Hybrid Cards
A hybrid cards is counted as one half of a card for each of its colors. With two hybrid cards that share a color, a mono colored card of that color is cut and the hybrid is moved from the gold card section in to a hybrid section. For example:
Kitchen Finks and Dryad Militant have been moved to the Selesnya guild hybrid section. A white and a green card were cut to allow this to happen. That leaves their spots in the gold section open, so Qasali Pridemage and Knight of the Reliquary were added to the Selesnya gold section.
In situations where there aren't two hybrids of the same color, the hybrid is included in the gold section of its guild.

I'll strongly consider Plague Sliver, I'm usually not big on functional reprints unless they're in a different color, but i'm open minded.
With such strong cards, Royal Assassin does seem a little weak. I put it in for nostalgia's sake really. I could replace that. Not sure with what though.
Magus of the Scroll does seem really good. Not sure what to take out though.
Kird Ape and Loam Lion are awesome, not a big fan of Steppe Linx.

It's not that they're worse, it's that they're harder to cast. A mono-white card can go into more decks than a WG card can. Limit the number of cards that rely on multiple colors to be good, and you'll have a draft with more tools for the majority of players.

hammer IS better than ram gang if you take every factor into consideration. saying ram gang is better than hammer is like saying invoke the firemind is better than hammer. it can make more of an impact, but that doesn't mean it will. it's harder to cast and goes into much fewer decks. it's ultimately better for the cube to have hammer.

Okay, that all makes sense. I think a lot about largely aggressive or largely controlling cards in a vacuum, and hadn't looked at it that way before. The versatility of where a card can fit is just as important as it's power relative to the rest of the cube.
I would be very interested in how Manabarbs has performed for you, I wanted to add this card at some point, but did find something more "conventional" before I could really test it. Is this a sideboard only card, or can you play it in the main as well.
There are always places Manabarbs can fit in a MD. Aether Vial and Manabarbs. Manabarbs in a recursion deck that drops it's bombs at a low cost. Manabarbs in a life gain/protection deck, ie. Runed Halo. It really all depends how creative your play group is. Mine likes to take some really odd cards and make them do amazing things. It can lower the overall power level of the cube, but you get some fun and equally powerful combos in return. As a general rule though, Manabarbs is a SB card, but it's also a very important side SB card and gets picked up early.
Serendib Efreet is a great card for blue. You could safely cut Drift of Phantasms, Ninja of the Deep Hours, or Teferi for it. It's better than any of those.
I'd probably never cut Oblvion Stone or Zuran Orb. I consider them staples, especialy the Stone. I think your artifact section should be bigger (close to or equal in size to the five color sections), so I would just add the Ankh and Vise. If you are dead-set on cutting to fit those in, I'd cut the Time Vault/Voltaic Key combo (neither part is cubable by itself, so if you can't draft the combo you waste a pick). If you want to keep that, I'd cut Darksteel Ingot and Darksteel Collosus (you can run better Tinker targets: Sunderng Titan, Inkwell Leviathan, Sphinx of the Steel Wind, and the Masticore brothers).

agreed with these. orb and stone have been really solid here. i wasn't sure about orb but it's amazing. those cuts rant mentions are good. and eidolon suggests good artifact cuts.

I would like to keep the Time Vault (added to list) + Voltaic Key combo for now, however I may end up cutting them later because you're right, all by themselves they don't do much.
Along that line of thinking, the Natural Order + Progenitus combo can just as easily use Simic Sky Swallower or another green fatty. Progenitus will never be used without Natural Order, so it's dead weight most of the time, but even more so than Time Vault/Voltaic Key. I already dropped the Brine Elemental for the same reason. Drift of Phantasms was to appease a friend who likes walls, but I think it's just outclassed by Serendib Efreet and the rest of the cube.

