ive been a fan of Ancestral Blade in some casual brews of mine. hardly a pass for me. equip 1 is where it makes or brakes.
Crusader of Odric def interesting as well, but vanilla fatties are outperformed these days i feel.
i can see myself runnin skinwing in t2.
Whats the nastiest thing we could do with Argivian Restoration?
Interesting. Abrade is good, but i dont know if it makes the cut (less need to kill artifacts in pauper). Clear Shot may finally displace Epic Confrontation for me.
What's the groups thoughts on Bone Picker? Morbid can be tricky to enable right away, but even at base, a 3 power flying deathtouch for 4cmc isnt horrible...

Yeah, there a number of interesting ones but nothing over the top really among the new reveals. I would imagine Bone Picker is pretty good and maybe it makes sense to steer black in a more Morbid direction anyway.
try to fit bone picker. i dont have a sac theme in black right now, but more and more powerful stuff comes along, so i might make the jump and add a small subtheme. morbid isnt a big problem in black any way, so it might fit right away. Conclave Naturalists also seem interesting to me as a 2nd Wickerbough Elder Everflowing Chalice is very nice, as its at least a cmc2 manastone with potential.
Golem-Skin Gauntlets is very nice for the uw artifacts archetype im runnin in t2
Abrade - Seems alright. It's probably the most maindeckable piece of red artifact destruction. Still, is having the option to destroy an artifact really better than being able to deal 3 damage to a player? Everflowing Chalice - My favourite manarock in other formats. I don't think this is any better than a signet here. Conclave Naturalists - Been waiting for a Indrik Stomphowler downshift for a while. Not particularly exciting, but when you gonna destroy stuff it will get the job done well. Bone Picker - Requires a little support, but it is cost efficient and the hard cast isn't unreasonable either. Generally something dying is one of the easiest conditions to meet. Cast Down - By far the best common of the set. It's the stapliest staple since legendary creatures aren't a thing at common. Heartless Pillage - It's a Mind Rot variant. Nothing remarkable.
Honourable mention: Oubliette - While not technically a downshift it was printed as a common in Arabian Nights so not many people really know about it's existence nor own one for that matter. While more or less being worse than Murder, it can deal with equipments which is something Black can't typically do. Also, worth mentioning that the phasing out wording means Oubliette circumvents command zone nonsense for the people who play that format.

There's no word in the goblin language for "strategy." Then again, there's no word in the goblin language for "word."

I guess I understand why they changed Oubliette but it seems weird to me to randomly make the card into an instant Commander staple.

The phase out template matches the original wording of the card more accurately than the exile wording. I want to see more phase out wording on white enchantments now; ignoring commander interactions, retriggering etbs feels bad.

i cant think of a lot of scenarios were alabaster mage is better than Lone Missionary
I agree with Humphrey01 here. You have to pay 4 mana to gain any life, be in position to attack (or defend well, but in a non atacking board stall this sits idle). Then you dont want to lose him as a lifelink source, so it becomes more like an enchantment. I think the 4 upfront and blinkable target of the Missionary is better in most cases.
I guess you are right. I was thinking of the dream scenario of giving your 4+ power guy lifelink, but I also just realised, that I don't really have any big white creatures. Outside of green I actually only have 7 creatures with a base power of 4 or greater total.
i have come to the conclusion that lifelink, especially on smaller bodies is kind of a trap. red will just burn the creature away, so youll never get any life.
thats why im back to missionary from testrunning Bishop's Soldier for some time. Faithbearer Paladin seems ok
Anyone have any thoughts on the Iron League Steed downshift? It seems like a not quite as good Slash Panther, but doesn't require shocking yourself, has an extra point of toughness, and can split itself into two bodies if you'd rather have that for some reason.

Its probably the best 4 mana haster, I guess? The competition's not real stiff and it benefits from being colorless when the rest almost exclusively require red. What is currently considered the top dog? Voldaren Duelist?

That's the best one I can think of, I'd rather have the Duelist in a Red deck, but the fact that the Iron League Steed goes into any deck is pretty sweet.
Iron League Steed seems borderline. There are plenty of cases were it is ok, but very few where it good fit over generic good cards. Fabricate means it can easily bump artifact counts to an active threshold for example Galvanic Blast and Cranial Plating. However most cubes don't support artifacts.
Argivian Restoration: Whatever.
Ancestral Blade: Decent 2 drop that leaves a Leonin Scimitar behind when it dies. Definitely cubeable.
Vedalken Infuser: Yeah not so much.
Skinwing: Why was this UC in MBS? Equip 6 is way too much.
Crusader of Odric: A white Scion of the Wild. Very solid for cubes with a swarm theme. Easy include for me personally.

Villagers of Estwald < Conclave Naturalists
Dauthi Slayer < Bone Picker
Last Gasp < Cast Down
Martyr's Soul < Crusader of Odric
none of the cuts was a shaky spot, but you only have so much slots, eh.

I think Alabaster Mage is also really interesting. Lifelink on the right creature is really strong and 2 mana for that ability isn't that much.
Will definitely try to find a spot for Ancestral Blade, Crusader of Odric, Bonepicker and Cast Down.
