Burning Prophet does actually trigger off the same set of spells (noncreature) as the prowess guys (more than thermo-alchemist). I guess the utility really comes down to how much you value repeated scry. It's a bit hard to evaluate how valuable it is when it's going to be happening on an inconsistent basis, but it's the sort of thing that seems potentially good enough to warrant testing.
For anybody selling Prophet over Alchemist, I'm not convinced that Burning Prophet is any better than Sigiled Starfish and is anybody still cubing that? Colours may be different but the power level isn't.
Unless if you're putting them in a standard aggro list Alchemist and Prophet aren't really comparable imo. It's more so just what type of spells matter deck you want to support. Same with both of the this or thats (though Spellgorger Weird might just be bad).
Prophet has 1-3 more stats than Scryfish, can be used immediately, and filters for your draw spells. You need the spells for it, but the upside is definitely there on an already cubable card.
I don't know if I would compare the two, because the ceiling and floor on Prophet are quite a bit higher - that said, unless UR is a spells matter pair in your cube, I don't think a 1/3 for 2 is what aggressive limited decks are really after. YMMV
Spellgorger hands down, Weaver doesn't hit face, so on a clear board it's a french vanilla creature - the Weird scales as the game goes on, and eventually demands removal or creatures thrown in front of it - Weaver meanwhile is just low impact unless your Oppo. has a bunch of weenies out and you're holding cantrips.
Man, I would love to add a suite of planeswalkers to my kids' cube, but I suspect they'll have the heck confused out of them once we start figuring out whether or not you can Lightning Bolt a walker (no matter what the text on the actual card says).
It's a shame... I'd have probably gone with one in each colour, just to give the kids a taste in each colour (and probably would have settled on The Wanderer, Narset, Davriel, Jaya and Jiang Yanggu).
Outside of this, my 360 literally has about 12-13 cards you'd ever want to proliferate at the moment, so none of that will come in. As always, no new keywords either (so no Amass cards coming in). There's also currently no hexproof in the cube, so Paradise Druid gets discounted as well (and yes, I might have to change this soon).
That leaves me with two unexciting changes:
Burning Prophet in for Jackal Pup(We just don't have the critical mass of sligh cards to make the pupper work, and the kids are so routinely scared off life loss that it's getting last-picked)
There were several other cards that were very close in my multicolour sections, but it's really hard to fit new cards in there (I'm looking at you, Pledge of Unity).
It isnt fair to call weaver dead on a board unless they only have x/1s. It still improves your burn spells and its 1/4 body can kill x/2s with a spell too.
BTE has never really played out as well as I would like it to, good ceiling, very mediocre if the ETB isn't used. Cackler is an amazing card, but I want to test Angrath and I don't think cackler is better than redcap.
Cards exchanged: Cruel Celebrant for Maw of the Obzedat
Obzedaddy is a great card, but doesn't get much love in my cube. Cruel Celebrant also fits in more (I think) with what I am trying to accomplish in this archetype.
Huatli's Raptor for Qasali Pridemage Huatli's Raptor fits into this archetype perfectly, even if the proliferate effect doesn't do much when this hits the board, I think the body is still strong enough alone. Removing Qasali Pridemage is still me trying to push my guild sections to be as close to the archetypes I like in my cube.
Contagion Clasp for Renegade Map
Map has just been bad, clasp looks nice with the addition of PWs and works well in my counters theme anyway.
Bleeding Edge for Corpse Churn
I love me some 2-1's. Way better options than churn for getting cards in the GY and only being able to return a creature is eh.
Eternal Taskmaster for Apprentice Necromancer
Never really got a chance to test the necromancer, but I think necromancer is too slow for the reanimator decks I have built in previous drafts. Taskmaster will be a slow, but hopefully nice grindy card.
Burning Prophet for War-Name Aspirant
The discussion on prophet has me interested, I push spells matter, but I think he will do equally well in any red deck.
Dreadmalkin for Gnarled Scarhide
I need more sac outlets, this one is slow, but I think Dreadmalkin will equate to just as much damage as Gnarled Scarhide on average... can also block and of course sac creatures. Just better synergy overall with my cube.
Teferi's Time Twist for Into the Roil
I support blink and time twist is nice because you can also blink permanents which not many blink spells can... can't wait to blink Oblivion Ring with the exile trigger on the stack
A lot of changes for me. We'll see how the PWs work out in the cube, I will not be afraid to replace them/cut them. Overall very happy with the cards in this set though.
I have played WAR at prerelease, drafted it 3 times on Arena and 1 time with friends in paper.
I have added quite a lot of cards lately, together witch the UMA cards and RNA cards.
So maybe I created a mess I have to sort out later after play testing more.
The following short review will focus on the planeswalkers i added and my first impressions.
I have added all hybrid Walkers except Huatli, the Sun's Heart and compensated by adding Kitchen Finks. (Before I didn`t run any hybrid cards) I don´t think Dovin, Hand of Control will make it in the long run, but i don´t have a replacement on hand/ idea for a replacement.
Mono-colored Walkers I added:
W: The Wanderer (testing) Seems like "bad" 2 for 1 removal, interested in how the passiv playes out.
U: Narset, Parter of Veils (testing) Already played with her, she felt great and i never missed, but my deck was perfekt for her. Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor Seems very good, played strong on arena, especially with something like Grateful Apparition.
