im too lazy to collect all spoilers this time around, but i think "learn" is an interesting mechanic especially for limited, since you have everything in the sb
I agree that it'll be fun and interesting for limited, but nothing I see that would make the cut for cube. I dont think I'd want to have the lesson cards to take slots or be as extras for cube, so it just becomes a rummage.
Yeah I don't really think I'll be trying to make the Lesson theme work in the cube, which means most of the cards will probably be bad. It is an interesting idea though. Only thing that looks interesting so far is Environmental Sciences if you want another colorless Skittering Surveyor variant but would rather have a 1 mana discount than you would a small body.
Pest Summoning might be a hint we get some useful lessons down the road that are cubable on their own, probably mostly in UB. i wouldnt be too surprised by a lesson in countermagic

I don't think so. I think the only way this mechanic could be interesting is, if you don't draft the lessons, but simply offer drafters to choose a lesson of their choice after drafting a learning card.
thats not an option for me. you would have to store the lessons seperately and i think they shouldve been "earned" by drafting.
teach already has a fail safe mechanic, so thats not an issue. but i guess well have to see what we actually got in the end.
It's definitely expensive, but it's free and definitely better than the random 1 life on the gain lands. My problem is, that it's only going to be half a cycle and I dislike giving some guilds a random advantage. IDK when the cycle will be completed.

Completely agree here. When the full cycle is released they'll likely go in.
This is interesting. Its very scary to block, and in aggressive colors. I just dont know if its enough.
Also, on the 3/3 for 3, we have them in green and white, and near enough in red (like wojek bodyguard), so having be multi colored doesnt excite me unless I can really get the gy thing going.
yah youre right, we already have a critical amount of 333s, its still above the average curve of 2/2 and 2/3, so it got my attention. i really dont know hiw those colors will interact with the gy. only red has a tiny amount of interaction available.
so probably unineresting in the end.
im not too hot on your 2/2 either. first strike is strong, but i completely abandonded a spells matters theme by now.
I like that fact that boros has something else to it, that just cheap creatures and attacking. A little bit of spells matter theme is a refreshingly different approach.
I don't think that the "leaves the GY" theme is in any way feasable outside of this set.
The Lorehold Pledgemage has a similar role as Fault Riders. It's a offense/defense hybrid. It can attack freely most of the time, but with only 2 power it's not much of a threat. First Strike is at it's best on defense, especially with multiple first strikers or in combination with burn to bring down bigger foes. The big difference is that Lorehold Pledgemage needs open mana to block anything with 3 or more toughness, while Fault Riders can be used while tapped out. The problem with the raiders is, that they can open you up to a 2 for 1, but most of the time it doesn't need to be activated to pose a threat and when your opponent makes a stupid attack you usually know what's up and don't run into it. I think I like the Riders more and am not willing to give one of the highly contested multicolor spots to a weaker version of Fault Riders.
considering i did cut all the 3/3 first strikes for underperformung already, yeah dont think this guy makes the cut for me. it might open up an experimental archetype for builder that want to go new routes.
i also cut fault riders, even long before those.
i was wondering where is the difference, but this has flying. i guess it will replace Pestermite
mite has the upside of being a trick as well as it helps with countermana, but the toughness of 1 always bothered me. and that dude is just better at tapping things
meanwhile it seems all the hybrid lessons are tokenmakers of some sort. so rather meh
Im hesitant, because I really dislike 2 for 1s in my opponents favor. You can leave it up and wait until removal happens, but then you're really paying in tempo. And if you do it in combat, then damage doesnt happen, so no surprise pump spell. I feel like there's already cards to this effect that arent played.
Thats a nice ceiling. But the floor can just as easily be a turn 1 nothing, and turn 2 looter, turn 3 difficult choice. It also exiles, so any death triggers skip (doomed traveler).
I understand the appeal. I just think its another "t1: lanwar, t2 migratory greathorn" situation that will leave me wishing for the dream.
I personally don't play many fatties, that are seriously shrunk by making them 4/4. If used as a suprise combat trick, it's basically some kind of Feral Invocation, if you target a vanilla 2/2. It sure can be used against removal, but so can Village Rites, Fling or Perilous Research, none of which I would play just for that purpose.
I agree with MrEng1neer, that it's one of those cards that sounds great in theory, when you construct all the scenarios where it's great, but in practice I doubt it will be that amazing. I am of course open to be disproven, feel free to test it and share your results.
as its main appeal is in blue aggro, which i dont support, i will not run it.
i also dont run inspector as best synergy, so there is that.
if you dont get to tempoplay it, it has enough other applications to be an overall quite solid card.
its a skill intensive card though, which you might or might not want to includ for that reason.
(as it can prevent an attack for one turn. or the token can be bounced to get rid of. it also prevents deathtrigger as it exiles)
its definitely cubable.

seems also very reasonable. not sure how often things leave the gy, but a 3/3 for 3 is fine. why boros though
