The cube is perfectly balanced as is. Each strategy has its countercards, each archetype its outs. (Tier1 cube)
And you guys might see it different, but a 3/2 trample CC2 with the only "drawback" of double colorcosts is definitely better than a 2/1 cant block, flying. Its a total of 5 stats compared to a total of 3 stats and and 2 huge drawbacks. (unable to block and toughness1)
To be fair, my Tier2 cube is much more like the majority of cubes here and its awesome to play. It still has a decent powerlevel, but it plays much different to T1. T1 is more like constructed. while t2 is more like a limited format.
And nope, early bounce of your land is totally acceptable when the blocker buys you at least 2 turn tempowise. Selfbounce is huge and I brought this argument before, Halimar Depths is paupers Sensei's Divining Top, mulldrifter becomes insane, but whatevs
Hornet sting being playable, ever, is a clear signal you've pushed your cube into a different environment. It's not "tier 1," it's just bizarre.
Checking your cube Sting is hard removal for 60/180 creatures. Sounds pretty reasonable to me in a color without any sufficient removal especially against tappers and looters. I run it in my t2 cube and its great.
He built precons, shuffled them up into a cube and rounded out the colors based on those decks. It's a different way of doing things and unfortunately not very helpful for the rest of our cubes which aim to be a much more dynamic drafting experience.
thats true more or less. The "precons" evolved from the staple and cubable cards we mostly agree on. I just fleshed out the archetypes they create to the limit and balanced them against each other.
Tier2 is more dynamic, but mainly because its powerlevel is much more reasonable for a common limited. Although it has more redundancy amd less strategy centerpieces. Im still balancing the meta there, too though. Since its slower and I run a lot of toughness1 removal there too, I put the 1/2 tappers in there for example.
360 is still quite a small cardpool and if you want to support certain synergies/archetypes it always tends to move into the precon direction. Unless you build your cube around certain themes like a lot of morphs or tribal.
I think (one of) the most dynamic cubes can be build with heavy graveyard interaction across all the colors. (Threshold, Dredge, Unearth, Flashback and so forth)
Either way you need to start playing "bad" cards (in a vacuum). Either because the interaction pushes its powerlevel in your specific meta or because they create a more dynamic or immersive experience.
well ok, you can still chose to just throw random stuff together based on whatever opinion and draft it, but I just dont like playing random piles without a certain gameplan / interaction focus.
Or run bigger cubes, like a lot of you chose to.
others midnight guard for gond court street denizen probably not good enough but seems interesting with icatian crier and cenn's enlistment. crier lets you tap things during their turn. Ivy lane denizen also probably not good enough but lets you make bigger tokens especially with sprout swarm, gond, and the evangel.
Isn't that not entirely fair? Because he would purposely be downgrading his 3 drop slot (by some unstated amount) in order to have a play better than a three drop at 5 mana, or in rare instances 7 mana.
"Steal target creature until end of turn" effects are great with sacrifice outlets. Currently just have Traitorous Instinct in mine but Act of Treason is fine. Ray of Commmand is less good but amusing.
I run this combination (sac and token archetype) in tier2 and i wouldnt overload the sac outlets. I run 3, thats usually enough, maybe im going to include a 4th one again. Thats enough to support that one deck thats wants it. I recently pushed black towards Zombie Tribal to abuse Infernal Caretaker in a sac deck.
I recommend Shadow Alley Denizen and Predator's Gambit to make that one big guy unblockable.
Also I run 3 steal effects in red.
I've been way too busy with school to cube unfortunately, and no new updates to be made... although I did finally get my copy of recently common Beetleback Chief. Is this guy as good as it looks? Obviously it's great with token support, which I don't have. Good on its own?
I played pancake draft with my girlfriend the other day, I played a Mardu Tokens deck with Ponyback Brigade, Beetleback Chief, Cloudshift and Raid Bombardment/Weapon Surge/Dynacharge. Yikes!
I didn't trust that much in ponyback, I undervalued the ability of putting 4 bodies with one card. Same goes to Beetleback.

I haven't played it yet, but the Abomination of Gudul seems good to me. 3/4 flying is not a bad body for pauper, and a surprise looting is good. Specially in sultai colors.
The Temur one I don't know, it's not too hot in a vacuum, but I think that with enough morph in the cube it can be tricky. Killing a blocker and passing damage through is nice in turn 5.

Im on the "stay pure" side Meaning, I want to add only cards to my cube I can physically obtain as commons. Although I play some UC and even rare (Rukh Egg) at the moment, this often confuses new players and I consider them proxies.
Second argument is the different system wotc implemented (which i think is totally stupid) by not releasing online cards with their actual rarity of paper. (this might have pauper constructed reasons, but considering delver is the best deck, monoblack wouldnt be much worse to the meta)
Also theyre not reprinting cards with their current modo rarity, not even in preconstructed products.
And I dont see a reason why I want to push the powerlevel even more by adding "semilegal" cards. If you want new options or stronger cards just build a peasant cube.
well mishra and maze would be a too great impact in the cube-meta for my taste. LD would probalby be more rewadful than in standard cubes. I think at least Sinkhole would be very interesting or creatures like Goblin Gardener.
not directly cube related, but im going to start a tournament next year. 40-card minimum singleton pauper format. Im curious to see if I got the strongest decks in my Tier1.
in blue Piracy Charm, Pinger
white: holy light, Icatian Javelineers Fire at Will
colorless Serrated Arrows, Viridian Longbow desert
and a bunch of effects in red (those kill a usually more than 1 guy)and black
and please dont tell me, that hornet sting is a bad card, its green hard removal that gets better with the total number of x/1
of course, you can chose to not include those spells, than ur x/1s are better, but logically same can be said for x/3 and bolt then or removal overall
