If your opponent is at 20, Unstoppable Slasher's first hit is for 11 damage. In the early game, I think opponents will chump with creature after creature to prevent Unstoppable Slasher's damage trigger, or they'll trade with a larger creature to delay the problem for 3 turns. This feels like a nightmare to play against, unless you have exile based removal.
I like that the recursion has no conditions, costs 0 mana, and that it returns directly to the battlefield. Some cubes may run Solemnity shennanigans, which would let you sacrifice Unstoppable Slasher for value an infinite number of times.
What a flavor win for this card name to go with this text box.
Solid midrange beater.
Will create a few nightmare scenarios in the early game.
a pesky recursive creature that can do a lot of damage on empty boards and trade vs bigger creatures and come back.
doubt it’ll be anything special, but likely good enough for a later pick.
as black is only an aggressive support color in cubes I play, I prefer my black 3 drops to be good on both defense and offense. Preferably playing friendly with reanimation/recurring nightmare.
This doesn’t quite fill that role, but it’s very close. It’s not good if the opponent is steam rolling and has removal, but few creature are.
I suspect this is too slow for modern cube - yeah, the first hit from 20 is 11 damage but how often is a 2/3 for 3 getting a hit in? Without ramp you're not attacking with this until turn 4. Yeah, it gets to recur if it gets bolted, but it's out of action for 3 turns, and if it's absolutely a problem for your opponent they can still 2-for-1 themselves to kill it.
Side note - because of the stuff sticking out of his chest and the high contrast of his head versus how his armor kind of blends into the background, every time I look at this art I see a head on a tiny mechanical spider body lmao.
Deathtouch and must-kill is a good combination of properties. Toss in some limited recursion and you end up with a pretty solid package. Unfortunately, it is way too easy to remove, and it'll very often be tempo positive as well. FWIW, it does one shot with Bloodletter of Aclazotz, and it's probably one of the more reliable methods to flip the new Grist. But as a standalone card, I think the ACS is just a bit too weak.
