Hello! I last updated my cube two years ago. As is normal for me, I'm interested in refreshing it to play a few runs before our group of young parents all go dormant again.
In theory, the "Average Cube" feature of CubeTutor would be absolutely freaking perfect for this. Unfortunately, it gets polluted with cubes like mine, and cards I should grab from new sets don't get highlighted there.
I really (really!) appreciate this forum, but it's tough to catch up on in this scenario. I can dig through ~5 pages for each supplemental set, and ~15 for each normal release, but it's a little overwhelming to digest everything new and then apply it to my little old cube.
tl;dr - I would like to place a new singles order, and would love to compare my cube to "Average Q4 2017 Peasant Cube."
Do you have any suggestions for me? Anyone else in this situation come up with something that helps bridge the gap?
Perhaps look at some of the regulars cube tutor links, and check the blog section. This will tell you some of the more recent changes they've made, and you can look at some of those cards that they've added to see if they float your boat. I haven't updated for almost a year, so using mine might not be that useful.

"i've been outta the game for 2 years, and once i refresh, i'll be outta your guys' hair.

I really appreciate you guys doing all the work for me. I can't look through 5 pages of set releases or the tail end of a normal release.
Leadfeather, right now: "Why don't you playtest the card and find out on your own, you lazy person"
He's not asking if a specific card is good. He's asking for a list of cards to buy cuz it's too daunting (its not that daunting) to look at a couple pages of card reviews.
It'd be quite a lot of reading, leadfeather. He's got 8 or more sets to go through, plus supplemental products, online rarity downgrades, and then after all that some of the card reviews are wrong and not corrected necessarily on the home thread for the set. Especially after over a year as things shake out. It is daunting.
Even if it was an easy easter egg hunt, maybe it isn't completely obvious to someone who isnt a regular?
Even if he was a former regular, who cares? He just asked for advice. You can ignore it.
The great thing about advice is you can pick out what works and you can ignore the people who are adding nothing. It sucks to be met with negativity, but that's life and unfortunately the only option is to move on.

@Kuben, I suggest going through the cube lists of the active posters here. Not that their cubes are or aren't better than other options, but you know that if people are actively posting they are probably also actively updating their cubes. If there are cards you don't recognize or don't stick out, look into them and see what works.
It is absolutely daunting to step into cube when time is limited and there are so many cards to choose from. In terms of navigating threads here outside of the cube lists, I'd check out 'spoiler season' posts and specifically check out the last pages. The first X amount of pages are only really useful in that regard if you want to look at the theory crafting, but if you want a summary then the end of the thread is typically where you can see the patterns of what looks great vs what isn't.

Thanks, all!
Here's Ixalan for example.

The last few pages especially should have lists of what cards people were interested in trying out.

I'll let you do his homework (if you decide to contribute) for him.

What is the problem you're having with someone looking at a daunting task and asking for help?
Renegade freighter is a great card. There, I contributed.

I'm also fully aware that I'm being salty.
