I have Trilands, the Khans gain lanes and the Rav bounce lands, evo wilds and terrimorphic, sphere of suns. I feel like aggro tends to be primary one colour and splash another. So your aggro muli coloured cards have to be splashable and your colours mostly filled with aggro cards as slower decks get access to more colours.
I feel like Peasant is very aggro bent by is nature.
So I have a question, what do we think of Thoughtpicker witch in peasant?
I think opinions vary, but I quite like it. It's a cheap sac-outlet for the decks that want it, and in the right deck it can be a game-winning piece by completely screwing over your opponent's draws. It requires some set-up, but the pay-off is real.
In other news, I've been working on a peasant tribal list the last couple of months. It's finally in a state that I'd like to share. I've made a thread for it in the cube lists forum (here). If anyone has the time and/or like to take a look, maybe shoot some feedback, that would be very welcome!
What kinds of archetypes/decks/combos would you expect or like to see in an old school (old frame only) peasant cube?
So far I have
Archetypes: W/R Cycling, G/R/U Madness/threshold/flashback, Onslaught Goblins, G/B sacrifice, Reanimate
Combos: Channel/Fireball, Psychatog/Berserk, Land Tax/Goblin Trenches, Land Tax/Forbid, Standstill/man lands, Pestilence/Lashknife Barrier
With the announcement that mtgsalvation is closing, I'm curious what people's plans are for continued discussion of peasant cube. The announcement said they're trying to build a new platform, and I'm hoping it works out. But I'm also curious where else people go to discuss peasant cube. This forum has been immensely helpful in building and refining my cube, especially seeing the average mtgsalvation cube and discussing new cards as each set gets spoiled.
Reddit and Discord are both *****ty replacements for a real forum. I hope that whatever the mods are cooking is a real forum because otherwise we'll probably be losing an irreplaceable resource.
You can't have a 14.6k post thread on reddit with continuous conversation, and discord isn't really any better.
Agreed x1000. I'm glad the forum staff is looking into something to replace these forums and I hope it ends up being at least as good as if not better than what we have now. The community here has really helped me shape my peasant cube philosophy and you folks are honestly an irreplaceable resource.
We as a staff are currently working on a new site and will have more details to follow on this but there will a be a continuation site just now owned by the staff. More notes on this and its progress will be be found on the main cube forum page.
Another thing to note is I'm an avid Peasant cube and it would take my dead body before they remove the peasant and pauper cube section from the new site.
Relatively satisfied with these cuts (other than Fleshbag vs Merciless on what to cut for Plaguecrafter). They have been panning out quite well. NOW! For for the huge pile of foils I have been collecting for this cube that I need to figure out if there is a spot for them. These haven’t been actually added yet. I am just brainstorming. Need some feedback on if these are solid cuts or not:
Other cards I have ready to roll, but not sure if they deserve a spot at 360 (well, 375) Huatli’s Raptor could replace Qasali Pridemage since there seems to be enough removal in those colors Kongming, “Sleeping Dragon” nice little anthem Snapping Sailback costs a lot for a situational enrage trigger? Nahiri’s Mechinations took forever to find this card in foil in my area. Then added 2 other cards from later sets (Nahiri and the split card). Not sure if worth my time now. Mortify do I really want removal in a guild slot? Palace Jailer I really want to find a spot for this card but not sure if the Monarch mechanic is something I want to introduce in Peasant. Foil was hella spicy find. Sinister Sabotage – Was told this is NOT worth in 360 Meteor Golem – Was told this is NOT worth in 360 Sunhome Stalwart as suggested, went with Adanto Vanguard over this for now? Adventurous Impulse digs and has a very low chance of whiffing in typical Gx decks Maulfist Revolutionary I think an Evolution Sage would be better. Speaking of which… is Evo Sage cubable? Cause she’s one of my favorite War cards… Wretched Gryff – There was talk about these Emerge duders but can’t remember what was decided for them Abundant Maw see above Wanted Scoundrels – card is sweet! Beautiful foil! But… holy drawback. I need some people with experience to chime in on this one. Seed Guardian – Pretty sure this isn’t worth it in 360
I know this is a good amount of info thrown out at once. Just trying to catch up. Haha. These last few sets have been hectic. I am 99% sure I am missing stuff that I should have added. I nearly forgot about Rhythm and Pteramander, for instance…. If you spot something I am missing, whether new or old, let me know. I am always down to modify my cube, add cards to solidify what each color / guild wants to do, and balance it out.
Cruel Celebrant is the 4th one of those effects, which seems a bit excessive at 360 to me, but ymmv.
If you're trying to support an aggressive RG shell Voltaic Brawler is too ridiculous not to run. A 2 mana 4/3 trampler with very few asterisks is nuts.
Kongming, "Sleeping Dragon" is pretty borderline at 360, but he's not bad.
Nahiri's Machinations just doesn't do anything in practice. The indestructible is not relevant more than you would like, the pings are expensive, and it is just dead when behind. Basically any removal spell can effectively do what it's trying to.
Palace Jailer is one of the most powerful cards we have access to. Monarch is a fairly interesting mechanic, but Jailer can make it oppressive.
Seed Guardian just has too many things going against it: double green, weakness to white and blue removal, not attacking well, and needing support to make a sizable token.
Most of the other changes look fine, though Mist Raven for Kasmina is a bit strange to me considering they go in pretty different decks. The other cards listed are playable, but there's other cards with similar or higher power level that aren't as clunky, so there's no need to run them unless you have a specific reason.
Peasant Cube on a Budget - The Wrap-Up
I got the cube together! How much did I get right (or wrong)?
You can give it a draft here if you're so inclined.
I've only given it a test draft a couple of times myself so far. It feels like it falls into the archetypes fairly well as I'm drafting it, but I do miss the tri-lands for one...
