Having recently come into a set of mana drains, I am interested in developing a decklist to be as competitive as possible without having access to very expensive vintage cards (cards much more than $100).
Cards I have:
Mana drain x4
Force of Will x4
Full set of duals
Mix of fetches, including 4 polluted delta
Mix of legacy staples and vintage staples (yawg will etc.)
Cards I do not have:
Any power 9
tabernacle, bazaar, workshop
vault, candle, LED
any of the portal staples (seal, recruiter, etc.)
Jace
I know drain slaver is an established archetype (or used to be), but am not sure the feasibility of running such a list without power/high $$$ cards. Any thoughts/suggestions about that archetype or others would be appreciated.
Really, I don't think you want to up the curve of most decks with the intention of resolving a mana drain. You're counting on so many things going right. Having your drain, having your expensive card, not getting either countered or thoughtseized, not getting your lands disrupted... countering something big. Lots of things have to go your way.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Thanks for the tips all...will start brewing. Tezz does seem like a more budget-friendly alternative planeswalker that could go with either helm or grim monolith.
I haven't played High Tide decks before, but I'd always been under the impression that they need blue mana more than colorless?
They run intuition and time spiral. And you it's not like mana drain gives you a million mana. You'll usually be countering a 2 drop. On a lucky day you'll counter a FoW.

Thanks!
You could also maybe run some kind of blue/black Leyline of the Void - Helm of Obedience deck.

Vintage High Tide would probably love a mana-drain. I know that the deck was a reasonable choice in legacy for a while, so go for it!
I'd start by viewing the legacy lists, adding what vintage staples/power you will, and then brew from there.
