Yeah it is, but I think having to always plan for the 'trick'/EOT threat is a lot more of a pain in the ass for a retail draft format than planning around those, especially if populate is a real mechanic. Having that effect at uncommon means you're facing 10 power with trample on two 5/5s probably too often, even for a high-power draft format.
BUT, it would be sweet for peasant if so. I think it's more likely we see call of the conclave/vhitu-ghazi guildmage/both instead of the rare-shifting wurm.
I'd much rather have Avenger, but it's probable that repeated Lightning Helix is too strong to ever see an uncommon printing. Angel isn't particularly great (costs six), but I'd try it for sure in Boros since, you know, everything else sucks. Probably also unlikely, though, just too much complexity to it.
We are also probably going to see Lightning Helix this set, I don't know why but it would be weird to have both at uncommon.
EDIT: nope, NVM, not in a legal set, though I could see Warleader's Helix (and maybe a drop in rarity? is that insane?) EDIT: NOPE ALSO NOT IN A LEGAL SET WELL **** ME AND JUST IGNORE EVERYTHING IN THIS POST
Though it's also possible there's no Boros card at all. If the set is Shard-themed, a Boros card can only go in a Naya deck... we've seen a couple ally-color uncommons, and something like Terminate can go into two Shards (Grixis and Jund).
The development article from 02/27/17 stated that there will be three cards per shard and two cards per enemy pair. While this does not mean we will get an enemy-color uncommon cycle, I personally think we will.
I guess I won't be expecting a ton from MM17, but I'd be happy with 3 good cards and a half dozen or so reprints with the nice M15 frame and most up to date wording (dies, create, etc.)
Phyrexian Ingester has been great. It's a great fatty to ramp into/reanimate/control into. I haven't seen Mindless Automaton as much. It seemed okay, but I recently added a +1/+1 counters matter package into my cube, and I think that should boost the card a good amount.
Looking over cubes, I notice a lack of Overgrown Battlement, but people do run Ulvenwald Captive. Why is this? Am I missing something what makes Captive so great, or am I greatly overvaluing the wall?
Lately, I've been looking at peasant cubes and I notice a lack of Overgrown Battlement, but no shortage of Ulvenwald Captive. Am I missing something about the Captive, or am I overvaluing the Wall?
@Lemem, I think Talrand is a tad strong. the Angel is something I would probably cube with, but as i0 said, that's mostly because Boros is pretty mediocre.
Firemane Angel is vulnerable enough that one might even question its viability is Boros was not so shallow. I would probably run it, though.
Eh. Overgrown Battlement's stats are better, sure, but when it is being used for mana, those do not matter. There are also extremely few other defenders in most CU/bes to boost its effect (reliably).
Meanwhile, Ulvenwald Captive is a mana sink that becomes a proper threat if you have not drawn one but have the mana available. That is a really important role in a ramp deck since I have experienced the problem of only drawing more ramp when in need of a finisher. Doing double duty is just that much better when the card is decent enough on both sides (although great on neither).
Walls (yeah I'm old school) just don't offer much interaction, while being great against aggro. I rather have something a little weaker touggness-wise and still ramp and offer late game utility. Aka. The captive
If I'm playing a six-mana idiot with no ETB effect, I want its second mode to be something cheap (a la Eternal Dragon)... not a nine mana activated ability from the graveyard.
I don't expect it to be that good, but to actually get rid of it it needs to be exiled. If our deck is designed to go long we can get to 10 eventually and then it's a very resilient threat that helps to keep us alive even from the graveyard.
Against aggro decks we can even think about discarding it early to a looter or a Tormenting Voice to have the lifegain.
Hey Leelue, is there a reason you added Nemesis of Reason in your latest update? Why is it in the green section? Is is there some sick pun I am missing?
That was a weird, sad oversight. It should have always been the Nemesis

I would wager that no more than 40% of your control deck games get to 10 mana. So the angel is just poor in the other games. Pristine talisman at least has a front end that supports you.
And Ima be honest I definitely didn't count how much that activated ability costs
It's just plain good design to have the casting cost include RWW and the activated ability include RRWW. Because, you know, Reanimate effects traditionally take... extra... red? mana?

Not sure what part you edited, but both Warleader's Helix and Lightning Helix are eligible to show up in MM17.

Still don't think it's very likely, but going through the Boros rares, there aren't a lot of candidates for downgrades.

My Peasant Cube thread !!! (380 cards)
Draft my Peasant Cube on Cube Cobra !!!
Ramp decks have issues where they draw "one half of their deck", and ulvenwald captive is both halves at once.

Nemesis of mortals
I'll fix that

Also I think getting to 10 mana, and developing the board state even further at all, is a ridiculous goal.
I don't even really want artisan of kozilek and that guy had an etb
