Red control decks have been fairly rare as of late which is why a card like slice and dice, though obviously powerful, hasn't been showing up.

It's hard to balance "% that you win when you cast it" with "% of games you cast it when you draw it" and "number of decks that play it" and "certainty that games were won by this", but lust for war has been a pure cheat code. Flametongue kavu goes in 100% of all decks but lust for war is insanely efficient at getting wins. It don't lose, but only in the very aggro decks. I almost, almost, ranked it as #1.
A big problem is that one of red's best strategies for control involves pushing tokens, which as you might imagine doesn't play nicely with damage-based sweepers. I've never seen Slice and Dice used successfully since I started my cube last summer, but have kept it in just in case.

Red is kinda bad at tokens in my opinion. IMO Red's best control is heavy sweepers paired with cards that dodge said sweepers...big butts, man lands, manifacts, protection creatures in white...2 for 1 burn spells, etc
I'm surprised that people still rate fireball as a top 3 red spell. I think plenty of cards win more games, just maybe not so obviously as when you fireball someone for 9.
I still love Fireball. It's hard for me to pass. X spells are usually pretty solid. It's just so consistently good. Maybe not for the really aggressive decks that stop on 4 or 5 mana, but in the midrange/control decks, fireball is the nuts.
and the other 2 are too new, but seem decent: Young Pyromancer: Izzet spells matter got a new way to win Akroan Crusader: Yea, a stretch, but he doesnt seem terrible. Maybe 15-20 on a future list of best peasant red cards
