Think about what stage in the picking you'd draft this. It probably wouldn't be a card you deliberately take in Pack 1 so already that's 33% of drafts that a potential 4cc player never gets it. Then multiply 66% by the % of drafts somebody actually runs 4cc (say 20%) and you get a card that might get played 13% of the time.
And even if I was playing 4cc, I wouldn't be too excited to draft a card that's either going to be a 3/3 for 4 or a 4/4 for 4 that I could get upside from.
Now if +1/+1 counters were being pushed, I could see myself being more interested...
To the people who support/have people who like forcing 4/5c. How often does it happen and how often does it work out (if it does)?
Every cube. I have at least 2-3 players in my playgroup who just LOOOOOOVE the 4-5 color decks. They just force it. It's not super hard to force. Just pick some of the best cards in each pack, make sure you avoid too many double costed spells, grab fixing early/mid, and have fun! Sometimes the deck is a monster, and other times it's just decent/meh. I don't think you need to support it to make it happen.
I can easily go into a draft and say.. "You know what.. I haven't played a 5-color deck in a while.. Let's do it!", and do it.
On a side note, (After typing this), I have been adding/cutting/re-adding Etched Oracle specifically for the 5-color deck. I might bring it back in because I LOVE THAT CARD.
I like playing with Etched Oracle and Skyreach Manta quite a bit, but I don't think they're close to the best cards for their slot, or necessary for any worthwhile archetypes, which puts them in an awkward spot.
I run Oracle, because it's a ton of fun and wombos with Imperial Recruiter. I like having one card that signals 5c as a potential thing to get the gears turning for my drafters. I agree it could be replaced by something more consistent, but who cares?
I was trying to run Worldheart Phoenix for a minute as well. Unfortunately, it's stats are just too poor on the hardcast which means aside from the 5c Hermit Druid deck of my dreams, it's not going to be as good in 5c decks as often as Oracle.
How often do you guys see true control decks being made / how do you support them? Every time I try to force myself into a control deck, it ends up being more like delver in that games go "Resolve this 2/1, Counter/Bounce/Tap your stuff for the next 10 turns, GG."
Maybe I should run more board clears, or more counterspells in blue instead of dudes. I'm sure Leelue will disagree with that, though.
One control deck per draft of 8? Or one control deck per draft of.. 4? 6?
Before I went on this excursion around the world, I would frequently draft 8 people and we'd often have...
2-3 aggro
2-3 midrange
2-3 control
0-1 something else deck
I feel like a good split would be...
25%-37.5% aggro
25%-37.5% midrange
25%-37.5% control
and every once in a while, someone to do/force something gimmicky
When I did my stretch of 8man drafts, there were about 2 control players per draft. Well, I guess I'm lumping ramp into control, but we had a strong color diversity in the slower deck strategies.
I am fine with control being the least represented so long as it still shows up.
I just think white and black or white and red are strong control colors to support directly and blue runs very well in an aggro base.
depends on how incremental the value is on your cantrip. probably low but it could be pretty good. i've been wondering how close to cube thought scour is lately. i just love cantrips tho.
Eh when are you ever going to be happy to have drawn Opt? The card quality bonus is so minimal, I think it's only really useful if you're playing draw-go and the instant speed is relevant... and draw-go isn't really a supported archetype.
I just wish Cerulean Wisps was a tapper (aka Niveous Wisps), then I'd use that as blue cantrip #4 (after Preordain, Ponder, Serum Visions).
I've been happy with just Ponder and Preordain at 400. If I wanted a third, Mental Note/Thought Scour are well behind Brainstorm, Serum Visions, Sleight of Hand, and even Opt. (I'm not counting Probe since it's not strictly a blue card.) I value scry 1 over milling for 2, since it's relevant way more often, especially since the draw (pun intended) to cantrip spells is, imo, in the card selection they offer. Milling some random cards off the top doesn't really let you see more cards, since you don't get to control where they go.

It is lower in power level than other 1 mana cantrips like Ponder, Brainstorm, Preordain, Treasure Cruise, Serum Visions, Sleight of Hand, and Gitaxian Probe, unless there are graveyard synergies.
So really it depends how many cantrips you want and how much you would like to support graveyard synergy.