The thing you have to remember about combo cards is that for every draft where someone does get the combo together, there will be another 25 when that doesn't happen. So both cards in the combo have to be useful on there own.
Isochron Scepter/Orim’s Chant – Isochron Scepter is narrow on it's own, and I don't Chant is worth a slot.
Counterbalance/Sensei’s Divining Top – Top should go into ever cube. Counterbalance thrives in a metagame that is made entierly of 1 and 2 drops like legacy. Cube's cmc varies too much. Plus counterbalance sucks on it's own.
Tinker/Darksteel Colossus – First DSC is an 11/11 not a 10/10. Second DSC costs too much. Tinker should go into your cube, but there are better tinker targets than DSC.
Time Vault/Voltaic Key – Both Voltaic Key and Time Vault are horrible on there own.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker/Intruder Alarm - Pestermite is better if you want to run this combo.
Hellkite Charger/Bear Umbra – Both cards don't seem horrible on there own. I could see including this one.
Black Lotus/Auriok Salvagers – Auriok Salvagers is incredibly narrow. Don't forget you need a third card to accutaly win the game.
Reveillark/Body Double/Mirror Entity – So what you need for this combo is 3 specific creatures and then a fourth of a reletivity narrow list of cards to finish them off? Seems hard to do. Body Double isn't worth the slot but the other two are.

Aside from completely bumming me out, that is all true. I want to tighten my cube up as much as I can, but I am aware and fully accepting that some combos will necessarily lower the over-all power-level of the cube. What I need to do is decide which combo pieces fail on their own and which are just not as good as some other card choices.
Pestermite works better than Intruder Alarm. Makes sense, good change. Orim's Chant isn't amazing all on it's own, but it's not a dead card either, so I'll keep that.
My play group specifically likes Time Vault, but I can drop Voltaic Key. Tezzeret works just as well.
I can also drop Colossus. I needed to cut an artifact anyway.
I'd be so bummed to lose counterbalance, but maybe you guys are right. I'll run it by my playgroup. Auriok Salvagers is narrow, but with how powerful some of these artifacts are, keeping them around after your opponent drops a card to get rid of it is worth the slot. Body Double isn't the best clone out there, but there should be no shortage of good creatures in the graveyard by turn 5, and it can work just as well in a recursion type deck. It's a long shot combo, but if you pull it off . . . amazing.
You should try stuff like Opposition, Crucible of Worlds, Life from the Loam, Fastbond, Abyssal Persecutor and Sarkhan the Mad (and probably more I'm forgetting). They are narrow cards but very powerful in the right deck. This way you can have cards in your cube that your group can build powerful interactions and synergies around instead of cards that are only good under very specific circumstances. Not so much straight up combo decks but Opposition.dek can play out with a very combo like feel. No matter which way you decide to go though, Counterbalance seems just terrible.
i agree with your general point, but honestly i've had a perfect record with DSC in tinker decks. he's too narrow for cube, and he's coming out for scars cards. but i think he probably is the best tinker target. he kills faster than inkwell, and survives wrath and deathtouch. he dies to a few spot removal spells, but i think he's just a tad above the other options specifically in a tinker deck. outside a tinker deck he's inferior to all other options.

Ya, you can reanimate the Leviathan too. And it's two turns faster on the hardcast, and 9 is a lot easier to reach with ramp than 11.

Was thinking about the new sword from Scars for my artifact. +2/+2, pro blue and green, a 2/2 token, and mill for 10 when it deals damage to an opponent. Not bad I'd say. What the consensus on this card?

I'll strongly consider Plague Sliver, I'm usually not big on functional reprints unless they're in a different color, but i'm open minded.
With such strong cards, Royal Assassin does seem a little weak. I put it in for nostalgia's sake really. I could replace that. Not sure with what though.
Magus of the Scroll does seem really good. Not sure what to take out though.
Kird Ape and Loam Lion are awesome, not a big fan of Steppe Linx.

The question then becomes is Stonecloaker better than Loxodon Hierarch, and is Volcanic Hammer better than Boggart Ram-Gang or Mana Barbs?
I personally feel Hierarch is better than Stonecloaker, and Ram-Gang is better than Hammer, but that doesn't mean there isn't something worse in red that can't be replaced with Hammer. As far an Manabarbs . . . my play group is a bunch of controlling motherf . . ., uh, mages, and Manabards is a perfect SB card for r/x aggro to break the control match-up.
If I'm wrong about Hierarch and Ram-Gang though, please tell me. To me they just seem better.

hammer IS better than ram gang if you take every factor into consideration. saying ram gang is better than hammer is like saying invoke the firemind is better than hammer. it can make more of an impact, but that doesn't mean it will. it's harder to cast and goes into much fewer decks. it's ultimately better for the cube to have hammer.
There are always places Manabarbs can fit in a MD. Aether Vial and Manabarbs. Manabarbs in a recursion deck that drops it's bombs at a low cost. Manabarbs in a life gain/protection deck, ie. Runed Halo. It really all depends how creative your play group is. Mine likes to take some really odd cards and make them do amazing things. It can lower the overall power level of the cube, but you get some fun and equally powerful combos in return. As a general rule though, Manabarbs is a SB card, but it's also a very important side SB card and gets picked up early.

