Sounds reasonable. I already have 4 artifact destruction dudes in the maindeck, so I probably wouldn't bring in Manic Vandal. I'd consider running Artisan, though. I even have the Brutalizer to pull it out.
I recently cut 45 cards from my cube to take it down from 495, so it's now 450 cards. It must've been the hardest 45 cuts ever, haha. I'm going to take a spin with it this Thursdays.
I wish we got Innistrad previews sooner. So excited for new commons/uncommons.
I'd like to take my peasant cube up to about 450 to give me some more room for cards I really like that I just don't seem to have room for right now. The problem I find in doing that is that I don't feel like there are enough good artifacts to justify adding in more.
Is your peasant cube posted here on MTGS, tReason? I'd be interested in seeing your artifact section.
It's not on MTGSalvation but it's on tappedout.net and I also have a spreadsheet for it. I didn't want to bother with formatting it for this forum and then not really get any feedback from people. I'll PM you the links.
I think some of my artifacts are a bit weak, but I feel it's not too big of an issue. It's the easiest section to find cuts for but I'm sure there'll be enough good artifacts for it eventually.
I also make packs for my cube a bit differently, so even though the gold/artifacts may be a bit more numerous percentage-wise, it doesn't flood packs with them. I pull 2 cards from each color (10 cards), 1 random colored card (11 cards), and 4 colorless, multicolor, and land cards (15 cards) to make a pack. Then I shuffle each pack and swap a card from it with the pack next to it to further randomize it so it's not as easy to get a free read on what you're being passed.
Is Moans of the Unhallowed even that good? I compare it to Grizzly Fate and it just makes me sad. The flashback should've costed less or something, because I don't think I can find room for it in my cube.
Damn its just disappointment city in the cube right now.
on another note, has anyone cut a big portion of their LD section? Stone rain and friends haven't been used in months for me.
edit
I'm not cutting avalanche riders. those men are sick.
I'm actually putting more in, Stone Rain and Aftershock to go with Molten Rain, Avalanche Riders, and some others I'm probably not remembering.
I've had a hard time getting aggro to be good enough, and I like LD as a theme in red. LD is kind of unfun, but as someone who started in Antiquities/Revised, it also seems like a necessary piece. Plus, it's something for red to do other than burn and play worse creatures than white.
After realising that I don't think Kuldotha flamefiend will work, I put back in molten rain. As for what I'm filling Stone Rain and Blood Ogre's slots with, I'm experimenting with Chartooth cougar and Spawning breath.
I like the Cougar, but Spawning Breath seems a bit pricey at 1R. You get your 1 back with the token, but I just feel like there are better burn spells available.
I'm more interested in its function as a nongreen ramp spell. Something that could function in a deck that's red blue, has an eldrazi in it, or an overload of four drops.
It looks as though it has a lot of applications in any defensive build, even though its the most overcosted burn this side of ember shot.
A lot of cards in my cube have niche purposes for the decks that want them or the situations that call for them. Take sudden death and sudden shock. Both are pretty decent cards, and neither one will ever leave my cube. Mistmeadow witch and crystal shard are cards that need to be foiled, and they both do. It's a space that I need filled.
I don't have any cards that give mana and affect the board state simultaneously. Killing a jade mage or a Cabal interrogator and following it up with a calciderm or avalanche riders is a space I want to try and fill. Like everything else, if it fails, then it does.
I went back to page 1 and noticed that I hadn't gotten a review on phantasmal dragon. Anyone have an opinion after testing?
I never actually did add the dragon to my cube. I dunno, after a few more M12 drafts, I feel like he's worse than I thought at first. Still ok, but not too great. However, I was wrong about Vampire Outcasts and you guys were right, so perhaps I'm wrong here too.
I had picked up a stack of cards in my cube and counted up the proportion of cards that deal with it on turn 4. I'll do it now...
18/63
almost a third deal with it on turn 4. Hilarious and/or value ridden excerpts include
AEthersnipe
Man-o-war
Reckless Charge
Stingscourger
Goldmeadow Harrier
Leeching Bite
Fireball (lol)
Fume spitter
Fire (from fire and ice)
Frost breath
Hondon of infinite rage
and....
Desert
I mean, someone can try it, but for once it won't be me.
yeah I don't know what I was thinking about replacing carnophage.
What are your blue 5 drops? I don't have my cube next to me, but Murder of crows is better than the (not blue) sengir vampire (obv worse than mulldrifter). Could it be decent? If it trades, you get additional value. that, and we don't have a lot of big blue bodies in the air.
Invisible stalker is a better ledgewalker, but in a worse color. I don't think it'd make it.
Yeah, I've waited a long time for another good black aggro 1 drop, and the Ghoul will be really really good. Murder of Crows seems really good for a blue 5 drop, as I run neither Air Elemental nor Stratozeppelid atm and I want another strong blue flyer.
How do you guys feel about Enlightened Tutor? I see it run in a lot of Powered/Unpowered Cube lists, but I don't know if the cards you'll typically be grabbing with it in a Peasant Cube are worth a card and a draw step.
The loxadon warhammers win 80% of their games with minimal help. Having an "extra copy" in your deck sounds nice, right? Oh, and if your cube has skullclamp, then you tapdance.
What Leelue said. Enlightened Tutor is amazing. It's a virtual second copy of whatever you need the most when you see it. It tutors for awesome equipment, O-Ring, Centaur Glade, Rancor, etc. It's really solid.

I only draft in a custom 2 man draft format, so I can't begin to add to that portion of the conversation.
Has anyone else been disappointed by Blood Ogre? I haven't been very impressed at all.

its ok. my love for subgames within games gets its fix in the other three bloodthirsty creatures that made it in.
is Moan of the unhallowed (spoiler) the only/a card that we care about so far?

Any opinions? Complicate seems like it'll at least always be solid, but RR can be a blowout.
EDH Decks:
- Reya Dawnbringer // - Mistform Ultimus // - Balthor the Defiled // - Urabrask the Hidden // - Mirri, Cat Warrior
I see no reason for it to replace Carnophage. It should be played alongside it, not instead of it.
Edit: @MagnetMan: I'd go with Complicate. It's a solid card and it's almost never useless.
