were absent as they were going to Grand Prix: Toronto. I played three matches, went 2-1, and made top four. There were only 8 people, I played other poor players, and got $10 store credit. Not bad.
Instead of Tormod's Crypt, why not try Pithing Needle. Bring it in against welder based decks, especially if youre going to run the trygon predator.
Also, i heavily agree on the use of basics, it should probably be 1 forest, 2 islands, with the fetches split between heaths and strands/deltas
I would probably consider cutting the Mishra's Factories for the basics and fetches, so your manabase would look something like this:
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
3 Flooded Strand/Delta
3 Windswept Heath
2 Forest
3 Island
4 Tropical Island
Mox Emerald
Mox Sapphire
Black Lotus
you could also sub out the 6th fetch for a lotus petal or an off color mox, etc.
On to your spells: with the metagame of today, id consider flip-flopping the extracts for the stifles. Stifle hits EVERY deck, except those not running fetchlands (umm...stax i guess, but stax has a bunch of other good ones to hit) Stifles absolutely wreck combo, since they cant storm or in some cases, replicate (dragon sometimes runs Pyromatics as a wish target)
I would probably also switch your chain of vapor in the board to a different CC bounce spell, maybe a rushing river, or a rebuild?
other than that, i like the deck, it seems to have a lot of potential in today's meta.
good luck!

4 Force of Will
4 Extract

3 Null Rod
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
4 Wild Mongrel
4 Ninja of the Deep Hours
4 Flying Men
3 Basking Rootwalla
4 Energy Flux
4 Stifle
4 Tormod's Crypt
2 Chain of Vapor
1 Gilded Drake
I have four Ninjas in there because they're usually my MVPs, and I like to draw two in a game.
So... how good is this? I have a good matchup against Dragon. The Root Maze hoses their combo.
So, what do you think?
Cut breedint pool and add more basics. Basics are very important to not completely rolling to stax and the like.
In your sb, crypt crosses roads with rod. I would cut them for something else.

This is what I ran.
4 Wasteland
4 Mishra's Factory
4 Windswept Heath
4 Tropical Island
1 Forest
1 Island (will become breeding pool)
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Black Lotus
4 Force of Will
4 Extract
3 Daze
3 Null Rod
1 Misdirection
1 Chain of Vapor
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
4 Wild Mongrel
3 Ninja of the Deep Hours
3 Flying Men
3 Basking Rootwalla
3 Rootwater Thief
3 Stifle
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Root Maze
1 Gilded Drake
1 Chain of Vapor
One of the MvPs was definitely the Rootwater thief, he worked amazingly against the non-combo decks that I played (good players in Toronto).