B: Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted Odd one, but liked it at prerelease on my own creatures and left with 3 as a threat to play bombs for my opp. Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage much better than expected, played in paper and on arena, good in aggro and control.
R: Tibalt, Rakish Instigator just very annoying for opp and I like that.
G: Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter (testing) Didn´t impress me on arena and in paper, wouldn´t surprise me if he gets cut next time
I have allready played one Winston Cubedraft with planeswalkers. You can see the deck as attachment.
I have to say I really enjoyed the deck, it has a lot of walkers, 8 in total and it played very good. I have played 8 games in total, with and against the deck. Here some thoughts on the planeswalkers I ran in the deck: Saheeli, Sublime Artificer Really awesome, triggering on each noncreature spell created a lot of tokens, very strong in the right deck. Dovin, Hand of Control Was ok, and the passiv is more relevant than expected. But very replaceable and played like a more interesting but still bad version of Pacifism. Will likely get cut next time. Narset, Parter of Veils Feels great to activate, is more interesting selective draw in a format with, very similar draw spells, that I liked. Impact and restrictions make her narrow, passiv didn`t do anything, opponent had only "put into hand effects", so she was ignored a lot. Angrath, Captain of Chaos I think he is just good. Played very good every time, menace for the team is very strong, so he often requires an answer even on 1 loyalty. Vraska, Swarm's Eminence Like Angrath just a good card. The first token often enables the second. Turns out 4 mana for 2 1/1 deathtoucher is good. Also solid in aggro and control. Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage I underestimated this guy. early he is able to get more value later he can win the game. Seems to be good in aggro and control. Without protection he is not awesome but the floor of a 1 for 1 and 2+ life is ok. Like I mentioned before moste of this walkers seem to me like more interesting versions of "old" effects. Kaya, Bane of the Dead Slow expensive removal, nothing special. Nice to have an answer to Plated Crusher and friends, but not really needed. Will likely get cut next time. Ashiok, Dream Render Was the win condition with Sphinx's Tutelage and did a lot of work. Exiling the graveyard was very strong. Unprotected the opponent had to kill him most of the time. I am interested how much play this will see and think I will keep him/her.
The deck was very strong and won every match and lost 2 games. (2-0, 2-1, 2-1)
The games were longer than usual but there were a lot more decisions and i like that
Overall the walkers seem balanced, maybe some times one the weaker side. But they give the games more unseen effects(at C and UC) and are just interesting cards.
I am very exited to play more games with the walkers and I think they make cube games more complex and fun.
Also I tested Emergence Zone. Never used it. Doesn´t seem to be worth a spot, will get cut. But I will give it one more chance to shine next draft.
After playing some WAR selaed and drafts I got a better view on the set and on some cards.
Although these experiences are fro WAR limited they surely can be translated into cube to a certain degree: Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor: brilliant card, creates bodies, card filerting and the static ability is very relevant. Narset, Parter of Veils: in the right deck she is way better than a draw two, although not getting a third activation in cube (lack of proliferation) hurts massively. The most important plus is that she only costs 3 mana. Angrath, Captain of Chaos: as pointed out by others, he is fine. His static ability is very strong though. Would be better if didnt amass 2 but instead just creates a 2/2 token. Samut, Tyrant Smasher: I do enjoy the card. Giving all your creatures haste is very dangerous for the opponent and the scry is a nice card filtering in a color combinations that really can struggle finding the correct mix of lands and spells. Dovin, hand of Control: He is good at what he does, which is buying time, but thats it. He doesnt create creatures and doesnt draw cards. He is a pure UW control card in my opinion.
Tibalt's Rager has been pretty solid in draft. Maybe it'll translate well to cube? The 1dmg ping when it dies can be relevant for some of those 1 toughness dudes like spirit tokens or some utility creature.
Been playing with Ugin’s Conjurant in seal and draft and it's been one of the better cards and scales well in the curve. Anyone planning to try it in their cube for those suppporting +1/+1 counters?
I would imagine it's awful. It's never a good buy for the mana, even if it does offset that by always being exactly as much as you can afford.
Unfortunately, just adding more stats 1 at a time doesn't get you much. Like, a 7 mana 7/7 is actively bad, but a 3/3 for three is a respectable tempo play when necessary.
And attacking with your Ugin 5/5 into a 2/2 makes your already subpar 5 drop into a joke.
Yeah conjurant has definitely impressed me in limited, it's a lot better than it looks because of the flexibility. Not sure it quite makes the cut for cube, but I'm considering it for sure. Like, even when they block it with a smaller thing to shrink it, you are still killing that thing so it's not terrible. It even has the fun property of being immune to deathtouch.
Revised (or older) Lightning Bolt reads like it hits planeswalkers
Just for you, I'm going to trawl through my 360 and see exactly how many cards are affected by this.
Let's see how many other cards there are besides Lightning Bolt before I totally freak out (though I suspect it's probably most red spells)...

