So some rules changed for the upcoming pro tour. No more having to deal with opponents playing with their creatures behind their lands, but more importantly the new mulligan rule:

Then, beginning with the starting player and proceeding in turn order, any player whose opening hand has fewer cards than his or her starting hand size may scry 1.

Pretty interesting.

I find the variance in magic to be a little too high for my tastes as it is, so this should help. Less dangerous than something like, 8 card hands, but less clean.

Do you mean: both players don't draw (or both players draw) and the beginning player starts with seven cards and the opponent with eight cards?

I'm going to seeif my players want to try this the next time we draft. I like this change a lot, besides reducing variance it adds a bit of skill too.

I meant, like, straight up moving the starting hand size to 8 as well as the maximum hand size. That would have been cleaner but more dangerous and radical. It would, however, reduce the frequency of mulligans and make each mulligan less damaging.

Never let your players design the cube in any way shape or form.

Personally I would like the a "commander" mulligan.

Control decks would have way more chance to have a counterspell as well. Although I don't play constructed so I am not sure, that's why I said I would personally prefer it.

For people who've tried out weird cards like Squadron Hawk, how did they end up playing out? Did you find it was a hassle to have to explain the rules to new players every time?

It wasn't awkward noob but I had taken them out by the time I did a bunch of 8mans.