I'd probably never cut Oblvion Stone or Zuran Orb. I consider them staples, especialy the Stone. I think your artifact section should be bigger (close to or equal in size to the five color sections), so I would just add the Ankh and Vise. If you are dead-set on cutting to fit those in, I'd cut the Time Vault/Voltaic Key combo (neither part is cubable by itself, so if you can't draft the combo you waste a pick). If you want to keep that, I'd cut Darksteel Ingot and Darksteel Collosus (you can run better Tinker targets: Sunderng Titan, Inkwell Leviathan, Sphinx of the Steel Wind, and the Masticore brothers).

agreed with these. orb and stone have been really solid here. i wasn't sure about orb but it's amazing. those cuts rant mentions are good. and eidolon suggests good artifact cuts.
Along that line of thinking, the Natural Order + Progenitus combo can just as easily use Simic Sky Swallower or another green fatty. Progenitus will never be used without Natural Order, so it's dead weight most of the time, but even more so than Time Vault/Voltaic Key. I already dropped the Brine Elemental for the same reason. Drift of Phantasms was to appease a friend who likes walls, but I think it's just outclassed by Serendib Efreet and the rest of the cube.

The thing you have to remember about combo cards is that for every draft where someone does get the combo together, there will be another 25 when that doesn't happen. So both cards in the combo have to be useful on there own.
Isochron Scepter/Orim’s Chant – Isochron Scepter is narrow on it's own, and I don't Chant is worth a slot.
Counterbalance/Sensei’s Divining Top – Top should go into ever cube. Counterbalance thrives in a metagame that is made entierly of 1 and 2 drops like legacy. Cube's cmc varies too much. Plus counterbalance sucks on it's own.
Tinker/Darksteel Colossus – First DSC is an 11/11 not a 10/10. Second DSC costs too much. Tinker should go into your cube, but there are better tinker targets than DSC.
Time Vault/Voltaic Key – Both Voltaic Key and Time Vault are horrible on there own.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker/Intruder Alarm - Pestermite is better if you want to run this combo.
Hellkite Charger/Bear Umbra – Both cards don't seem horrible on there own. I could see including this one.
Black Lotus/Auriok Salvagers – Auriok Salvagers is incredibly narrow. Don't forget you need a third card to accutaly win the game.
Reveillark/Body Double/Mirror Entity – So what you need for this combo is 3 specific creatures and then a fourth of a reletivity narrow list of cards to finish them off? Seems hard to do. Body Double isn't worth the slot but the other two are.

Pestermite works better than Intruder Alarm. Makes sense, good change.
Orim's Chant isn't amazing all on it's own, but it's not a dead card either, so I'll keep that.
My play group specifically likes Time Vault, but I can drop Voltaic Key. Tezzeret works just as well.
I can also drop Colossus. I needed to cut an artifact anyway.
I'd be so bummed to lose counterbalance, but maybe you guys are right. I'll run it by my playgroup.
Auriok Salvagers is narrow, but with how powerful some of these artifacts are, keeping them around after your opponent drops a card to get rid of it is worth the slot.
Body Double isn't the best clone out there, but there should be no shortage of good creatures in the graveyard by turn 5, and it can work just as well in a recursion type deck. It's a long shot combo, but if you pull it off . . . amazing.

i agree with your general point, but honestly i've had a perfect record with DSC in tinker decks. he's too narrow for cube, and he's coming out for scars cards. but i think he probably is the best tinker target. he kills faster than inkwell, and survives wrath and deathtouch. he dies to a few spot removal spells, but i think he's just a tad above the other options specifically in a tinker deck. outside a tinker deck he's inferior to all other options.
Is the 9 cmc blue Leviathan worth replacing the 11 cmc colossus?, or are they equally unusable without Tinker? Are there any blue or artifact staples I'm missing?

Ya, you can reanimate the Leviathan too. And it's two turns faster on the hardcast, and 9 is a lot easier to reach with ramp than 11.

Was thinking about the new sword from Scars for my artifact. +2/+2, pro blue and green, a 2/2 token, and mill for 10 when it deals damage to an opponent. Not bad I'd say. What the consensus on this card?
