Hello all, A friend and I recently created a cube, and are in the process of trying to balance it. Through some testing and analysis, I feel that white and red are a little worse than the other three colors. They lack depth that the other colors have. through test drafting i have found with red and on a slightly lesser scale white that there are only a one or two decks you can successfully draft with either of those colors as a base. The main thing is that both colors consist of a lot of aggressive creatures. that is not necessarily a bad thing, but there are to many aggressive creatures, and it is hard to draft a deck with either of those colors as a base that is not aggro. Does anyone have any suggestions as to some budget cards we could add to give these colors some depth? and if you wanted to look at the other sections and give me some tips and suggestions as to what to cut and what to add, that would be greatly appreciated! Please keep in mind we are on a budget, and that this is our first cube! thanks so much, Emery
A quick look at the cube I don't see a single wrath spell in white which goes a long way to making more controlling decks in those colors work. Wrath of God and Day of Judgement i'd definitely slot in. You also don't have Banishing Light which while being yet another O-Ring is still a fantastic card. Supression bonds is just a worse Faith's Fetters. I also would look into getting a copy of Swords to Plowshares which is pretty inexpensive and one of the best removal spells printed.
There are a bunch of other things that come to mind but for starters that's where i'd start. Just how much of a budget do you have?
Thanks for the response! - We are both highschoolers, and only I have a job, so we can spend up to 10$ on a card max i would say. the cube We made is made from cards we had in binders or lying around, so it is by no means done. Thanks for the card ideas. white was the hardest for us to find noncreature spells that were good for. It might just be a lack of good ones that we owned, but it lead to some bad cards being put in, like zealous strike, and tandem tactics.
You may want to check this thread out for several budget cards. While these cards are all fairly inexpensive most people who frequent these boards would vouch for a good deal of them being staple cards or cards that have been in their cubes at one point. Also while you say White and red support aggro it looks like you are rather lacking in one drops in both colors for that many cubes supporting aggro tend to go a bit deep on them. Green feels very barren on 4 drop creatures which I'd recommend grabbing Surrak, The Huntcaller and Deadbridge Goliath to add a bit more beef to that slot instead of just having one 4 drop in green. Also are cards like Unburial Rites counted as a Orzhov card? If so you can change that under edit list finding the card and changing the color profile on the card. Also you may wish to balance out your multicolor section to even number of cards per guild and add more artifacts.
surrak and goliath are both cards i can pick up pretty easily! I will fix the rites to - there are a few guild cards I would like to add to balance the colors I just need to pick them up. I will check that thread right away, thanks for the help!
