Dredge, eh? I see you you put in Worm Harvest, Spawning and Grisly Salvage after Modern Masters. How has the archetype been holding up? I experimented a little bit with it myself, but never gone all-in. It does look like a really fun dimension to add to the cube..
i don't really cube very often at all, and there has been a whopping zero dredge decks come up so far.
"i felt stormfront pegasus was a better cut than blade of the sixth pride, but i am probably wrong about that"
I would definitely use a word stronger than probably. Flying is far far far more powerful than 1 power, especially on a 1 toughness guy.
--
Also, I don't know how powerful a fog is, even if you get one at the low-low cost of no card disadvantage.
yeah that is true. i shall errata the change.
a fog just gives the deck some time, especially against aggressive decks, which i feel like it'll want.
soo, my theros update will be slightly delayed while i agonise over cutting black aggro entirely. i have a few cards coming in that were oversights in other updates as well.
i feel like attacking with two creatures in boros isn't going to be hard to accomplish. it also has a higher potential upside, so i at least want to give it a shot.
rot farm skeleton is tempting to run over grisly salvage, but it's very expensive, and blocking is something the deck wants to do. not sure about that one. corpse connoisseur is a really cool card but also quite expensive; i was contemplating buried alive, but i feel like the body on connoisseur is extremely relevant. roar of the wurm seems good, but cutting a green fatty for it will be hard. victimize is pretty cool, but i'm not sure if i even want more reanimation; victimize and life // death (as a black card) would be at the top of my list in that regard.
also i was totally going to run pestilence, but completely forgot about it. i'm not sure how i feel about running it and crypt rats, AND sign in blood x3, and dakmor plague. i've tried to add some lifegain to offset the life loss that will inevitably happen, but tbh black doesn't have much lifegain worth cubing with.
I don't think being a 4/2 is better than being a 3/2 first strike, so you'd have to get the hoplite in as a 5/2 for me to think it even sniffs the halberdier's ranking. It attacks alone as a bear.
butcher ghoul ==> curse of shallow graves
moldervine cloak ==> curse of predation
butcher ghoul is a relatively easy cut, since it was mostly filler until i found something sweeter. moldervine cloak, i think, was the best cut for the other curse. i have commune and mulch, and golgari brownscale to dredge, so i don't completely cut off dredge without black. moldervine cloak and curse will probably play similar roles as well, so i'm ok with the change.
+archetype of aggression -deathbellow raider
+satyr nyx-smith -ronin houndmaster
+pheres-band raiders -cudgel troll
+fanatic of xenagos -gruul war chant
+golgari rot farm -golgari guildgate
basically cutting boring cards for more interesting ones even if the power level may be slightly lower. i'm also adding ramosian rally for tokens, since a free glorious anthem is quite good, and swapping the guildgate for a bounceland since it has synergy in golgari that for some reason escaped me until now.
cutting lands for lands and spells. i think mana fixing will be fine with vivids + 10 trilands + evolving wilds / terramorphic expanse / mirrodin's core / gemstone mine, and wojek halberdiers is just my worst boros card since there was no land in that guild.
my only other changes. i'm pretty sure shortcutter is my worst red 2-drop, and deftblade elite is bad enough that i prefer having another more expensive card.
so i guess i'll post my update for fate reforged here.
+abzan beastmaster
+destructor dragon
+temur sabertooth
+mardu woe-reaper
+marang river prowler
-moment's peace
-gnaw to the bone
-commune with the gods
-force spike
-mana tithe
cutting some dredge cards for actual good cards. my force spike / mana tithe cuts are mostly because i have several cards which i want to test in each colour, so that left them as the easiest cuts.
also, i had a five man cube tonight! i actually had 10 people, so we did two 5-man pods (of different cubes unfortunately). i managed to win the peasant draft, with a sweet r/g aggro deck. the other decks were naya tokens, abzan ramp, u/r pyromancer, and esper "dudes" as was described to me. my deck was pretty solid, managing to beat a loxodon warhammer out of the abzan deck.
i also got some feedback on some cards i wanted results from. beastbreaker of bala ged was awesome. it did a ton of work for me, and was very happy playing it. altac bloodseeker did smash for 8 after an arc trail 2-for-1 w/ rancor, but other than that did nothing. it's definitely explosive, but very inconsistent. pheres-band raiders was as awesome as i was hoping, as getting one attack in with it makes it snowball quite well without committing actual cards to the board.
i feel like being a 5/5 is big enough that you can safely attack on most boards. making a 3/3 a turn is also huge. green decks are also most likely to have the mana spare for the trigger. the card just has a lot going for it.
Actually, since a green deck that wants to get to 6+ has probably a higher amount of high drops than another deck, wouldn't it be fairer to say that a green deck wants to use that 2G more than another random deck at that stage of the game? It isn't like you expect to drop him on like your 8th land drop and those 3 lands are inconsequential; you're likely to drop him on your sixth and probably don't have a 7th land to play.
I'm just saying that you said green would be more likely to have the lands to spare, but if any color would be using those 3 lands I would expect green to want it more than others. I just thought there was something wrong with that part of your logic, not the card itself which I haven't levied a judgment on.
i haven't had enough play time with the inspired creatures to cut them. i want to give them a decent run because i like them in theory. bringing in empty the warrens also makes me more inclined to keep bushwhacker since they have really good synergy.
also i don't think forbid is a staple at all anymore. 3 mana counterspells are just so bad when we have such good 2 mana counters.
chronomaton is alright but i want to see how well the pest performs.
i decided on just adding more lands. that also meant adopting the hybrid system so i can keep in some sweet hybrid cards. so here's the update.

+ghitu encampment -reckless charge because i forgot to include the encampment last update.
Yay for Nucklavee. Feels like no one besides me has been running it.
Nothing else to really comment on. It is a shame to see the retracers go but it is understandable (particularly in the case of Worm Harvest). City of Brass is an excellent addition that must have been in the making for a while.

also feel free to recommend black control / dredge cards, i kinda got stuck on them.
rot farm skeleton is tempting to run over grisly salvage, but it's very expensive, and blocking is something the deck wants to do. not sure about that one. corpse connoisseur is a really cool card but also quite expensive; i was contemplating buried alive, but i feel like the body on connoisseur is extremely relevant. roar of the wurm seems good, but cutting a green fatty for it will be hard. victimize is pretty cool, but i'm not sure if i even want more reanimation; victimize and life // death (as a black card) would be at the top of my list in that regard.
