I'm currently working on adding another 45 cards to my cube, just as soon as I get the cards I need. I'd like to replace the pain lands with Ravnica duals and add in the Onslaught fetchlands (I only have two of them so far).
Small changes:
[CARD]
Thieving Magpie[/CARD] > Sower of Tempation
[CARD]
Life//Death[/CARD] > Putrid Leech (Placeholder for Spiritmonger until I get one)
I love Thieving Magpie. There may not be anything else to cut though.
After a 2nd glance, I like it a lot more than Ninja of the Deep Hours, Wake Thrasher and Vesuvan Shapeshifter. I'd cut one of those blue creatures well before the Magpie.
Agreed on Magpie vs Ninja. All Ninja is basically the following card:
Ninja 1U
Sorcery
Play Ninja only during combat.
As an additional cost to play Ninja, return and unblocked attacking creature you control to it's owner's hand. Ninja deals two damage to target opponent. Draw a card.
He's too fragile and easily blocked to net you very many cards. Magpie may not come down until later, but it's three toughness makes it a bit harder to kill and it's evasion helps make drawing cards off it a lot more likely. You should definitely cut the Ninja instead of the Magpie.
Just had my second draft with my cube. We had 7 players this time with Mono Blue playing White/Red control (plenty of burn and sweepers) in the finals.
Coming in third we had a R/G aggro/land destruction deck doing quite well against the field (winning a few matches and never going 0-2)
I realised I don't have enough green ramp in the cube. Here is the only green acceleration I'm running:
Llanowar Elves
Fyndhorn Elves
Birds of Paradise
Wall of Roots
Kodama's Reach
I'd like to fit a little bit more in there, particularly sorceries rather than creatures. What do people recommend? Here are some that come to mind:
That's what I thought at first, but now he's a real contender for one of the better blue creatures. That critter is really good.
It looked like a joke at first, but nobody's laughing anymore.
I felt he was a placeholder until I get something better but I love the little guy. Throwing some nasty equipment on him is a joke though, it's too good.
I've also picked up a Primal Command. Any suggestions as to what to replace in Green for it?
Similarly, I'd like to try out Voltaic Key, any comments on that card?
I'm still missing a Wooded Foothills. I'd like to put the original Fetches in when I get the last one. Do people agree with eidolon232's suggestion of cutting the pains for them? Maybe I should just increase the size of the cube...

I think so, yeah. They're much better lands, I'd say they're cube autoincludes for sure.
I am petitioning for the end of: the Mythic rarity, the Planeswalker card type, the post-8th edition card faces, the 2010 rule changes, colorless cards that aren't artifacts or lands, the Legendary supertype, the stack, auras, multicolor cards, artifact creatures, tokens, goblins, merfolk, elves, sorceries, instants, and permanents. Basically, I just want to play with purple contraptions.
Copy this sig to join the cause. Cuz, ya know, Wizards makes decisions based on sigs.
Hmm...Scko seems to fit all those lands in his 360 card cube. It took me a while to realise just now that he's using the pains instead of the Rav bouncelands... What to do...
most people will tell you Bounce >> Pain.
and I just noticed, you are from Wellington right?

I like all the changes, including the removal of pain lands. Genju of the Spires isn't as powerful as other cards that you could include but it's a great cube card nevertheless. For example, you're missing the cube favorite Keldon Vandals.
Bounce are better than pain, unless you host a lot of LD, then it's debatable.
I love the Pain Lands. You don't run aggro, Reaper, so I can see why you dislike them. They're great mana-fixers for aggressive decks, and provide multiple colors of mana on T1. They're solid consistent lands that are good in all phases of the game.
but would you rate them above the Karoos? or even the Ravnica Shocks?
He has 45 Land slots and 35 of those goes to Cycles of duals, 10 original, 10 fetches. 15 slots left, and that doesn't include the Ravnica shocks, I just don't think a land section this size can use pain lands.

Probably not. I rank them behind those lands, but my land section is big enough to run all of them.
In a 360 card cube, they probably don't make the cut.
Yes. Do that. Crystal Shard is way better than Portal, and as wtwlf pointed out a second Icy is better than a second Shard.
This is exactly why I can't bring myself to cut my cube down to 360. Too many good cards that I feel warrant inclusion.
