Oh no. The way they are doing tribal looks *super* parasitic again. I hope the other mechanics make up for it. At least the dwarves have an equipment and vehicle thing going on, for instance.
One of my frequent drafters thought that Renegade Reaper, the 2/3 flier for 2B that self-mills 4 on ETB was worth thinking about.
I think that would be slightly better than Gorging Vulture, which is currently a fringe CUbe card.
A lot of people believe that snow mana will be a mechanic in the main Kaldheim set, which should be a great mechanic for us, since those cards are balanced for limited based on having limited snow lands available, whereas we can play all snow basics.
Only for the people willing to invest in the required set of snow lands, though. Even I balked on it in the end (for now) despite the crazy snow stuff from Modern Horizons.
Binding the Old Gods is definitely a powerful card and I'd run it over Putrefy for sure, but I'm not interested in something that is a generic removal/value card in my guild section if I can avoid it.
Behold the Multiverse will most likely replace Deep Analysis in my cube. It's instant speed and you can split the cost between two turns, which is awesome (even if you have to pay the Foretell cost during your turn).
Inga Rune-Eyes is kind of interesting as a Hill Giant with Scry 3, but that extra ability is real weird. It plays pretty well with either Feast of Succession or Slice and Dice and maybe has some upside in token/sacrifice decks.
Masked Vandal is the absolute cheapest Naturalize-on-a-body ever, albeit very conditional. If your green section has some graveyard synergy, this could be a good replacement for a more expensive version of this effect.
I am super excited for these ETBT Snow duals with basic land types (Glacial Floodplain, etc.). My CUbe already had a few cards that want snow mana plus two that count snow permanents, Skred and Abominable Treefolk, so it is nice to finally have decent snow duals. Also happy to finally have non-basics with land types for cards like Wild Nacatl and Kird Ape.
Giant's Amulet only gives hexproof while the creature is untapped, which is a lot worse than regular hexproof since it does nothing against instant speed removal/spells. Even if I'd still run Benthic Giant I wouldn't replace it with the amulet.
I liked Giant's Amulet in principle since even limited Hexproof is pretty nice as an option, it allows for stuff like artufact or equipment synergies, and its alternative cost version is decently cost-effective. Blue is really tight but it's the kind of thing for which I might well try to make room.
Masked Vandal is also definitely interesting, as are Koll and Inga. But I am undecided on the latter two in particular.
2U Sorcery
Exile target artifact or creature. Its controller creates a 1/1 blue Bird token with flying.
Foretell U
Pros
- Flexible removal to hit creature or artifact
- Exile hoses reanimation or death triggers
- 1/1 toke is smaller than Beast Within/Generous Gift's 3/3
Undecided
Foretell - does this really do anything for us? If it's the only foretell card in your cube, they know what it is, even face down. Is it really worth taking two turns to cast our removal?
Ravenform seems to me to be not good enough. We already have Crib Swap, and no-one runs that.
This hits artifacts, but I don't think 3 mana sorcery speed is good enough. Fall from Favor already fills that niche, I think.
Behold the Multiverse is close, but I don't think this pushes out Deep Analysis, for me at least. Being able to discard Analysis to loot has just proven to be so good, and I think it is important for most blue decks to have mana open on turn 2. I don't disagree that the card seems the best 3u draw 2 scry 2 thus far, I just don't think I particularly need this effect.
Masked Vandal I like, I like the Changeling mechanic, and we have been getting more tribal support, lately. Windrider Wizard and Merchant Raiders, for instance. Nifty little card, looking for a cut.
I like Binding of the Old Gods, but I'm not sure if I like it more than Putrefy. I may cut Leyline Prowler for it, giving a couple fat tramplers deathtouch seems cool, and that's the worst chapter of the saga I think. Ramping and removing are both things Golgari wants to be doing anyways, and the 4 drop is often where you either drop a 5 drop or ramp into your big boys. Will probably test.
I don't like the Boros equipment cards, powerlevel-wise. I think regular burn/tokens is better. I do think they're fun designs, tho, and maybe I will shift Boros to be more equipment/aura-heavy. As of right now I just don't think it's quite there yet (without re-adding Loxoodon Warhammer/Skullclamp).
Sarulf's Packmate looks like it's probably strong in Kaldheim limited, like Joraga Visionary in ZNR. Probably too weak for us, though.
Ravenform seems to me to be not good enough. We already have Crib Swap, and no-one runs that.

