My pick for "sleeper" of the set.
A draw engine stapled onto a solid body with a damage based death trigger.
A bit of a build around, but I believe it could fit naturally into multi color good stuff decks, mono red agro decks (24th playable) and maybe even some storm decks.
It's power will vary wildly based on the cards it's surrounded with, so it should impact draft decisions an interesting way.
Decided to test it. Confident in it's upside, not confident in it's average performance.
As a mono red card, it reminds me of Experimental Frenzy. That one was great for burn, but being too restrictive meant that it saw play nowhere else.
This card has a similar effect, except it's optional and has a 4/4 evasive body as a baseline, so much more broadly playable. Being more versatile means more decks will try it - hyper ramp might use it if it empties its hand too often, reanimator decks or other graveyard synergy decks might actually like the optional discard.
I also like that it can kill something small when it dies, or also send the last few critical points of damage at your opponent.
I'm definitely looking forward to playing around with this one...
Reminds me a bit of Avaricious Dragon. I think this card is better, but I'm hesitant to play 4cc red creatures that I need to untap with for value. It was on my radar, and just finished outside of my top 20 for this set. Keeping my eye on it though.
