ophidian is not good. for one more mana you can have thieving magpie and be sure of the card AND the damage, or have the option of blocking small fliers. i tested ophidian a fair amount and it was never good and whoever ran it was disappointed. this was in a rares cube, though. maybe the environment is so different that it's somehow good. but people would have to stop playing creatures or something.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Of course Magpie would be in... if it were common.
Ophidian is definitely good. U/x control will almost definitely have removal or bounce (or both), or counters for that matter, so connecting with it isn't a problem. I once got basically locked out of game because of Ophidian combined with Waterfront Bouncer.
@Duckpants: totally agree with the Guardian, it's nuts. A friend once gave it an Armadillo Cloak. That ends games pretty fast. Also, I see you have Kabuto Moth. That got better with M10 rules, is it any good?

It saw play twice in the 6 games I played.
-The first time, it severely affected the combat math, causing my opponent to not 2-for-1 with his combat tricks (festering goblin, etc).
-The second time, I had to chump block with him because I was on the defensive. I still went on to win =)
Still on the fence about Scroll Thief/Ophidian. The problem is, I don't know what to cut for it. Any ideas? Please note that Spellstutter Sprite has already been cut, but I haven't editted the main list because I'm hosting the Group Draft.

the environment is completely different. I have both a rare cube and a common cube and the difference is definitely vast. There are a lot of different effects than in rare cubes, and red is a lot better. Ophidian is good. Repeatable CA. It's no shadowmage infiltrator, but it does a pretty good impression for a common.

Pretty much. I think the Ophidians are fine creatures in commons cubes, lack of evasion does hamper them, but they still get in for damage a good amount of time.
I really hope that Scars of Mirrodin gives some good common artifacts. I'm using 40 artifacts in mine and some could be easily kicked out for some quality ones. Similarly with a good common land cycle, I doubt they'll repeat the same mistake with the artifact lands.

Agreed, and agreed. Pauper Cube's artifact and land sections would love some more beef.
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has forestwalk.
Brindle Boar might have what it takes for Pauper.
Edit: Wait, no, checking my list, it's not good enough. It's solid, but it's closest comparison is Grazing Gladehart, which is worth so much more life.
The effect is pretty suboptimal. It's consistently "okay" throughout the game, since it taps, but the closest comparison, Disfigure, is great early on and still worth something later on.
How many do you run, and why? Which do you run, and why?
Currently, I'm running Wayfinder and Wood Elves (I have a no functional reprints rule that may be uplifted soon). Have an eye on maybe changing the Wood Elves for Farhaven or Granger. I quite like the granger on paper as although she is inefficient to pay echo for, it seems that it could be a good blocker against aggro in ramp decks. Though I do like Wood Elves for G/x decks filled with aggro 1 and 2 drops.

Hmm. Maybe we should get on top of these Pauper Power Rankings. If we decided to get that in depth and do Pauper Rankings, Who would be down for voting on the cards? I'd say the qualifications are owning or having a lot of experience with a pauper cube. I'm not exactly sure how Silent_Edge went about it, because I never participated in the actual votes (not having access to more of the powerful cards sort of dissuaded me from participating.) But I think he compiled a sort of master pool list for each color before doing the actual voting.
Wasn't the Power rankings thread set up so that, everybody lists their top twenty cards of a color? And then, points were attached the cards (20 for first place, 19 for second, etc, etc.), and the averages taken.

Or am I way off?
yes, that's how it was done, but I don't think they just started filling out top 20 lists, I feel like there was some sort precursor that lessened the pool of cards to vote for. Narrowed it down so it could be narrowed down and such.
What do you guys think about embolden? I know it's a little spendy, but with white weenies the any number of target thing seems pretty strong to me. My friends keep telling me how terrible they think it is
I wouldn't run embolden; though it is a lot better card than your friends give it credit for. The thing is, it's best in creature based midrange with lots of removal and possibly burn, as it can be a neat combat trick. But that's not really a white archetype at all.
Without board presence, it is a much, much worse Moment's Peace, without lots of removal four damage isn't going to cut it. Aggro-control isn't white, really, at least that particular kind of aggro control.
Also, for the power rankings we're going to need to have a discussion thread prior to it so people can straighten up their voting before they do it and not make stupid mistakes.
Riding Red Hare - awful or awesome? It's pretty much going to make something unblockable and turns a creature into a Lava Axe, but is it too situational and iffy due to 2-for-1 potential?
I'm going to go with probably good enough. Definitely not awful. White is way underpowered in the format, so things like this can just slide in. I'd never run it in a format with things like Griffin Guide, but sadly we can't run that. Sorcery speed is painful, though.

But I don't really like any of them TBH. In my 900 card cube I only run Farhaven Elf right now, and it's on the chopping block as well.
My Tribal cube
My 93/94 old school cube
My Artifact cube
My Hearthstone Quiz App for iOS
Civic Wayfinder
Borderland Ranger
Sylvan Ranger
Yavimaya Granger
Wood Elves
Farhaven Elf
Personally, I find that 1/1 body not enough for these kind of effects, but I do like that Sylvan Ranger is cheap. That pretty much explains my order.
