It was great so far, A control deck's dream. Playing it on the third turn to destroy their whole tempo is hot. RFG and only nonartifact makes it relevant in most situations. One game it removed a bribedHellkite Overlord and Rakka Mar.
Don't have a Decree of Pain yet, must must get one.
But i think Mulitate deserves a spot in the cube as well, as one of the best black massremovals to date. Ashes to ashes is really good as well, but have the obvious problem of beeing a dead draw in many situations. This card really shines in aggro.
In my unexpirienced eyes, Mutilate seems underpowered. Mono-black decks are very rare in my cube, and two-colored decks will probably have two-swamps by the time it's cast, with all their nonbasics and lands from their second color.

This has been our experience too. It has always been a 4-drop Infest. I'd rather just use the Infest or something like Massacre. In our cube, all of those effects were eventually replaced with Decree of Pain and Bane of the Living. The Bane is one of my favorite creatures in the cube.
Guys... to clarify, Ashes to Ashes is a blowout. It's probably the second best black non-creature spell after Recurring Nightmare. I highly recommend this card.

My experience with mutilate is very good.
In either a heavy-black deck (or a deck with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth) it's most often a wrath.
In decks with 50/50 black and another color, i agree that it's not the best card turn 3-5. But on the other hand it will be a wrath lategame (that kills indestuctable).
I think mutilate deserves a spot in the cube - especially because it often will cycle to the mono/heavy black player (if there's any). I like this archetype and will gladly promote it through cards like mutilate.
I wouldn't use any of them personally. The Kagemaro is so narrow... if you draw him late game he's no longer an answer to the board. Mutilate is solid, but in most cases I'd rather have an Infest or a Massacre. The Reckless Spite is straight-up worse than the Ashes to Ashes, and those 2 cards are completely undraftable together. IMO, if you already have Damnation, Barter in Blood, Ashes to Ashes, Bane of the Living AND Decree of pain, you don't really need another one. I'd rather have targeted removal or another discard/reanimate spell for that last slot.
But if I had to add 1 of them, I'd use the Mutilate.
I've been happy with him so far. He doesn't make every deck but in control decks I usually generate enough card advantage that he's still a decent topdeck in the late game. My cube is around 520 cards and my black is pretty control oriented so that probably makes a difference.
I have witnessed some sick board control with Kagemaro and Volrath's Stronghold.
As a creature, Kagemaro is easily recurrable, that makes him fill a role that none of the other mass removals can. Also, i have seen Kagemaro been reanimated very often. You can't do that with Bane of the Living, the other sweeper thats also a creature.
I guess he means you won't be able to wrath again, that's actually a good point as we have a lot of reanimation in our cube. So it seems that other than the ones I play (

I don't play reckless spite, and I'm convinced now it shouldn't get in at all.
I'd still put in Kagemaro over one of the weaker spot removal spells. Smother only kills about half the creatures in the cube. I don't like Vendetta either.
Smother is actually very good. It only kills the early drops, but it doesn't allow regenerate and pump won't save them. From our experience it always has a target. It's rare when a deck play no creatures below 4cc.

Ya bro, the Decree of Pain is super sweet. One of my favorite B/X control cards.
And I don't run Ashes to Ashes... yet. That card looks really tempting though.

And no idea, don't have mutilate.

I think he meant reanimated with stuff like Makeshift Mannequin type effects.
- Damnation
- Bane of the Living
- Ashes to Ashes
- Barter in Blood
)Decree of Pain and Kagemaro, First to Suffer are the best?

That looks about right. Living Death kind of falls under the mass kill spell category. Sort of.
Ya OK... I see that. He gave the Volrath's Stronghold as the example and it didn't make any sense.