Yeah idk how it was interpreted but that's what I meant, somehow we've gone full circle back to "any target"
Of course, almost every other burn spell doesn't have its proper wording, and people who grew accustomed to the many years of the redirect rule might try to misplay with stuff like Sulfurous Blast
I am still weighing up the pros and cons of Murderous redcap vs Angrath, captain of chaos. I found that angrath was really good in Wr limited, that meance is really important and he defends himself which is useful for a walker. I opened a foil Angrath and I have a promo redcap so that always kind of weighs on my slightly.

I believe that both of these cards have merit, but ultimately it depends on what your Rakdos decks are typically doing. If Rakdos is predominantly a curve out aggressive shell, then Angrath is probably a better fit. If Rakdos tends to be more Aristocats-y and has a grindy game with sac outlets and graveyard value, then you probably want to keep Redcap.
I would be more inclined towards that change since Fiend gets brick-walled pretty easily, although is more explosive.

Treasure Cruise did nothing wrong.

Why you should take your hybrids out of your gold section
Manamath Article
Up'd my rainbow section (hybrid cards) to 10 and added:
Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner
Saheeli, Sublime Artificer
Angrath, Captain of Chaos
Dovin, Hand of Control
Kaya, Bane of the Dead
Nahiri, Storm of Stone
Vraska, Swarm's Eminence
Removed both Burning-Tree Emissary and Rakdos Cackler
Also added Snakeform, this with Kitchen Finks and Murderous Redcap rounds out my rainbow section now. Should be 4x symbols per color, so hybrid-theory-ish.
BTE has never really played out as well as I would like it to, good ceiling, very mediocre if the ETB isn't used. Cackler is an amazing card, but I want to test Angrath and I don't think cackler is better than redcap.
Added one monocolor PW to each section:
Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter
Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor
Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted
Teyo, the Shieldmage
Tibalt, Rakish Instigator
Cards exchanged:
Cruel Celebrant for Maw of the Obzedat
Obzedaddy is a great card, but doesn't get much love in my cube. Cruel Celebrant also fits in more (I think) with what I am trying to accomplish in this archetype.
Aven Eternal for Pestermite
Pestermite has been mediocre, the comparison of Aven Eternal to Eldrazi Skyspawner makes it an easy swap.
Huatli's Raptor for Qasali Pridemage
Huatli's Raptor fits into this archetype perfectly, even if the proliferate effect doesn't do much when this hits the board, I think the body is still strong enough alone. Removing Qasali Pridemage is still me trying to push my guild sections to be as close to the archetypes I like in my cube.
Paradise Druid for Servant of the Conduit
Easy upgrade in my opinion.
Pledge of Unity for Reap What Is Sown
Easy upgrade in my opinion.
Ral's Outburst for Bloodwater Entity
I don't play online only downgrades in rarity, so Ral's Outburst will be my Prophetic bolt. Entity is just a little slow with putting the card on top of the deck, has been disappointing.
Goblin Banneret for Reckless Waif
Overdue test.
Contagion Clasp for Renegade Map
Map has just been bad, clasp looks nice with the addition of PWs and works well in my counters theme anyway.
Bleeding Edge for Corpse Churn

Never really got a chance to test the necromancer, but I think necromancer is too slow for the reanimator decks I have built in previous drafts. Taskmaster will be a slow, but hopefully nice grindy card.

Pollenbright has a lot more upside, Maulfist has been a disappointment.
Burning Prophet for War-Name Aspirant
