For cubes supporting +1/+1 counters matter, there are not many great turn one grow creatures to get the counters ball rolling. I like Ambitious Augmenter better than Experiment One or Pelt Collector in this role. Triggering off any larger spell (instead of only creatures) will make this naturally grow with your curve, and there’s a real upside to the life insurance policy.
Looks like one of the better growing 1 drops. Unsure if I need or want one, but I imagine this having a death trigger takes it over the top when compared to the rest.
I do like using gut on it twice. Much prefer it to the other pelt collector type creatures. My drafters like some amount of G/X aggro so Hexdriknker +1-2 others is right for me.
I'm all about the scaling one drops. Looks excellent - growing related to whatever you're doing on curve and also replacing itself on death is a lot of value for one mana.
Having both a front half and a back half which grow effectively doubles the amount this creature scales compared to other Experiment One variants. And if your G section is geared more towards utility creatures / spells as opposed to statsticks, this will be easier to scale as well. Although casting one spell per turn is really not what you want do be doing in modern day Magic, the Augmenter scales above rate so quickly that you don't really need to go out of your way to build around it. And on top of being a solid card on its own, it's also a decent +1/+1 counter payoff thanks to its death trigger. There's a lot of competition among G 1-drops these days, but I think Ambitious Augmenter earns it place.
This is a decent scaling 1-drop. Midrange beatdown decks (particularly those with a +1/+1 counters theme or maybe a sacrifice theme) can take advantage of both the scaling nature of the card and the multiple bodies it can generate. Pretty decent value for a 1-mana critter. If you can scale this to a 3/3, getting a 3/3 and a 2/2 body for G is a pretty good deal.
