Size = 540 ... 8-12 regular drafters
Section Sizes = 72 for Mono-Color, Lands, and Artifacts. 36 Multicolor. (Sections dividable by 9 for binder during updates)
Powered = Fully!
Proxies = None (unless testing spoiled card prior to release).
Un-Cards = No ... because of silver border.
Portal = 1 & 2 Yes, Three Kingdoms & Starter No (White Border)
Snow = No
Avg cmc = 3.02 (scewed slightly with our reanimate/tinker targets)
"Pimp" = Black border is all we want (and I'm finished ... 100%:D). No foreign cards (don't work for many in our group). No foils (they all can't be foil so ... none).
Black Based Reanimater. (With some support from Blue/Green and a little from the rest ... with emphisis on big fatties in Gold Section for targets)
Blue Based Artifacts. (lets Blue do something else ... that is still busted good ... good ol' blue)
Some Combo. (We run run some Combos and try to include usable tutors to help)
Since we fully draft our cube, mono-color (or mostly with a light splash) is fairly typical for our generic Aggro decks. The mana is much more reliable early (obv.) and this influences our shying away from Green aggressive 1 drops, and allowing the good CC costed beaters. They curve out at 4 almost without fail, so anything over 4 will need to be useful in a Control or a Midrange style we prefer.
Red Aggro is easy to assemble with all the burn available, which often allows 2 drafters.
Shalazar! Might I ask what happened to your old cube? I thought you regularly drafted it at full capacity. Not that I'm objecting to the new one - I'm also reducing my cube size, at a rate somewhat slower than yours, apparently!
I might comment a bit more later, but after skimming your list I'm seeing a lot of unique choices that you seem to have carried over from the old one. Could be interesting if you talked about some of the less played options you're currently using.
The old cube of 900 was for a theoretical draft group of 20. In reality, we only got 12-16 in the same room for drafts. So I cut cube to 720 at first. Over the past year, I've lost 2 regulars to college, 1 to a mission, and a brother that moved out of State. I also decided not to invite back another fairly regular drafter. That put numbers down to 9-13ish for drafts. I have to be careful I don't overinvite to achieve max of 12. So far that's worked. The choices we use are based on my Drafters playstyles. We regularly get 1-2 R/x aggro decks, 1 B/wg aggro, 1 Ramp, 1 Tinker/Reanimate, 1 Blink/Recursion, 1 WW, 1 U/x Aggro Control, 1-2 U/X Control, 1-2 Naya Beats, 0-1 Prison, 0-2 random ComboControl.
So some odd picks are purely because they excel in one of those archetypes. Feel free too inquire about any of the choices, and I will happily give reasons!
