Its my first cube, so I want to start out with just commons. What do I do, just throw a bunch of commons in a pile and draft it?
Also, Id like it to be relatively small. Just for either 2 or 4 people. Is that possible? Whats the bare minimum number of cards needed for 2 or 4 people?
I like it, but actually, it is pretty easy if you read the entire database of knowledge I posted above.
That resource is really good, but you do have to remember that some of the information since then has became out-dated and there are many cards that aren't mentioned there, all the newer ones and even some of the older ones that were under our radars at the time. But that is a really good starting place. I also recommend looking through other peoples cube lists and just sort of coping a lot of cards for there.
Then after you've got at least 360 cards just start to doodle around and drafting with friend. You should begin to get an idea of what you want your pauper landscape to look like. From there just tinkering and keep on trying new stuff.
I know that I started my pauper cube with only the cards I owned and then began to expand as I played more and more with it. I traded for more and more card. Now it's getting to the point where I am happy with how my cube is shaping out, although I know that I still am lacking a lot of cards. I will have to buy the rest online...
Im gonna just start getting a pool of cards together, draft it, and then go by trial and error to see what needs to stay and go. Is that a good method? Obviously, Ill have the pool split evenly between colors, artifacts, and multicolored stuff.
Try solo drafting on tappedout, search for "pauper cubes" and take notes of cards you'd draft. There are some good (and bad) ones on there, and while it won't give you an accurate idea of what really would table or not, you can see what decks are available when you only have limited resources .

Also another good resource is the Pauper cubing thread. That is a really good read through if you want to learn about pauper cubing environments.
