Sudden death gives a really unique effect and because of that it shouldn't be removed.
I personally think there are better options than Eyeblight's Ending though.
Really? I like both a lot. Sudden Death kills most creatures and let you beat the others in combat. Split second is great when dealing with creatures like Meloku or Tog. Eyeblight's Ending kills pretty much every non shroud creature in the cube. Have I think 3-4 elves and two changelings it can't hit. And hey, it pumps (or kills) Goyf.
I think both are solid, but I favor the Sudden Death over the Eyeblight's Ending.
Sudden Death is targeted removal that kills Morphling. Sweet. Eyeblight's Ending kills damn near every creature in the cube (except for a few elves and a few changelings). But, they're both targeted removal that can remove other black creatures.
I wouldn't cut either, but if I had to cut one, it'd be the Ending (b/c it can't kill elves OR Morphlings ;)).

Most non-changeling elves in the cube are weenies. There are quite a few fat spirits. So yeah it might technically have more targets but how often do you want to use a 3cc removal spell on Llanowar Elves?

Some of those utility elves are annoying but I see what you're saying. That Farhaven Elf isn't very scary. I did like Rend Flesh when I had it in my cube but I finally cut it after being pounded by Keiga with it sitting in my hand.
Don't use either the Eyeblight's Ending or the Rend Flesh in your cube... obviously you think they're bad in your cube, so - don't run 'em!
The Eyeblight's Ending is better because most of the elves you're targeting aren't worth wasting targeted removal anyways, whereas most of the spirits are. If the Ending is underpowered in your cube, pull it.
Note that many of the spirits wouldn't get killed by Eyeblight's Ending as well (Phantom Centaur, Karic Guide, Eternal Dragon...)
Ya, I agree with you 100%, they are both bad in your cube... add in something else... like an Oubliette! That card is super sweet... we ran it for a while and it got cut, but man, it's a fun card, and most players look at it and go: "what the hell?"
Sudden Death will be replaced by the next interesting black spell to come out, if it won't outdate another card. Killing morphling isn't nearly broad enough to keep it in. Killing Psychatog is something most black removals do anyway, and killing Siege - Gang Commander without getting a shock to your head isn't worth a card either.

Most black removal kills Psychatog? Can't -x/-x it (excluding card under discussion) and you can't Terror it. Edicts work as well as cards like Eyeblight's Ending and Rend Flesh. However a lot of point removal like Slaughter Pact or Snuff Out don't kill it.
I wouldn't cut Sudden Death. Besides the double B commitment, it is a very strong removal card that nullfies any tricks ranging from Giant Growth to counters and one of the most heavily played in my Cube.

Ok, a correction: most 3cc black removals. Really, killing Psychatog wasn't that problematic. Killing Morphling is obviously good, but isn't worth a slot.
Right. Smother kills half the creatures in the cube... making it good.

I was just comparing it to something like Terror which kills around 75% of the creatures at the same mana cost.
Smother kills creatures that terror cannot, just as the terror kills creatures the smother can't. I just use both.

And the fact is, it was relevant a few times.
Sudden Death does offer a unique effect, but more often than not the split second won't matter, and paying 1BB for -4/-4 is weak.

Ya, I don't use either, but I think you're right.
The Sudden Death is really good though, IMO.

The cool part about Oubliette is that the creature comes back into play TAPPED if the Oubliette is destroyed... making it awesome.
