I realize the deck doesn't "feel vintage" but BUG of BUGr Fish with deathrites, bobs, decays and counters are so strong against the bulk of this combo based league, I am shocked no one has played it. Williams played a 4c standstill deck which has some of the same elements and he was clearly thinking along those lines, but his deck's mana is much worse and frankly I like bob more than standstill most of the time. Am I crazy?
no you aint crazy, preach it Limbo, bug fish is an amazing deck, its 1 of the hardest decks to beat in the format & i'd say its rite up there w/ the other big bad wolfs in vintage: oath, mud & dredge
It is pretty tough for MUD to deal with, and has a solid place in the better decks in the format. Not sure why noone is running it, especially given the presence of MUD with Pikula (and Froelich in season 2).
It's possible it doesn't face up well against Blue belcher?
The deck is very strong but the issue is that piloting it is very difficult, and requires a different skill-set than the traditional blue pilots who grew up p[laying mana drain control. There are lots of difficult decision trees that must be factored in, while still having the ability to randomly lose to flipping force of will to bob. The most recent bug fish lists have eschewed bob for Dig through time, and have replaced goyf with Tasigur. With rituals being at their lowest point in vintage history, it would make sense to pilot bug fish to beat up on the fair decks as well as the usual suspects.
As for blue belcher, any deck with counter magic and the threat of discard can run through it with ease.