If it only hit creatures like Crib Swap and Fall from Favor, I'd agree. As is, Pongify, Rapid Hybridization, and Reality Shift are all cheaper removal in that vein. But being able to hit artifacts is pretty useful. A lot of people don't want to run dedicated artifact removal because it's a dead card if the opponent doesn't have an artifact. Running a flexible card that can deal with either artifacts or creatures has to be worth something. But I do agree on sorcery speed being weak - why is it that white and green get instant speed but blue, the color of flash, doesn't even when hitting less targets?
Foretell - does this really do anything for us? If it's the only foretell card in your cube, they know what it is, even face down. Is it really worth taking two turns to cast our removal?
Behold the multiverse is another sweet option to add, and we have to discover all the spoilers yet. At least, is an interesting mechanic that offers choices in a tribal set, something that usually is not good enough for cubes. Who knows, but I like both, Behold and Ravenform. If we run Abrade, Goblin Cratermaker, Beast Within or Feed the Swarm... This could be another good addition.
There are probably a lot of games where you have 2 mana, no plays, and ravenform becomes a 1 mana version of itself that your opponent is able to try and play around. Being able to bank the 2 mana whenever you have a spare moment is an upside that I can't measure from here, but is probably a very big deal.
Vega, the Watcher actually has a surprising amount of hits in UW: Ephemerate, Battle Screech, Deep Analysis, Riftwing Cloudskate are pretty common cards and foretell is looking base UW. There's probably some really easy jeskai build for it since red has a bunch of flashback and cascade as well as some rebound and impulse draw. Wind Drake also isn't the worst floor. Probably not worth the guild slot unless you are trying something unusual though.
Replicating Ring is a neat mana rock if you play/support decks using X spells as a wincon.
Spirit Blade is interesting to me. Obviously it's great in pants, but it has some other uses without as much support. It gets back Pacifisms in W, Narcolepsys and Control Magics in U, in RW it gets back Lust for War/Frenzied Fugue (on top of a +2/+2 aura being alright in aggro), and in graveyard style decks it can be milled/discarded and later get back Animate Dead/Dance of the Dead/negative auras.
Blizzard Fight being essentially an unfair fight with +1/+0 and indestructible for the turn for 1 mana is pretty ridiculous if you play snow basics.
Firja, Judge of Valor might have been worth testing if it was mono B, but it's BW for some reason.
This is the best Cancel-with-upside change my mind.
Let me try: if you want a 3cmc counter you're probably playing 2cmc counters, so foretelling is incredibly awkward since you want to represent or play your 2cmc counter magic. Additionally if you foretell you not only are paying 4 mana for a Cancel but your opponent also probably knows about it and can play around it.
I think I may have to change to snow basics since there are an increasing number of really nice cards that benefit greatly from snow.
The latest one being Spirit of the Aldergard that basically becomes a X/4 for 4 that searches for a land to your hand and has power equal to the number of basic lands that you control, plus the occasional other snow permanent.
I agree with this and what Purplemurasaki mentioned. If you could pay the 2 colourless at instant speed, I think this would be a lot better. If your hand has this card and a 2 mana counterspell on turn 2, you could have played this facedown and saved a mana if the opponent did nothing.
I am considering snow lands, and wish they had been included in the bundle.
If you can trigger on t3 you're already getting a great rate, and if you can trigger it twice it's pretty bananas. But a terrible topdeck and not the easiest card in the world to actually trigger.
Worth noting he can trigger by casting one spell after him on the turn you play him.

I think he compares in some ways to Blood-Chin Rager, a card I run as a bear with menace that can also grant menace to approximately 20 other creatures in my cube (plus the incidental value with Mardu Woe-Reaper/Bramblewood Paragon). Obviously, if you jump through the hoops, this Berserker is bigger, but I'm not sure I like it any better. Might have to test it to see it in action.
Once again wizo has picked another random tribe out of a hat for w/b :sadge:

I don't know if Binding the Old Gods is better than Putrefy or Status/Statue, being a sorcery but with more effects.
Koll, the Forgemaster seems decent for boros equipments / auras.
Fetcheable dual lands at common, with Into the north, Farseek, Three Visits or Nature's Lore or Wood Elves.

Pretty cool card with a unique ability but it's a hard guild to break into.
The snow fight spell for G looks very promising if that's your jam.
Draft it on Cubetutor here, and CubeCobra here.
