I like the packs where there are multiple good choices to suggest. Once we break the 3-way tie, we'll move on to the next pack.
Well then, I think I'll throw in a vote for the Vulshok Morningstar. It works so well in multiple deck archetypes.
Cool project BTW - I've been wanting to see something like this to see what other pauper cubers are thinking when they are drafting. For example, I would have taken the Rancor pack 1 and either the Mongrel or Baloth pack 2. What can I say, I love me some green beats...
For example, I would have taken the Rancor pack 1 and either the Mongrel or Baloth pack 2. What can I say, I love me some green beats...
I can understand. As I said, Rancor + Mongrel + Morningstar = scary deck, so that would've been an equally effective road to take. Although I'm partial to UB, so Crypt Rats gooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Thought about it a bit, I said I was going to go with the next vote to break the tie, and I am going to stick with that. Even though I missed the gap there and we technically have a tie again with the morningstar and aquaduct.
If there is massive objections/fallout to this, we can backtrack a pick, but I'm going to call it for Morningstar, call it my vote.
Glad Morningstar was the last pick as that would have been my vote.
/card] your team" followed by a Memory Lapse. Then next turn "Rolling Thunder your team" followed by a sadface. Does that extra turn make a big difference? " style="max-width:360px; font-size: 0.8em;">
I'd love to hear some more thoughts on Memory Lapse. That card just seems bad to me but so many Commons Cubes run it. Is the tempo loss that helpful? I just picture a game as "Rolling Thunder your team" followed by a Memory Lapse. Then next turn "Rolling Thunder your team" followed by a sadface. Does that extra turn make a big difference?
This is an interesting pack. We could go with the Eel if we want a finisher. We could go with Ray of Command as a super-sick (albeit one-time) combat trick. Or we could go with Waterfront Bouncer. With the Rats already in our deck, this makes the Bouncer a decent T-6 play instead of just T-2.
I can't say if I were sitting at a table that I'd be able to resist the Ray or Eel, but I think the best card for what we're going for is the Waterfront Bouncer.
I'll break the mold here and say Ray of Command. That card has been insane every single time I've cast it. Windrider Eel isn't really a good pick here imo because there's plenty of flying finishers you can expect to find later.
Blinding Beam. Lackluster pack is lackluster. Esper's not a terrible combination to be in.
Right now, we're somewhat cemented in blue, but the other colors can go either way. I really don't want to lose Crypt Rats, but it's not splashable at all, and I could envisage a WU Tempo deck with flyers + Morningstar for the beats and Beam + Lapse for tempo enough to win.
I'll admit to rooting for the Conjurer, for flavor reasons and because "tap: Target basic land is a manland now" seems like it would have a lot of uses, especially if we see some black removal.
I really don't like Conjurer. 2 mana 2/2 that just doesn't die isn't bad, but you lose lands if you're frivolous. I could see Conjurer + Waterfront Bouncer shenanigans, so that you can then pitch the land to bounce something else (lol?), but in any case, it's kind of lackluster. Although I've never played in a snow environment, so I could be wrong.
It's part nostalgia for me. My first deck (read 100+ card monstrosity with no synergy) I played it with Arcum's Weathervane because I didn't have enough snow land to make it work.
I'll vote for Stinkweed Imp. Decent defender, wears our 'star well, keeps us in black.
I agree with Lanxal that I'm not a fan of Conjurer. Maybe if his butt was a bit bigger (0/3) or if he could actually fight alone in an emergency (1/2), but as it stands making lands into bears is pretty underwhelming. Flayer Husk is worth consideration, and Blinding Beam is obviously the strongest card in the pack, but I like Stinky :p.

The best card here is Blinding Beam, and it isn't bad. We aren't overly cemented into UB, and Esper or even UW aren't bad colours. Stinkweed Imp isn't that good, and neither is Conjuror.
Worst case scenario, the Beam isnt hard to splash.
I'd personally feel better about Blinding Beam if we were in green (easier to splash it) or we hadn't shipped so many great white cards in earlier packs. My vote is for the Stinkweed Imp though because it can kill multiple creatures and go on the offensive too.
I can't believe it makes sense to pass the Ninja of the Deep Hours, because it's awesome. But a 2/3 unblockable regenerator for 4 looks pretty hot. I vote for the Zombie Musher.
I think the Musher is my favorite snow card in the cube, it's a shame that the Ninja probably wont wheel. We will see 2 cards out of this pack again, but I can't really see the Ninja shipped that far.
I'll go with Prophetic Prism over the Gear. Grabbing a card that enables a splash and can also work with the Crypt Rats is pretty solid. Gear is good but I'm not sure how high our creature count will be PLUS it's not the best equipment in the late game.
I'll go with Tortured Existence over Daze. It's a close call & I think Daze would be better for our deck, but I think cutting this black card is key for pack 2. If somebody sees that the Existence has wheeled, it might send the wrong signal. Plus getting back the 2/3 unblockable dude (and any other great creatures we grab) would be pretty nice.
EDIT: Since I made it back and there hasn't been any action, I'll cut this back down to 2 packs instead of trying to finish it all tonight. Should make it more manageable
