I prefer medium-sized cubes for the diversity in archetypes you can effectively support. And with the advent of Glimpse and Impulse Drafting, you can use medium-sized cubes for 2-4 player events and everything will play just fine. If it's going to be heads-up every time, I would suggest a 360-450 card cube, but you can start with any cube as a skeleton, and trim down if you feel it's too big for 2-player events. Good luck with the project!
So I take a look at your articles+steve man and come up with this list. So I'll like to ask you for a favor when you got time.
How many of these cards would you definitely keep and think of it as uncuttable cube staple? I want to save some money because I'm building a new cube from a scratch.

I am Monkey D Luffy/OP_Forever. I currently lost access to my old account.
Are there any Horizon Canopy cycle that you would put over the top 3 cards of their colors?
I got 6 slots for multicolors in my cube so the nonland cards are competing with the lands. Shock/dual/fetch are staple but I'm not sure about Horizon Canopy set.
For what it's worth, Celestial Colonnade and Creeping Tar Pit place in my cube are all extremely solid as well.

There are certainly a couple of guilds where I could see their respective manland or horizon land being one of their 3 best cards. But I suppose it would be based on the context of the cube. If the gold card isn't broken or necessary to support a specific archetype, it could certainly be replaced with a powerful land.
I'm just getting around to updating my cube for the last few sets, I was wondering what you would play in the Naya/Jund/Bant slots if I am playing Noble/Ignoble Hierarch in Green and don't support Green Aggro for Nacatl?

On Mono Black in Commander:
Quote from BlackJack68 »
But whomever your commander is, Cabal Coffers is really in charge.
I'm not sure exactly. What cards are you considering for those slots, and why? Which of those cards would enrich the draft experience for your particular playgroup?
Hey, I want to ask about how your opinion change from the power ranking thread.
You list
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad higher than Lingering Souls
Pernicious Deed higher than both Maelstrom Pulse and Abrupt Decay
Ral Zarek higher than Izzet Charm
Geist higher than Celestial Collonade
Psychatog higher than Baleful Strix
Bloodbraid Elf higher than Dragonlord Atarka
Kitchen Finks higher than Dryad Millitant
back then. Is there a change in the cube environment that make you change your mind and remove those cards rather than the one below it? Because when I'm remaking my cube, what I found is that I really like Kitchen Finks more than Dryad Millitant lol.
Speed, and need. As the cube has evolved, things have become faster, and in a lot of those cases, the cheaper card has ultimately won out. And in other cases, like Geist, the need has dropped because of the number of printings in the equivalent monocolored slots. There are a lot of 3cc tempo creatures in both white and blue, so the need for Geist dropped. Other cards, like Ral and Finks, get a lot more valuable if you support their respective combo elements.
Thank you so much for writing these.
With each set release, the thing I am looking forward to most honestly is your (p)review article.

My 420 card Unpowered Vintage Cube:
- Cube Cobra (up-to-date)
- MTG Salvation (outdated; my posts seem to have been deleted at some point, unfortunately)
Can I ask your thoughts on the recent addition of green spells matter cards to your cube? Are they an addition to the Teething Wurmling style grower archetype? Is there a deck you see them shining in?
Hi wtwlf,
I was wondering whether it might be ok for me to ask you for feedback on my cube.
Specifically, whether you think there are certain cards that should be replaced by cards currently missing (e.g. better available removal or creature options), or whether any obvious cards supporting existing archetypes are missing.
I have been following your cube for close to 13 years now; I am still very frequently checking for any cube updates you may have implemented, and I am still very much looking forward to your cube set (p)reviews.
My cube is based on your cube, but has been at 420 cards for a while now.
We almost always do 4-player Burn-Two drafts (with 5x 21-card boosters per player, for a total of 35 picks).
The main differences compared to your cube are:
- No Power (and a few "Power-adjacent" cards)
- Less color fixing (~60 cards of our 120-card delta are fixing lands and artifacts; I enjoy that fixing needs to be picked very highly. There are a few more less powerful but more flexible fixing lands and artifacts in my cube.)
- No "Draw 7" Theme
- Less support for "Cheat a fatty into play" (but still available)
- Less focus on the artifact.dec (but still supported)
- Very limited "Land recursion" (mostly to make repeatable land destruction a bit harder)
- Avoidance of cards forcing players to track creature types
I would very much appreciate your feedback, if you have the chance to take a look; of course, I totally understand if this is too much hassle.
Thank you

Are there any particular cards or archetypes you would bring back if the opportunity presents itself? We track your cube very closely and like to keep a core of extra cards for changes.

You list
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad higher than Lingering Souls
Pernicious Deed higher than both Maelstrom Pulse and Abrupt Decay
Ral Zarek higher than Izzet Charm
Geist higher than Celestial Collonade
Psychatog higher than Baleful Strix
Bloodbraid Elf higher than Dragonlord Atarka
Kitchen Finks higher than Dryad Millitant
back then. Is there a change in the cube environment that make you change your mind and remove those cards rather than the one below it? Because when I'm remaking my cube, what I found is that I really like Kitchen Finks more than Dryad Millitant lol.

With each set release, the thing I am looking forward to most honestly is your (p)review article.

Thank you

Given your goals and design choices/restrictions, the only two cards I run that you don't that I'd really try to find room for are Nissa, Who Shakes the World and Atraxa, Grand Unifier.
