So that's the end of new card spoilers -- we get one quite good black curse, two testable blue and red ones, and a busted piece of equipment. Not bad for a tribal theme set at all!
I had the same line of thought. Obviously not including the black curse, but I have to admit, the curses do you like fun. As much as I wanted to not include the red, blue, and green ones, I have to try them out just for science....
I'm not yet sure about the equipment being "broken" or anything like that. I'll let you guys test it and then jump onboard if it's confirmed awesome. If not, i'll stick my tongue out and say " I told you so!"
The equipment seems like 1 step down from Clamp. The power buff makes it easy for 90% of creatures to at least trade with 85% of creatures. There's lots of obscure Jellyfish in the cube but there's lots of Goblins too so you can probably get a card or two over the game. That + the decently effecient stat buff + your opponent rarely knowing when you can definitely get card advantage from throwing away the equiped cresture makes it look super strong to me.

I mean it's definitely awesome, will be in 360 cubes literally forever. Only question is if it's bannable (a la Clamp/Warhammer/sometimes Wargear/sometimes Sledge).
For now, I'll assume it's not worth a slot in the cube, but will gladly admit being wrong in a couple months if it proves to be bonkers. I can't ever imagine it being bannable though.
There's a learning effect though, if you pay attention you'll often be able to tell what and if they can fetch in games two and three. General knowledge what's in the cube and what decks you've already played against help too. People will figure out ways to play against and around it (to the extent that it's possible) after a while. Three mana plus one to equip isn't nothing either, that's a huge tempo hit to draw a card. It's a strong card, but I don't think it'll be broken.
I mean, you'll only really know some targets. You don't see half of your opponent's deck in a game, and the blade won't just be equipped to the same targets.
It is quite interesting that if you trigger Heirloom Blade in the first game and you only have one target that your opponent might see more than half of your deck allowing them to potentially make much beter sideboard choices.
With Cauldron Dance seeing a modern border reprint, I was wondering if anyone had experience testing the card. It looks like a situational but potentially game-ending effect.
It does seem pretty cool, it might be too much work to get together and the payoff might still be underwhelming considering it costs 6, but the ceiling is there at least.
Loxodon Warhammer was reprinted in Commander 2017 as an uncommon with "lifelink" opposed to the "whenever this creature deals damage, you gain that much life" clause.
Downgrade overall, but simpler if that's what you're going for.

I'm pretty sure that's been the errata since it was reprinted in Xth Edition.

How is lifelink (happens at damage) a downgrade from a trigger that resolves after damage?
And yeah, it's had lifelink since at least 9th edition.

It's had "lifelink" since 10th edition (the first set it was printed in with the keyword). However, even then, it was a trigger that meant the same thing as "whenever this deals damage...". In M10, they reworked Lifelink to be what it is now and all cards printed with "whenever this deals damage..." had the errata removed that had given them the Lifelink keyword. The exception was Warhammer since it had actually been reprinted with the keyword while the rest hadn't.
The difference is that Lifelink does not stack whereas a trigger does. So, a creature with lifelink that is equipped with Warhammer doesn't gain any additional life. However, a creature with Lifelink enchanted with Spirit Link would gain its controller double life.
I am guessing this is what they mean by "downgrade".
Being lifelink is also an upgrade because lifelink saves you from lethal damage when blocking. Which is waaay more relevant than not stacking with nighthawk
I included both the blue and red curses into the pool to get them tested.
I had one of my cubers play the red one. It was pretty solid.
He was able to turn 1 it, turn 2 a creature, and get the Gold token on turn 3. He was playing a G/R ramp deck, so it helped him ramp into playing multiple spells a turn or even get his Pelakka Wurm out a turn or two earlier.
Good card. Not quite sure if it's a "good card" in aggro yet, but I'm curious to see how it plays out in an aggressive shell. It's definitely solid in the midrange/ramp decks though. I'd like to see it played more before I really evaluate the card.
Agreed.
Not interested in the green curse?

This is interesting. I wonder how often it will be relevant. It seems tough to play against.
